So I saw the cover and had to pop it off... You can see where the old charge port was located.

I don't know the part number, but if you can find a matching connector, please post info.
It is a direct connection to the debug terminal. Very important if you want to debug Pleo programs and/or see how the Pleo is reacting to the environment at a computer level.
You can get similar results using the USB cable.

Using the serial port makes it much easier to hook up a radio transceiver (untethered)
You can use an XBee radio module directly http://www.aibohack.com/pleo/xbee_pleo.jpg (no extra chips, powered by the Pleo)
If you can't find the connector, as a last resort, you can solder to the pins (tricky and dangerous). I'd wait until UGOBE or some forum member posts info on where to get the connector.

I know I have seen that exact connector I just forget what manufacturer makes it. Hirose maby? I kinda looks like the DF13 series. It's either 1.27mm or 2mm pitch. I don't have my calipers handy just now.

I finally just thought of a way to google it, :)
went to deep searching of a part that i knew had something similar... video-card CPU-fans have a 3-pin version, Cold Cathode-Ray's have a similar 5-pin version, and a number of other micro-electronics board (about 4+ places in a laptop / ps3). then want on a schema-hunt, lol.

i believe the closest match would be KHS-07, 2mm Nylon Housing, 7-pin.. based on the image posted here.. (messureing the port on the actual Pleo would either rule that out or in)

I also found similar types:
JHS-7 0.098"(2.50mm)CENTER CRIMP 7 PIN HOUSING BG-50 5.14
KHS-7 0.079" (2.0mm) CENTER CRIMP 7pin HOUSING BG-50 3.96

If noone else has a way to test this, i'll have my Pleo in like 2 days to cross-check it.

I'm pretty sure (based on my calipers) that this is a 1.2mm spacing on the pins (not 2.0). Try:

Digi-key# H2184-ND (HIrose #DF13-7S-1.25C).

$0.30 each (plus s/h).

Nice.. the pics seem to match up. i placed an order.. due to being so cheap, i decided paying 45$ for overnight was a bit excessive (total parts was about 5$ lol).

i user your info to summon up some more info...
http://www.ambientdevices.com/developer/DIYSerialDeveloperBoard.html
amazingly funny how the "Orb" connector looks like it might have been the same as an older prototype of Pleo, lol. Anyways, notice toward the bottom, they quote that the criper for the connector is almost a grand.

the parts i ordered were:
10x H4BBG-10112-W8-ND (pre-crimped contacts + wires)
1x H2184-ND (the female connector)

So i'll let you guys know how it works out in 4-5 days.

As a followup, this part was close, but no cigar.

The contacts in the port are flattened (the long-way going left-right when oriented to the picture below), the connector purchased were square/round type.
Everything aligned properly, but the contacts were just the wrong shape.

fyi, (not that it's really a big issue..) notice the 2 notchings in the pic, on the left side of the housing. The purchased connector had them on the very ends of each side. in the pic, they are between the first/last pair of pins on either side.

Bummer but thanks for the effort.
FWIW here's a closeup of the connector we need, with the notches. Still looking for a confirmed part number.

I think that means we need the AMP blade-pin version. I'll pull the part numbers next chance I get.

PleoPet: =) guess i should have asked you for a pic before I went shopping.

Sandro: I'll be eagerly awaiting your findings., soon as you post a partnum candidate, i'll put an order to try it out. -- i ended up getting the DigiKey catalog, but, .. 4000+ pages are a lot to hunt in. haven't found it (Yet).

If i do end up needing to purchase them in batches., I'll probably end up doing as PleoPet suggested in one of the other postings., and sending them to anyone who asks.

Based on my Jameco catalog (I tossed my paper Digikey catalog a while back, and I don't feel like messing with the online one at the moment). You need cross-reference part #:

51021-0700.

female pins:

50079-8100 (26-28 AWG) or
50058-8100 (28-32 AWG)

Digi-key's page shows a picture:

http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/355492-conn-housing-7pos-1-25mm-51021-0700.html

Molex has 3d-models of the connector, but I don't think I have a CAD program that will load them...
Google will return lots of product spec pages and data sheets.

you are the man :) (or woman.. lol)

After seeing the "Molex" name, that was the first hint. in the other 5-pin versions i've seen in other products, there were molex-brand.
Secondly, http://www.molex.com/pdm_docs/sd/510210700_sd.pdf -- in the diagram, even the "Locking Window" tabs are in the proper places.
3rd, i can't believe this was on page 88, i must have passed right by it, but it's there.. and the Header looks identical.

Will let you know results in a few days.

I'm happy to announce, this connector fits perfectly. so we now have a confirmed part number :D

Unfortunately, digi-key didn't have pre-crimped leads, so i purchased the contact and tried it myself (not a pretty picture). i'll have to keep looking for some pre-crimped ones, unless someone on here happens to have a crimping tool that is small enough for these connectors.

This is great! Thank you guys so much for figuring this out.

I will be purchasing a few of the "CONN HOUSING 7POS 1.25MM - 51021-0700" connectors and the "50079-8100 (26-28 AWG)/50058-8100 (28-32 AWG)" pins you guys suggested.

Shagz - any additional tips about crimping them from your experience? Thanks!

unfortunately, no tips on crimping.
there exists a crimp-tool for it, but it's extremely expensive.
I had tried many many things, including teeth (lol), tweezers, regular universal crimpers, etc.. no luck, they still kept falling out.

i was actually hoping one of the electronic genious' on here would have that crimper, and volunteer to sell some pre-crimped versions, now that the part nums are up.

Well, i broke down and purchased the cripper last night.
interestingly enough, it's schedualed to be delivered today, evidently mouser.com is in Fort Worth, Texas (1.5hrs away from me in Austin) so ground-delivery = overnight, lol

I suppose i could. i'm actually experimenting with a number of things right now. last night i was able to bluetooth my way to pleo's serial with a quick-and-dirty console i threw together. .. i wanted to get a feel of what kind of output i should expect to see from the serial port.
it's going to be a while before i have some kind of usefull parser written up that can handle the events that pleo throws. i still have no idea what most of the number in those events (from the monitor) actually mean.
sending command TO the lil guy is easy enough, but figuring out what pleo is saying back, is my main worry.

PS: If there are any Ugobe-Devs reading this that wanna get in touch and talk about an idea i have to make the output a lil more efficient for devs, plz PM me.. i've been Designing Packets for network apps and MMOs for quite a while, and may have some usefull ideas for you.
