Yeah, I agree. I was alittle upset when it was all this christmas stuff. I felt very insulted. It isnt right. They should have progammed some Hannukah tunes. Now I know that Holiday Ple:mad:o= Christmas Pleo. It isnt right.

I never understood why songs like Jingle Bells could only be accepted and loved by those who celebrate Christmas. In all truth, it was written for THANKSGIVING. So why can't Christians, Jewish, Atheists and everyone in between just be happy with Jingle Bells?

Oh please, its a christmas song. You dont hear anyone singing "Jingle bells over their menorahs

I have no problem mind you having Pleos with Hanukkah songs. All I was doing was stating a fact, that Jingle Bells was originally a Thanksgiving song that got held over into December. I just find Jingle Bells to be a universal holiday song. The only reason you don't hear them sing it is the stereotype that its specifically a Christmas song. It is a winter song, about riding on a sleigh through the snow. When the song was written EVERYONE rode sleighs through the snow. Bells were placed on the horses, not only because of the sweet sound it produced, but also the sound warned any others on the pathways that a sleigh was coming through to keep accidents from happening. During the summer months, bells weren't used so much because the wheels of the cart/wagon the horses would pull creaked loud enough to warn others.

There is no need to get upset or defensive. Jingle Bells is a holiday song. It in no way represents Christmas only and fully. That is why it IS a Holiday Pleo and not a Christmas Pleo. If they had "Away in a Manager" or "Little Drummer Boy", I would completely understand how you feel. But Jingle Bells is technically a holiday season song. Not specifically Christmas and thus not specifically Christian. That is why public schools often choose it. So it doesn't offend people. But these days, apparently everything offends people even when the intention wasn't there. I am not Christian, but I'm not asking Ugobe to have "Santa Claus is Pagan Too." because I want to feel included. Jingle Bells makes me feel included, its a universal holiday song. I don't feel insulted at all. If they make Pleo do a Hannakah song, then they'll have to make them do REAL Christmas songs, as well as Kwanzaa, Yule and who knows what else. I rather Ugobe work on getting those extra batteries and new OS updates out rather than fiddle with pleasing every religious Pleo owner in the world right now by having songs for each religion.

I love and respect all holidays. One of my hobbies is researching holidays and their histories. And even though I haven't see Holiday Mode yet, I want to thank Ugobe for doing it. I can't wait to see it in action!

ETA: Poor Ugobe. They rush out the holiday mode to please their customers and get it thrown in their face like this. I am happy with it and I haven't even seen it.

Oh common, give me a break... or should we also complain, that Pleo isnt wandering around a black cuboid, when we simulate mecca in our living room?

I watched the spoilers on Youtube, already expecting Christmas carols, and got them. The Holiday Download, to me, is a "gimme" for little children who find Pleo under their tree. Most of the Pleo singing is not charming to a 50-something woman. The musical background detracts and the dinosaur singing is creepy.

It's just my opinion, being a mature owner, that some new Pleo behavior more in keeping with the illusion of a living young dinosaur would be a better download from UGOBE. This dino singing to musical accompianment is disappointing. That the songs seemed all Christmas tunes is more disappointing, since every Pleo owner is not the same denomination.

If songs were mandatory, how much better to have the poor robotic puppet grunt and sway to the music of "How Much is that Pleo in the Window," "Hound Dog Pleo," or "The Fred Flinstone Theme."

Again, these are just my opinions.

So apparently we are telling everyone what the December 15th suprise was. I haven't run it in Pleo yet and I would like it to be a surprise.....

I know, the thread should have been titled with Spoilers or added to the already existed Spoiler thread.

In all truth, I would have rather something useful over the gimmick for the first download, but it is what it is. I think its going to be cute, albeit temporarily cheapen it to the likes of the singing Santa on a motorcycle and singing fish on a board. But I do agree, its just a gimmick for the kiddies, but then Pleo is a robotic toy, so I can see why Ugobe did it. I can't wait for the next update with something useful though. :)

I feel bad for starting this post now. For me this was only a suggestion for my nieces and nephews when i go up north later this month. I didn't expect pleo to grant my request but maybe as a suggestion for next year. Regardless i certainly didn't want to spoil the download for anyone else so i tried to keep my post only to my suggestion. There are many other ways to enjoy the pleo with or without specific holiday music. Still looking forward to future downloads!!

