Hopefully Pleo will eat your mate so you won't have any more that that kind of nonsense.

In this situation, there may be a chance you could reboot Pleo. Firmly grip Pleo by the tail, lift him up into the air, and use him to strike your mate in the head. This may or may not reboot Pleo, but either way, you should feel better afterwards*
*Disclaimer: I in not way seriously recommend you use Pleo to hit your mate. It may hurt Pleo. In exchange, a frying pan will do just the trick

LOL
I think the reboot function may be available in future models, it is planned, just not right now.

I'd hope when the program kit is released there would be a 'basic stock hatch' reset mode/usb cable

well i've wacked my mate on the head with a frying pan, then turned my pleo back on and it's still as it was when i got it which is a bit of a shame, but i do feel better lol.

Last night my Pleo just froze solid, then I heard the click from the speakers, and the sound it makes at bootup. Sounds like it reset itself. Is this to be expected?

Maybe the battery overheated and Pleo shut down?

No it'd had only been on for quarter of an hour, the battery is barely warm to the touch at that point.

I don't know how I did it, I didn't even want to do it, but my pleo has reset to hatchling.
Emm, he wont get up right now and is acting like he did as a hacling and this is my 9th/10th charge.
Any idea people?

There is no way to reset Pleo back to an infant???? This is insane. My one child that missed the hatching is very unhappy. I thought we could reset him back...
My Pleo reset too, I turned him on last week after putting his charged battery back and he re-hatched. I lost count of all the charges but I know it was way more than 10.

I think that happened to mine too. I didn't know what it was until I read this post. At the time I thought the OS crashed or the battery wasn't charging properly.

Okay... I've had my little baby dino since Christmas. He's gone through countless charge cycles, and I've taken good care of him. I'm kind of paranoid about how people treat him--always hovering close by when someone's petting him. :p
Last night I turned him on like normal. Instead of making his typical "Aough?" boot-up noise, he curls into his sleeping position and just lies there. I pet him. He makes baby whimper-noises.
At this point, the panic is beginning to set in. I pet him more, hoping beyond measure that he's just tired, but no luck: he keeps going through his hatchling routine. And his battery was fairly fresh--maybe halfway depleted.
He stood up shakily but didn't take steps, and this was when I was absolutely certain that he had reset. My dino isn't my dino anymore, or at least that's what I'm afraid of.
All I really want at this point is an explanation. What quirk in his OS made this happen? Is this a known issue? What can I do to prevent this in the future?
Thank you in advance! :)

What is the latest news on this situation! Somebody from Ugobe please update this Thread! My Pleo is on the way and I want to know what I can do to prevent this from happening! I'm going to make my Pleo Hatching an event for my kids!
I heard from Ugobe a few days ago--didn't have time to reply on this thread then, so I will now.
Ugobe customer service is wonderful. I must stress this point before I say anything else. Very fast and very friendly! :D
They said, in short, that they've never seen my problem before (I knew my dino was special! :p) and that I should just keep an eye on him and let them know if it happens again.
Thanks, Ugobe!
--Rosy
Not sure if this is the place to post this, but I think so--it has to do with Pleo's OS, I think.
For the second time, my Pleo reset himself completely. :( It's okay, I understand it's a new product and there's bugs to work out. Trust me, I'm a Pleo rah-rah girl. I love my baby dino and think everyone should play with one. :D But I'm kind of upset--not with Ugobe, but because I'm now faced with the potential loss of my dino.
The first time it happened, I'm certain it was a reversion to his baby stage. As soon as I turned him on, he curled up and started going through his "hatching" routine. I think he's done it again.
This morning he did it again... he's currently sleeping in my lap as I type. I don't want to send him back and get a replacement. He's my... he's my pet. The attachment is very strong and I don't want to give him up.
But at the same time, the Ugobe rep I spoke to on the phone said that my issue was something that he'd not heard of. So maybe it would be the right thing to do to send him back so that they can take a look at him. I'm just... well, I think this smiley pretty much explains my feelings:
I'm caught between a rock and a very hard place. It's kind of a lose-lose situation. I just want PleoWorld's general opinion.
Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Rosy,
I understand your feelings, but if you don't send him back for a replacement, your feelings about this matter will never end... Your Pleo may keep resetting himself.. and all you do with him will keep getting wiped out and he will keep reverting back to a hatchling... just my thoughts but either way good luck..!!!

