They will fall in love. Smitten. Fixated on the "little sucker." LOL :p

We'll have to call psychiatrist roschler in, to treat the Roomba stalkers ....

Well I already have a Roomba in my house that runs all over the place at 9 am... My question is, when I get a Pleo, will he get run down by Roomba? I know Roomba doesn't hit hard, but it moves my trash cans and stuff around and I'm worried that if I'm at work and Pleo goes wandering around he's going to get pwned by my Roomba. And since they both cost $350 it would be some costly pwnage. How tough is Pleo?

well, if when you get home from work, you could experement "under your supervision" and watch with your hands on pleo to see how hard roomba hits him, if you think it was too hard for pleo, then you may need to keep pleo in a room with the door closed, just an idea:)

from earlier reads pleo can handle some bumps. they are also expecting young boys to perhaps play roughly with pleo, so they built him to be able to take some punishment.

i'm still thinking of the movie script for our pleo-zilla !

so far, you see the downtown city, with people going to work among the tall buildings and traffic jams. then a quick fade out and fade in of a thud sound in an open field (screen shakes) (no view of pleo yet), then back to the city....

I think you might be forgetting something.

If Pleo is awake when you leave, he will run out of battery power one hour or so later. Then, when you get home, he will need to charge for four hours, just when you want to play with him.

Might it not be better to have him charging while you are gone, so when you return, he is ready to play?

if ugobe decides to make the charging nest, maybe pleo will be able to walk over to it and charge himself:)

He would need both a software and hardware revision for that to happen. So, probably not for quite some time ... sorry.

well thats fine, but what if you were at work and pleo was done charging, would he be able to wake up and start walking arounf freely "if there is a charging nest"

Seeing as there isn't a charging nest, nobody knows the answer to this!

If there was a charging nest I guess that it would be possible for Pleo to start wandering around when he was charged, but its all theoretical until one is designed.

Does anyone know if AIBO was able to do this? I know he went to his charger by himself (in theory, anyway!) but I can't remember if he left it again when he was charged.

If my white Snoopy type AIBO got onto the charger by himself, he could get off by himself. But if I put him on there, he had to stay there until I took him off. I'm not sure if the AIBOs with the stand up ears could do the same thing or not.

ROFLOL!

mweed, how do you do it? LOL

I love how you keep coming up with "thread appropriate" comics you can "modify" to star Pleo ... :)

I just use whatever is in the current day's comics. This last one is yesterday's comic strip "Rubes". The REAL question is, how do you guys keep coming up with comments in the threads that match today's comics?

Of course it helps that I read 150+ comics a day... ;)

it would be cute to have pleo chase the roomba and vice-versa. maybe pleo will think that the roomba is its mom and follow it around as it cleans the floor

That sounds cute. But Pleo would have to learn to run really fast. More likely, Roomba will clean circles around Pleo, while Pleo bobs its little head back and forth. LOL

Aside: Your avatar looks like something seen under a really powerful microscope. Something that give people allergies. Or makes them sick, like a virus or bacteria. It might be something seen under an electron microscope, and I'm not up on all the silly names they give things like that these days. (Last thing that sticks in my memory was quarks, but that was quite some time ago, and I don't remember the more recent ones ...) Or I suppose it could be a spiny seed pod, like the burrs that get stuck on socks after a hike in the countryside. Or it's an odd angle, doctored photo of a puffer fish. ;) LOL

well i guess pleo could ride the roomba. that would surely make a cute picture

and no, my avatar is not a quark or an allergen or a seed pod or a puffer fish. i should make a contest out of this. maybe the one who wins could get a handmade pleo collar or something

Well, I was joking about the puffer fish ... LOL

OK, it's maybe not small then. How about really large. It looks a little like the sun when seen through a filter, showing plumes and sunspots.

Don't tell me its a hairball ... :p

How about it being a design sketch of the Lectroid spaceship from The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonsai Across the 8th Dimension...

no it is not a pleo hairball. but that is a good guess. and its not a lectriod spaceship, but that is a closer guess. okay im gonna start a thread in the pleo cafe for this contest and you can all guess there.

I just saw an article/blog on wired about the new roomba (http://blog.wired.com/geekdad/2007/09/testing-the-new.html), which brings up a cute idea for a new pleo game: Pleo jousting!

Not unless you can convince him to keep his tail tucked -- otherwise the whirling around will catch his tail on something, and it's all over. LOL

Great. With my luck my Pleo will fall in love with the Roomba and elope. I can't think of anything more embarassing than getting a "Dear John" letter from your own pet! :D

Depends if Pleo's hardware and software is capable of high autonomous life, meaning that if Pleo's software or hardware is capable of letting Pleo sleep whenever he wants and wake up whenever he wants. It might be possible, though because the charging nest got cancelled, due to battery issues, nobody really knows the answer.

I would think the answer is no. Possibly in the "Pleo II" though.

There would have to be a basic hardware redesign beyond just the firmware for this model.

Yes, but there won't be a Pleo II or Pleo 2.0, etc. UGOBE is planning to make another life form, not a remodeled or upgraded life form!

Fast forward one year and one month and we have Pleo Roomba surfing! Use the remote control!!! lol. Otherwise it would be a disaster. Please make sure your Pleo likes it.
Here is the link to my Pleo Roomba Surfing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2bj-L35-Go)video. Schroeder hollered after his short trip so we took him off. I think Linus would still be going if we let him. ;)
