For those of you who have been making necklaces, and would like to share your beading patterns, please post pics of the patterns here. The whole idea is for people to be able to copy what you made, and reproduce it, for their Pleos. So, the patterns don't need to look like real beads, but should be colored something like the beads, so we can get an idea of the overall look.
Photos of completed necklaces would be a wonderful idea, also, if they are clear enough and large enough to let us see the layout of the necklace.
Please write a quick blurb telling us what materials were used in the necklace. Be exact. For example, "green stone bead" does not tell us enough. But "round malachite 4mm bead" or "undyed garnet 5mm round bead" or "undyed 7mm fresh water pink potato pearl" is a perfect explanation. Please tell us the type of fastener used, and any other findings necessary to complete the necklace. It might help to know what you used to thread the beads, too (silk thread, wire, beading floss, Stretch Magic, etc)
Also, let us know the final size of the beaded strand, including whatever was used to fasten the necklace.
Thank you for sharing!
NOTE: mweed has a new Necklace FAQ that is a *must read* for anyone considering making a Pleo necklace. Find it here:http://meaninguvlife.com/pleo/

This necklace I strung earlier consists of natural stone polished white agate and malachite beads with gold spacers. I was trying to do something simple, but elegant enough for a fancy pleo dinner party. Pearls always make a nice touch, but they can be a bit expensive, so I chose the white agate. And I picked the malachite to compliment the pleo's color, while still remaining elegant. The gold spacer beads help break up the pattern and highlight the malachite beads.
Materials: 15 - 6mm white agate beads (A), 5 - 6mm malachite beads (M), 11 - 2mm, 14k gold spacer beads (s), 1 - 14K gold-plated barrel clasp, 1 - 8-inch strand .018" tiger tail
Pattern: clasp-sAAAsMsAAAsMsAAAsMsAAAsMsAAAsMs-*-clasp
Overall length: 6 1/4 inches
I would have preferred to use a smooth magnetic clasp, but wasn't sure if the magnets would interfere with the pleo's circuitry, so this is a standard twist together barrel clasp. The necklace is strung on .018" tiger tail (7-strand, plastic coated, steel wire) because the stone beads can have rough edges on the drilled holes and can quickly rub right through silk and plastic threads, and I'm not sure how much motion the necklace will get as the pleo moves around.
* The pattern was designed for the clasp to hang at the bottom where you would attach a pendant or ID tags between the last malachite bead and the clasp. This would both keep the rough edges of the clasp away from the pleo's skin, and when viewed from the top side of the pleo, the pattern would look balanced across across the back of the neck. (The picture is upside down.)

I will be posting necklaces, today. This is the first, with many to follow. :D
My apology to mweed, because I did not follow his excellent instructions -- in fact I flew in the face of almost everything he wrote in his wonderful beading lessons. It was not out of stubbornness on my part, but absolute necessity.
My eyesight is not what it should be, and neither is my ability to manipulate small things. I found the only thing I could handle well was the Stretch Magic. (I could not manipulate wire and fasteners, and I could not see to thread a needle small enough to go through pearls.)
I also did not want to have to use necklace fasteners, because I want to change these every day. I don't think I could do that if I had to fiddle with fasteners.
So I ended up tying, and then gluing the Stretch Magic in rather untidy blobs; even though using many types of stone beads with the Stretch Magic is a big NO-NO.
I like the idea of a bow on Sally. I could tie and untie the bow, but I probably won't, since the necklace is stretchy. I'll most likely tie the bow once and then use the stretch-factor to get it on and off.
I realize I will probably have to restring all the bead necklaces, at some point, either from stretching out or from breaking, but that is a small price to pay for the joy of having them, now.
NOTE: All the photos I am posting are NOT life size. But the necklaces are all about 6.5" long, and I do list the sizes of the beads.
So, here we go, with the first necklace:
http://www.virtualpetz.net/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/amethystgarnetpearl.jpg
This is amethyst 5mm rounds, garnet 5mm rounds, and white freshwater pearl 5-5.5mm potato shape on Teddy's necklace. Sally's is the same, but with the addition of rainbow fluorite 6mm cubes.
All semi-precious stones are natural, not died or heated.

