Pleoworld.com will be hosting the pleo registry soon. In the mean time, this thread is a place for people to give their suggestions or talk about what they named their pleo.

i need ideas! I only have 2 ideas digger, or rocky well.. you could always name him pleo but if you said to someone "i have a pleo, his name is pleo " that would sound a little funny dont you think... anyone have more pleo name suggestions?:)

Well, I know a family that named their dog "Dog".

I would think with the younger kids "Littlefoot" would be a popular choice.

it depends on it's personality.

but i do need to confess, that i may have to sacrifice my pleos in order to purchase "Rock Band".

If you know what Guitar Hero is, Rock Band is that to the nth power.

it's two guitars, a singer, and a drummer. The drum kit has 4 pads and a kick pedal.

ok, so i got excited and posted the links! Hopefully i can still get both, but if not please don't kill me for sacrificing Pleo !

if you never played guitar hero, i'm sure a friend of yours has it. try it, you'll love it!

ok, i'll stop.

maybe roschler won't find this post and send his angry pleo after me.

I'm sure if you decide to cancel your order or sell your First Hatch pleos, there will be people eager to take them. But maybe, instead, you could sell your car and get both. Then train the pleos to play the drums. (Lower the controllers so that the pleos can hit the foam pads with either their head or tail. I doubt if their feet would be able to work the guitar frets...) I mean, hey, if you have the pleos AND Rock Band, why would you ever want to leave the house?

What better for a "rock" band, than a prehistoric drummer? Or, since this thread is about pleo names, in the movie Caveman Ringo Starr (who has been known to play the drums on occasion) played the character by the name of "Atouk"

It would be worth calling your Pleo Atouk just to be able to tell that story everytime someone asks you to explain how you chose it!

I just can't imagine calling him anything but Pleo - especially after the video demos with Caleb CHung saying gently 'Pleo! Wake up, Pleo!'.

hardyfoster
07-17-2007, 05:23 PM
an interesting test would be to cover pleos feet with some plastic bags and see what he learns and such while walking in water.

or what if his foot was caught in a dino trap? would he try to escape or just give up and get depressed ? does it depend on his personality? if he is agressive or not ?

and cami i wasn't advertising. i don't work for them. it's an awesome product for the music arena.

It would be worth calling your Pleo Atouk just to be able to tell that story everytime someone asks you to explain how you chose it!

A few other good prehistoric names to consider from the movie:
Tala (the heroinie) played by Shelley Long
Lar (the sidekick) played by a very young looking Dennis Quaid
Tonda (the bad guy) played by John Matuszak
Lana (the bad girl) played by Barbara BachAnd if you don't mind a really long German sounding name, "Eidechsespielkamerad" is German for "lizard playmate". The Latin would be "conlusor lacerta"...

The Flintstone's pet dinosaur was named Dino (prnounced "dee-no").
There was Number 5, the AI robot from the movie Short Circuit.

My daugter suggested Cami for a girl, based on the type of dinosaur the Pleo is.

Here's a website that lists the most popular pet names based on orders placed with the company for name tags: http://www.bowwow.com.au/top20/index.asp

In the movie "Dinotopia" they used numbers for names. Each person was assigned a dino for a life partner. Ugobe is giving us a chance to have a dino for a life partner (pet).

My pair will be Sally Pleo and Teddy Pleo. I have decided they will not be twins, because my daughter is raising the little boy through the first two life stages, and I am raising the little girl. Then they will "meet" and both live with me, becoming little sweethearts instead of brother and sister.

At least I sure hope it works out that way! :)

Hello? Duh. It was a joke. You know -- funny, ha ha. ;)

That was a joke, too .... you can tell by the silly face doing the winking, at the end of the sentence. That little face with the wink means someone is "pulling your leg" (teasing in a cute way), and inviting you to laugh about what they said.

So my "Hello? Duh" was a tease, and if you were here with me, you could tell I was just kidding around, by the tone of my voice.

I have a feeling your "Hello? Duh" was more of a scolding than a tease. And I got that impression because you did *not* use a winking face after the statement. But, I hope I'm wrong about that .... I hope you are having just as much fun as we are all having, on this list. :)

Amjoie is right, absolutely no disrespect was ever intended. Actually, I'm sure Ugobe spent a lot of time and effort to come up with the name "Pleo" for their baby Camarasaurus, and they believe it to be a very good name. So, "Pleo" may actually be the best choice for a name!

Well, I certainly don't want to break any hearts, but Sally is already spoken for -- Teddy is, even now, waiting for the big day he when he will be old enough to meet her. And that will be well before the first party. So, Sally won't be available, for all your bachelor Pleos. Sorry guys!

Have you seen the way people dress up their dogs and cats in cute little sweaters, boots, T-shirts, and raincoats? Or seen the fancy collars, bows, and jeweled "necklaces" they put on them?