Perhaps they could fix the problem with your dino, and send him back to you... not a replacement. Not sure if UGOBE can give you that kind of personal attention, but if I were you I'd ask...
He seems to be acting normally now. I'd thought he'd gone back to being a baby again because he wouldn't stand up, wouldn't respond to being tickled, and just kept sniffing over and over again. He's acting normally again, however. It may have just been that he was hungry--in final, last-ditch desperation I offered him something to chomp on and he went right back to normal.
I feel like an absolute fool. *highly embarassed* I apologise!

hello hi its wiley
Hello
Please help. I purchased a pleo for my daughter. I gave it to my techy brother to make sure he was working properly....i guess its a boy! However im now discovering you canot reset him. My brother just let him be, so i guess he has grown up a loner. I really want my daughter to have him from the beginning so she can make her own choices & have the experience. Help on resetting pleo to factory defaults would be great & id even be willing to ship him back if i could
Any help appreciated!!

Thanks for the reply....there was no warning about this in the instructions so im a little dissapointed. I would prefer to ship him back in this state even if it costs me more money. Is there any official feedback on this from the guys at pleoworld? Please help!!

Thanks but this was not even mentioned in the instructions. I am now left with a pleo growing to be a loner as a gift for my daughter  Would it be possible to have him replaced?.........are there any plans to add a reset feature? Its not like i can just nip out and by a new one as i paid 250 pounds. Its more than a little dissapointing. Again this should have been made very clear.......... More help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is a way to reset Pleo to hatch again, but it's not sanctioned by UGobe as far I know...
It uses the "automon.txt" file to run some code on Pleo. You can find it if you google...

From how everyone talks about their Pleos ,I kind of think that if you start playing with him now he will gradually become more playfull. The parents that have spent alot of time with their pleos have much more active ones. So all is not lost for your daughter. I'm sure she will play with him and bring him around.l

The feature that determines how pleo behaves depending on how he was treated after hatching was not implemented in the version of Life OS that was shipped with the Pleos - so your brother's neglect hasn't affected your pleo in the slightest

Hi ronschilling,
Sorry you are having problems. There is no reset function.
The first thing I'd check is if the battery is hot. If the battery is not hot are you sure it has a full charge? Are you running the battery all the way down before recharging the battery?
If you don't think it's a problem with an overheated battery or that the battery isn't fully charged please contact Customer Support. They have trouble shooting lists they can go through with you to determine if there is a problem :)

How do you get Pleo to hatch again. I wouldn't mind having some people witness the spectacle, but I can't find it anyplace on the internet. Does anybody know?
Their is no way (at present) to reset pleo, if you just want to place him in his box press the black button ( i think the third press makes him go into position)

Re: resetting Pleo personality.
As always. Proceed at your own risk. Not officially endorsed by UGOBE.
PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!
----
You need an SD card.
Save this file http://aibohack.com/pleo/reset/automon.txt to the topmost folder of a working SD card.
Place it inside Pleo, and turn it on.
When it stretches, turn it off (should take only a few seconds)
Then reinsert the SD card into your computer.
Remove the 'automon.txt' from the SD card (you don't want to run it again accidentally)
Be sure there are two .BAK files on the SD card. (If you like, save them -- that's the old personality).
Delete the two .BAK files from the SD card too.
-----
The personality inside Pleo is wiped. When you run it normally (no SD card) it will start over from scratch as a newborn.