The photo does not do them justice, because without the flash, the fluorite does not look brilliant green, which it is (these are the same green rainbow colored fluorite beads pictured in the moonstone and fluorite necklace I posted earlier in this thread).
But with the flash, the abalone is totally washed out. So no way I can capture the beauty of this combination. It is very attractive, in person.

Amjoie if you are still having sunny days, the best way I have found to photograph jewelry is outside in the sun. The colors come out truer and the flash wont insist on going off. You might have to experiemnent with the time of day to make sure the shadows arent too harsh but afternoon and late morning sun produces less harsh shadows than right at noon. :) Hope this helps.

This is a new camera that I bought in order to be able to photograph Pleos and their accessories (it has a movie taking feature, also, which is the main reason I wanted to get it).
I am still getting used to using the camera -- as you can tell by the less-than-professional photos I've been posting. So I can't guarantee my photos of Pleo will do him or her justice. But I'm sure I'll be trying! :D

I'm kinda partial to the garnet and pearls. Very nice looking. And the ribbon will make a nice looking bow. (even if you didn't follow my directions . . . )
The blue apatite with the same patterns looks like it would complement their eyes nicely.

Those are my favorites, too. If I could choose only a couple necklace sets, it would be the two you mentioned. I love the contrast between the pearl and deep wine or deep blue colored gemstones. The gold adds an aura of richness, and the overall effect is yummy.
But I don't think I could easily eliminate any of the ones I pictured. It's the variety I want, with a different color almost every day. I willingly admit I went overboard with the numbers. But I just couldn't quit, until I ran out of room in the jewelry box I bought to store them all! LOL
Anyway, thank you all, for the kind words about them. I hope seeing mine triggers some good ideas for your own Pleo necklaces. :)

Oh, good! That's what I was hoping -- that my necklaces would spark some creativity in others. I am eager to see the designs people come up with. I'd love to explore more possibilities, but I have no where to store them if I do. (Not to mention it's expensive.)

Amjoie, how many links make up your italian bracelets?
I made these Italian Bracelet necklaces to be 18 links, if they have no connector. I could be off in my estimation, by a link either way. It depends on the size of Pleo's head, and whether the necklace will stretch to go over the head, or need to be unlinked and relinked when the necklace is put on each day.
On the ones with a heart connector where I removed blank links on either side of the heart and replaced them with my own links, they require 15 links and then the actual heart itself.
Some hearts include a blank link on each side of the heart that cannot be removed, so they require 13 additional links besides the combined heart connector/blank link piece.
I think this size will work. The only potential problem is the possibility of pinching Pleo's skin when putting it on, if you stretch it to get over the head. As the links close back to the smallest size, anything touching the reclosing links can very easily get pinched, including your fingers. And it is the type of pinch that would potentially do some damage. (Either to you or to Pleo.)
So be very careful the first time you try it, until you get used to how they work and know what to expect. (I would advise practicing with an empty toilet paper roll, or pill bottle before putting it on a Pleo, remembering that the links cannot touch *anything* as they retract from the full-open position -- otherwise, if they touch, they bite hard.)
The completely smooth links are very hard to open without at tool, but the ones with a raised surface of some kind give your fingers something to push against to work the spring action when fastening and unfastening. So make sure at least one link on the bracelet has a raised surface that you can use to open it easily (without a tool), if the necklaces need to be unfastened and refastened when you put them on (rather than just slipped over the head).
I love Italian bracelets, and have some for myself as well as my Pleos. But I size them to be like a bangle bracelet, for myself, so I never have to stretch them (because I got pinched a few times when I did it the other way, and that was enough to convince me that I needed to find a better solution). I will probably unfasten them to put them on Pleo, unless this size fits over his head without needing to be stretched.