I would have to say Barbie would be so lucky, as to be dressed like some people's pets ....

Crackers or Nuts? :p Hmmm... "Jericho" doesn't sound so bad. Back in Jurassic, when I was a girl, there were a few comics whose main characters were prehistoric men: "Rahan", "Tunga the Gmur" (who had a friend named Xam). I can't remember any female name. If I'll decide that my Pleo is a female, maybe I'll call her Epiny, from a Robin Hobbs novel.

Even before alot of you started receiving your first hatches, I thought... hmmm, if this little robot will eventually develop it's own personality, wouldn't that development hint at it's gender? Now after reading about how different some of the Pleo's are after hatching, some with alot of energy others more reserved... some bumping into walls and falling off tables... others refusing to go exploring at all until they get enough attention! I think I will stick to the gender neutral name I've chosen for mine, "Sam" this way, I will get to see how he/she developes and then decide if I know what gender it is. I have a feeling it won't really matter, I'm gonna love her either way ;)

I also have a robot dog that is named K-9 (from "Dr Who") and my Stiquito robot is named Ash from the movie "Alien".

(I love robots)

I think of "Pleo" as what they are, so they can still have names. I named mine Knut (after the baby polar bear in the Berlin Zoo), but on second thought, if I had two, I would mine one "Deckard" and the other "Rachel" after Blade Runner. Actually, I thought Knut may want to change his name to Deckard already. :)

First I thought "Pleo" would work just fine and didn't even want to assign a gender, but it's hard to not view Pleo as a pet. Now he's male (since the word "robot" is of male gender in the German language), and his tendency to get cat hair stuck to his rubber skin kinda suggests the name Fuzzy. I wonder if Pleo's software uses fuzzy logic?

There is a book called "The Book of Magical Names". It is a huge guide of names from around the world and all their meanings. The names are related to gods, goddesses, magical beings/creatures, places, things, people, animals, etc. It also has a huge section of names from many fantasy novels. You can find names to fit the personality of your Pleo in it and many of the names are fantastic. Its also great for finding cool pet names. And also great for baby names.

I found a online place with boys names, and as it is a Pleo, I desided to use a name starting with P, I then found 3 names I liked really much, got ride of the first name as it sounded to much like a dog name, and then I let my daughter deside between the two names I had left, this way my Pleo got his name. . . My Pleo is female and I call her Pluriel.
The name came up in my head out of nowhere even before I ordered her. No idea where it came from.
Since nothing else came to mind and I find it special that my mind comes up with such a typical name subconsioucly, I decided to keep it at that.
I am sure there is a reason that name came to mind and it fits her perfectly, strangely enough! :)

So far I call him Pleo or Plowie. (Pronounced Plow-ee.) For some reason that name seems to stick in my head. I was thinking of calling him Cali,(Which would make him a her.)after my beloved cat that passed on February 8,2008 at just 5 years old. Just a few days away from her 6th birthday. Just be sure not to use super glue. I was beating my head against a tree trying to come up with a name for my pleo and got a stick stuck to my forehead with the glue. And when I went to smack myself for being so stupid, the palm of my hand got stuck to the glue on the stick, and I had to walk around for days like that. But I finally ended up naming my pleo after the nurse at the emergency room.

So, once I get out of jail and get home to my pleo, I know what to call him. It turned out the tree I was banging my head against was in a public park, and had a spotted owl nesting in it. So, while I was recovering in the hospital, a group of environmentalists came into my room protesting my destruction of an endangered species' habitat, and they started beating me with their picket signs. Well, as I rolled off the hospital bed and crashed to the floor, I accidentally ripped the tag off the mattress. When the police came in to break up the riot, they apparently noticed that the tag was missing from the mattress and was stuck to my bandages with the "Do not remove this tag under penalty of law" clearly showing....

Oh my Gawd!!!! Its horrible What happened to the stick?

Well I named my first Pleo Rex, because I thought Rex is a good name for a pet and T-Rex is a pretty awesome dinosaur. When Rex broke, another Pleo came along, I called him Havoc because Rex had done nothing but wreak havoc and had broken quite a few coffee cups. Havoc has now broken and I am waiting for my third pleo, which I think I am going to call Lucky, third time lucky... who knows!

Hi Spirit Fur Eva, I sure hope the hurricane won't do any damage. I've been watching the news and it looks pretty bad.
You are going to have one lucky little Pleo, Maple.I can tell she will be very spoiled.
Stay safe and let us know how you rode out Hurricane Fay.

I named my Pleo "Irwin" because I greatly admire the late Steve Irwin, as well as his and his family's work to conserve wildlife. He frequently referred to crocodilians as living dinosaurs, so I figured that naming my own personal dinosaur after him would be a fitting tribute.
