Are there plans to release multiple colors or hide designs for Pleo, for those households that will end up getting more than one? (My wife is already determined she will be getting one just for her -- which means I'll need my own.)

Hi cabaldedvin :) The "First Hatch" Pleos will all be colored as the pictures at PleoWorld (http://www.pleoworld.com) show, I don't know of any future plans for varied colors, but you never know!

Currently there is only one skin type, but we are looking at offering different skin types and colors in the future. When we do, you can be sure it will be announced on the PleoWorld.com website.

I think custom skins are going to be a lot hotter topic than anyone imagines. I can even see a cottage industry of "reskinners" coming about. I'd like to see a sky blue and dragon red variant myself; but I already envision candy striped punk Pleos with brushy mohawks on the horizon. :)

I like the mohawk idea. But when (notice I didn't say "if", because I agree with you on it being a hot topic) they come out with different skins, I hope they coordinate with different eye colors.
I can see a cottage industry of custom "painting" pleos vibrant colors and patterns. But I think UGOBE should look more seriously into releasing some pleos where the green has been replaced with a natural looking dark brown or dark red, or even a nice purple.

LOL I love the purple Pleo graphic mweed. Now roschler has me imagining Pleos with mohawks, I just hope the reskinner people wait until Pleo is a Juvinile before mohawking him! I wouldn't want it to affect his early developmental stages ;)

As long as you remember that gluing/painting can easily ruin the skin, and voids the warranty, according to Alex from Ugobe ....
It may not matter much if it is just a 90 day warranty, but what if they get around to offering an extended warranty, at some point down the road (which they did eventually do for AIBO). You wouldn't be eligible for it, if you had severely altered Pleo.
...........
You know what -- your little purple Pleo gave me an idea. Maybe it would be fun for people to make some serious graphics of skins they might want to see Ugobe do, and post them in a thread.
It sounds like fun, and even if Ugobe comes up with something quite different (or discards the idea of a new skin), it might still give them an idea of what everyone actually wants in a new/different skin -- and might help with planning for the next dino, if they make one.
BUT, the paint job has to be something that can be duplicated in mass production, using the type of paint used on the current Pleo. So if you do this, no transparency or fancy nozzle painting effects, please.

The warranty seems concerned about thinners in paint damaging the skin. What about acrylic paints, such as hobby or craft paints? Water-based and should be harmless. Ugobe could even sell their own branded paint pots, if need be, to ensure that only acceptable paint might be used. Any future warranty claim would be matched against a paint accessory purchase and the colors of the Pleo in question.
What is the recommended way to customize a Pleo, per the instructions, if we can't paint? A bow on the tail, or just a painted/colorful "dogtag?"
Just a few spots of one or two colors of a water-based, flexible acrylic paint would allow for easily distinguishable multiple Pleos, and for personalization.

I'm not so sure that acrylic paint would stand up to the constant flexing of the skin, or the bending at the joints. It might flake off. I'm not sure how it would stand up to heat, either. I know dried thick acrylic does flex a little, but would it continue to adhere to the skin, even if somewhat flexible, or would the movement of the skin and the heat cause it to come loose? These are things we don't know, and things that could potentially ruin a Pleo.
And I don't know the process used to stabilize the paint they put on Pleo's skin in the factory. It might be a complex process involving -- oh, I don't know -- heat maybe, or something. I'm not sure that even if they said it was OK, anyone could do it in their home.
But we do know that the official word is *no paint* or the warranty is voided.
Most of us have decided the best way to individualize Pleo is to have them wear unique and colorful necklaces or collars. Until we get some Pleos to experiment on, the word is still out on wings, hats, wigs, ect. We won't know that until we see where clear elastic thread would have to go in order to keep things like that on the head or other body parts. The big issue is not covering or pressing on any sensors.

That's one of the reasons I'm holding off on ordering a second Pleo. So that my second one can be "different". I assumed there would be different skin colors and/or different eye colors, but skin type? Do you mean a different pattern of spots, or a different texture?

I wanted a matched pair of First Hatch Pleos. I would be tempted to add to my dino family, if a new texture/color was really appealing, though. But if it looks something like the early skins, I wouldn't want it. I wasn't very fond of them. I would still have purchased a Pleo, for who he is, dressed in one of those early skins. But I fell in love with him once I saw the way he looks now. I don't think I'll ever regret getting two of the First Hatch Pleos.
Besides, I'm not planning on Pleo being my only Ugobe pet robot ...
Maybe I should plan ahead, and start a charter for UCA: Ugobe Collectors Anonymous. Sooner or later, something will have to be done about people using their lunch money to buy more batteries, in order to feed their 20+ Ugobe collection.