Well given that most pleos were sent out around the 15th (when the download was available) Hannukah was already over (It started on the 4th). I am a Christian, but not a fan (by far) of Christmas music. However I did think that it was cute. And it's right before the Christmas season. Kwanzaa hasn't quite started yet (the 26th) but I can't say that I don't know any Kwanzaa songs (if you do a google search, they seem to all be to the tune of other songs, so how would you be able to tell by grunts and such). All the ones that were on there were well known songs.

This post reminds me of those holiday musicals in school where each year seemed to get longer because you had to include every religion so that people weren't offended. Though I do love driedle driedle driedle so that would be quite amusing. We'll have to see next year. But I agree with Siren, I'd rather have new batteries, or maybe a decent carrying case.

That's one of the cool things about owning a programmable robot. You will be able to record your own songs, and edit motions and make up your own little entertainment personalities (too late for this year for Hanukkah specifics, but there will be other opportunities)
So keep thinking about what you want, and start recording those songs. You can make Pleo sing with a human voice, but many may think that's out of character.
(SPOILER COMMENT)
IMHO: The Surprise XMas song personality does a great job of turning classic (Christian and generic) holiday songs into something more fitting for Pleo (using a gruff dinosaur-like singing voice). Your opinion may vary. For talented singers/voice-actors, that's something worth emulating if you are capable.

I will say I loved when she would just dance like crazy to Jingle bells!

Rebecca, I understand you weren't trying to make a fuss. I can tell from how you posted, my comments were directed at Falseprophet, not you. Sorry for the error in clarification.

I like what mary joe said, although I still think its cute to see him singing. I dont know, I mean there are so many things that have evolved. When someone hears jingle bells, they think of christmas. technicaly, noone really expects them to cater to every religion, but then again, who cares? Its a baby dinosaur! And I dont know why I get so defensive about my jewish heritage. I'm an agnostic, so it should'nt matter. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

Agreed.....howabout I was offended over someone complaining Pleo needed Jewish songs to dance to?
If you don't like a download, don't use it. It's that simple. And I certainly don't have anything against Jews, my mom is one.
But I thought that was a little out of place.

OK, let's all take a deep breath, relax and remember that this is the "Suggestions" forum. :D

Someone made a simple request that possibly UGOBE include some different songs, for different faiths in the future.

UGOBE is thrilled to get all of your suggestions for future behaviors and upgrades to Pleo and takes all of them into consideration.

I'm sure that nobody involved at UGOBE or on this forum intentionally meant to offend or upset anyone else.

And the reality of it is that to an increasing number of people Christmas has nothing to do with religion.

I really dont feel like throwing my hat into the ring... but CHRIST-MASI think its pretty explicit. Christ was supposedly born on Christmas. Now I've got a big suggestion. Please Ugobe, end this thread!

Already saw what Pleo does with the Holiday Download. I was tempted to watch it, since ALOT of spoilers posted many vids of their Pleo's Dance and singing...WAAAHHH! Wanted it to be a secret, but NOOOOOO, they just had to post vids. I'll get them, I'm telling yas, I'll get them...

Hey Geert,

Yes you can... I have a mac .. I downloaded it to my desktop from the website...for some reason, it added a .txt onto the end of the file name. Just rename the file pleo.urf, that will do the trick, then place that file on your SD card insert it, and whamo.. Christmas Pleo...:) Hope that helps....

Oh, I forgot to mention when you go to the Pleo site and register, you then can click on download file... this will take you to the screen with the pleo wearing the santa hat..under him is a bar saying download holiday pleo. Right click and select download linked file... then if the file downloads to your desktop with the .txt edition added to the file ending, just rename the file as I stated above...:)

As an atheist I enjoyed Pleo's holiday mod :) I don't really see the song Jingle Bells as attached to any religion or certain festivities. It's just seasonal music for me.