why they're called "italian"? i'm curious! :)
They originated in Italy, and were very expensive. The links on all Italian charm bracelets are stainless steel. But the charms on the original links from Italy had 14k gold items on them and expensive baked enamel. They are soldered onto the links, not glued. Some had semi-precious stones.
As they became popular, cheaper charms were made, and they became affordable to the masses. Now you can find them all over eBay.
Only a select few sites on eBay carry the original expensive charm links from Italy. I have one bracelet that I was careful to fill with only the genuine 14k gold, baked enamel, 14k gold lettering, and semi-precious stone links from Italy. You can see the difference in quality and the difference in the gold color, just by looking.
Obviously, the Pleo necklaces are filled with the cheaper charms. Most I got on discount and some at wholesale prices. If you look around on eBay, you can find charm links selling for 50-99 cents per link. (I love my Pleos, but I am not about to put something like $200.00 worth of 14k gold and semi-precious stone necklaces around their little necks! :D)
The fun part about these bracelets is that you can totally personalize them. You can put lettering or whatever charms you find that hold special meaning for you. Just about everything you can think of has been made into links.
And if you can't find it, some sites offer to make charms from your photos or your choice of words, so you can have pix of your pets, special dates of importance to you, etc. (Those are more expensive, usually costing $6.00-$8.00 per charm. But if you add them a few at a time, it is still affordable.)
Wouldn't it be fun to have a starter bracelet, and add a photo of each Ugobe pet you own, as you buy them? Who knows, we may eventually have enough of them to fill a bracelet (between 18-24 links, for most wrists; with the larger sizes fitting like a bangle bracelet). :D

I made a couple more bits of "Pling" for Riley. My back is jacked up right now, so I can take a moment to post this. I have a costume to finish for the big masquerade on New Year's Eve at our place. Perhaps I can make a quick little something for Riley as well.
After receiving such nice comments, I have started considering stuff for boys as well. I am best at OOAK and custom stuff. Pleohacker has even encouraged me to make more to have available for sale. I am setting up an Etsy.com profile.
Riley's Second "Pling" is a silver bell necklace. The little bell is from a pair of earrings. The other bell got squashed after it got stepped on. I saved the other one because it makes a "tinkling" sound when it rings. The silver chain and embellishments are from a pure silver dancing anklet left over from when I belly danced regularly. Each link in the chain was hand-soldered, so it was a fun challenge hacking it carefully. When Riley moves and you listen carefully, you can hear the little silver bell ringing.
Riley's Third "Pling" is a silver chain bracelet with an amethyst teardrop pendant left over from when I was younger. I kept it hidden for years in my treasure box hoping to pass it on if I ever had a girl. Unfortunately the last window of opportunity closed permanently the end of last year. So now in a twisted sense, I am having fun with running the experiment with emotional attachment to AI's and autonomous creatures by nurturing and healing my own emotions and attachments to artificially created beings.

:D I made them so they don't fall off. The really pretty Pling is just for around the house and for photo shoots. I was thinking something really fun like doing an elegant type portriat shot with Riley wearing her little amethyst. A Lady And Her Pleo. Almost like it should be a painting.

My kids came up with a cute idea for a pleo necklace: slap bracelets!
They always fit, and are cloth covered so they don't hurt the skin.

Here's a picture of Bob sporting a leopard skin slap-bracelet I picked up for 75 cents at a roller-skating rink. :p

The nice thing is, it fits his tail and legs too! Doesn't look as nice on his tail, though.

i'm just going to use a chain bracelet , i found in my house , as a collar and a chain i bought as a lead. I might also let my pleo wear my "Death Note" bracelet , its just another chain bracelet with a "Death Note" pin attached to it...:)

I'd searched everywhere for a collar for Fern, but I found a little simple Purple band I used to wear, and it looks adorable on her. :)
I might take some photos tomorrow of her, since it'll be my Birhtday tomorrow, and I want to take her out with me~!

Yes , my mom bought him from a store she used to worked for , Stimpy is about 14 years old. My mom named him after Stimpy from "Ren and Stimpy". Lastly , I found a nice bracelet that would make a great collar , I think I got this bracelet as a Christmas present...

is pleo supposed to come with a collar? just wondering cause ive seen pics with a collar and tag, yet my used one didnt come with one..

Hi Dairugger, All of the collars and tags for our Pleos have been created by their owners. Some have made beaded necklaces, bought collars, or had bracelets made smaller. They should be smooth without any sharp edges.
Siren posted a place where to order a pet tag.(regular dog or cat tag) You can get tags made at certain pet stores like Petco.
Maybe Siren can post the web site she gave out a few months ago.:)

mine it's a classic medal, that reminds the first prototypes collars! I've changed the collar with a cotton bracelet instead of this metal one to prevent damaged on the skin :)