With pleo's personality being stored in these two files as a list of values for variables, it seems like it would be incredibly simple to make a "personality editor". Using a script like the reset one you just provided without the last two lines deleting the files, you could copy the personality to an SD card, pull up the files in an editor, change the values, and then copy the updated files back into pleo using a similar automon script. (I played around with the files in a hex editor.)
And for someone like the blablablabla4 who wants to "show off the hatching phase", they should be able to use your script to backup the personality, reset pleo for others to witness the "birth", then using another script, restore the original personality back to the way it was.
O.K., I admit I'm tainted by the fact that I work with large corporate business continuity and disaster recovery issues, but I backed up my pleo's OS and personality before installing the update, so that I had a way to restore him if the update went bad. ;)

Very easy. The file format is simple. Understanding the interdependencies of the properties is more complicated.
Right now (IMHO) the properties are simple, and not worth the effort to tweek.

Hopefully the personality will be more complex with the 1.1 release. It has been hinted the 1.1 update will include a tool to at least monitor Pleo's brain.

I agree the personality is quite simple, but there seem to be quite a few people who would be happy just to change the basics (make a clingy pleo more adventurous or a sleepy pleo more active).

Hi Guys,
If you left a comment on my blog, i could of answered a lot sooner. Ugobe said to me, and i hope they actually wanted me to say - they didn't say not to? That they are currently trying a third party piece of software which lets you monitor your Pleo.
For you guys which are familiar with HyperTerminal, which is on any windows PC, you can interact with objects over the COM port. Ugobe use a version of this (i assume) to get diagnostics information from Pleo, and someone has developed a GUI for it.
It may or may not be released with 1.1, but here's hopeing.

pleo does reset, and found out why at least mine can at odd times reset. Version 1.1 has not fixed this problem, and have had this problem with version 1.02 onwards.
My discovery is when the battery goes flat he can go into an endless loop. Recharging him will cause a reset.
I suspect because there is no real way to know your Pleo has gone flat it can corrupt his OS system, and loop causing it to become unstable, so with a full charge will reboot.
I have emailed support yet don't seem to get any emails back, so contacing support fulls on deaf ears. I have suggested so defant fuction like a chime when the battery needs to charge.
With the old OS system he slept and refused to function, but the new OS updates will let you use your Pleo until he is totally flat, so the problem of he stops and freezes in the middle of what he was doing, so when the battery goes flat his OS system can become courrpt.
It's not a bug, but UGBEO needs to stop this happing a way for Pleo to tell you when his battery needs to be charged, rather then become so flat it can corupt your OS system causing reboot.
Seems support don't want to know the Reboot problems, which is why I hear nothing back from support.
They don't want to acknowlege Pleo has problems, and this thread indicates rebooting is common.
So think Pleo letting you know when he needs a charge may solve this?
I just wonder if all you have had reboot problems how full was your battery? I know from experence a flat battery can lead to reboot problems.

My pleo Rex went to sleep and made a snore noise and then shut down when the battery became low.
fancyfont
04-15-2008, 11:43 AM
The battery gets too warm and Pleo will stop. Peeky won't snore when turned off and then back on again if there is still more battery life. He might make an aw sound but will just stop.
Only at the end of the battery charge does he snore once. If you turn your little guy off and back on, wait for a couple of seconds for just one snore. He should be in his sleeping position. Head down, eyes closed, and tail a little curled.

04-18-2008, 04:48 AM
It would be nice if there was a distinct position (or another way) of knowing that Pleo has "fallen sleep" because the battery should be recharged, and is not just napping. I'm not around Pleo all the time when he's running, so I often miss the "one snore and sleep" so I have to try to wake up by 'shaking' -> often no reaction, so I then switch off and on again to check, often he then wakes up and goes for half an hour or longer.
So a position that is distinctly different when needing a charge versus when napping - or another definite&permanent way of knowing what's up when you find Pleo still!!!

Mine just did the same thing. We have recharged our battery a good 20 times over the past 2 months. Today when we put it in, he went through a re-hatch cycle. We could not get him to wake up, sing or do any of his regular behaviors. Does this mean we have to re-update the software as well? Is everything lost?

From past postings here in the forums, rehatching does not require reloading anything, just that your pleo has started over again in it's learning process. So the personality might be different.

Pleo can't be "reset" to factory defaults to go through the birthing process again. However if you do the upgrade to Life OS 1.1 he will go through a similar process, it's just not as long as the original.