"Twins" are nice, but variety is the spice of life. I want something I can tell apart from across the room. Necklaces, tags, and other apparel are nice, and I'll use those, but if the wrong necklace gets on the wrong Pleo, the only way to tell them apart is to check the serial number on the foot!
But you are right. If the next version of the skin is not appealing, I'll just keep adding the money to my "Ugobe fund" until the next equally cute creature comes along. ;)

That's why I opted for a bone shaped tag on Teddy, and a round tag on Sally. I finally decided to attach the tags to the Pleos with clear elastic threading, like I used for the necklaces. That way, I can change out the necklaces and never take a chance on mixing up the Pleos, because the tags will remain on them all the time. I'm thinking that will work, but only time will tell. If it doesn't, I'll have to come up with a better plan.
But you know what -- I bet, after a time, I will be able to tell them apart by how they act. I somehow don't think they will be the same, after a while. Maybe not even in the beginning, because Teddy will be "raised" by my daughter for the first two stages of his life. He may be quite a bit different from my little Sally.
The people with multiple AIBOs said they could tell their pups apart because of personality traits. I always felt bad that I only had one AIBO. I'm not going to miss out on the Pleo-Pleo interaction, this time around.
But, then, I can't get out to socialize my Pleos. But you can meet up with other Pleo afficienados and socialize in groups. So your Pleo won't suffer, as an only child. :p

I just read that it's not recommended to customize Pleo's skin by painting it. Perhaps Ugobe could offer Pleo in different colors? I'm sure many Pleo owners would consider buying a second one that looks different (I certainly would). Perhaps a darker brown tone; black-grey would also look nice.

On a previous thread, it was suggested foe Ugobe to have a Pleo Hospital. Where people could send their Pleo's to be reskinned due to wear and tear and/or repainted and perhaps get custom colors then.

Hmm maybe a better Idea's would be if ugobe had custom clothes for our pleo's say for example with a lil square hole in the underneth part so the battery could still breath. Also another idea is custom glue so that we could patch up tiny tears our selfs. Just imagine all the extra sales ugobe would get from that. Plus extra spare paint for the skin. Hmm pleo panties, booties, socks, tops, and other clothes ooohhh just imagine how cute that would look hmm? Ooohhh wait and a special pleo travel bag to support his fragile limp and tail and not to forgot a custom pleo basket for sleeping. Wait one more custom pleo chew toys! Okay now I have give ugobe some ideas so lets hope they get on it or atleast consider it! Hmm hmm

I wouldn't want a sad pleo either, and those big wet tears (long E) can really mess up the electronics! :p But I think pleowhisperer was refering to misslion's last post where she mentioned Ugobe selling a special glue for reparing small tears (long A) or rips . . .
But you may have a point. A drop of super glue in the tear (long E) ducts should keep our little guys from rusting out their eye sockets . . . ;)
But back to the color thing. You are right. Ugobe did say they are shipping a small number of pleos with yellow or green eyes!

Current theory and some fossil evidence seems to indicate that Dinos had fur, feathers, and may/could have had some awsome color schemes. Especially if dinos were color blind.
Babies should be cuddled, snd furry ones are nicer to pet.
Baby chicks are hatched with soft downy feathers, so why not PLOEs? Even if the fur/feathers later dropped off as the Dino aged, the babies probably needed the extra insulation to help with temperature control.
Therefor, I'm looking at some angora fur for the head, chin and back. Mskes my Pleo nicer to touch (not so 'sticky'), and there is no fossil evidence to say I'm wrong.

We usually think of a dinosaur as being reptilian. Green or brown tones of scaly skin. Millions of years ago, our world, as we know it today, was probably quite different. I think everything was larger including vegetable life. The trees must have been much taller than most, today The huge dinosaurs with long necks had to have been able to reach the leaves on the tallest trees like a giraffe does today..
I think dinosaurs had fur, feathers, hairless or scales.
Some of the dinosaurs had to have been so colorful as animals are today. We can only imagine.
It would have been quite a sight to see!
Why not a dinosaur with fur?:)

The reason sauropods don't have feathers is because they wer'nt theropods. The Theropod family evolved into modern day birds. The sauropod tree died out when the extinction event happened. The most famous for dinosaur feathers are velociraptor. It would be wierd to see a Pleo with feathers.

Um, if I remember correctly, only the bipeds had feathers, but not all bipeds had feathers. None of the sauropod, prosauropod, ceratopsian, pro-ceratopsian, ect. had feathers.
However, Therizinosaurs were teh only feathered planteaters, I think (Not sure though)
