I know that this answer has already been answered a few times, but I am looking for a more solid answer :)

When will additional battery packs be sold separately. The reason I have a concern for this is that I know that when my family gets their new pet for the holidays that everybody family/friend will want to see it and interact with it. If you could see a lit of all of those people, you would know that the battery life of a single battery will not do. Iven having one more battery is good because you can alternate. Anyway, it would be nice to know a date or something.

I feel this would help your product sell more (logic: the more hours a Pleo runs, the more time people get to see it. Therefore the more people that want to get one).

Yes it would be nice to know a target date.

Hi,

I just got a reply after a bunch of posts and e-mails etc.

According to Ugobe from the e-mail I received today extra batteries will not be available until Spring of 2008.

I asked a couple of other questions that went along with this and they choose not to answer them.

I am sorry, as much as I like Pleo I find this pretty unacceptable.

Also, by this time I am wondering if the present battery will still hold charges like it does now and if the battery breaks or fails to recharge due to normal use will they replace it or will you be stuck waiting.

I said all along they should have stuck to some type of common rechargeable battery pack.

I do not buy the warrantee answer either that I saw posted by someone on the Internet in that Ugobe could not monitor or regulate the product because of people using other batteries by other manufactures. They could have just gone to rechargeable AA cell types worst case.

This makes no sense whatsoever. What were they thinking?

Leo was born 2 days ago. At the moment he doesnīt walk a lot. When he is walking, he doesnīt notice things in his way. I think he needs some more charges to get more lively. It would be very helpful to have a second batterie, itīs very hard for my son to wait while recharging. Every day with LEO is exciting!

Yeah, it's on their to-do list, though there's things higher up on it, such as the Life-OS update.

I'd guess too that batteries aren't for sale yet for a reason; so that Pleo owners have limited playtime with him and won't get bored with him as fast and discover how limited he is as quick...then proceed to shelf it and forget about their product.

So I would expect that additional batteries will be going for sale around the time the Life-OS update goes live.

my little guy didnt even get a chance to
explore before his battery died..
He was born last night..and we played for about 30 minutes than "PUFF"
he was gone.
Im well aware that what it takes to run this little guy is complicated.
But, surely one should get more than 30 minutes of playtime.

Come on guys Hurry and get a fix!!

Are you sure it was charged all the way and wasn't a "false" full charge- as in if you take the battery in and out, after 10 mins does the light turn green again or stay red? Remember it should take around 3-4 hours to fully charge. There's really no other explanation as to yours dieing after 30 mins, as battery length is dependent on how active your Pleo is- and during the first charge (the birth and hatchling stages of life), it really doesn't move much or explore anyway.

I just got my Pleo yesterday- took 3 hours for the light to turn green, and I ended up getting about an hour and a half of playtime. Over the following charges, it finishes in roughly 3 hours, and gets an hour or so of activity.

I just got a Pleo for Christmas and love it, but I don't think it is working right. I charged the battery ahead of time like suggested and my pleo never stays on for more than 5min Max than it either goes to sleep and does not come back on unto I charge the battery again or it moves an inch and stops , moves an inch and stop over and over until it finally stops all together. I have yet to see Pleo even walk yet and I have been playing with him for 5 days now; twice a day and nothing,. Is this right or is there something wrong.??
Please Help!!

There appears to be serious issues with the charging unit - you have to reseat the battery a number of times to force the charging unit to fully charge the battery. I did this 5 times and finally got Pleo to stay awake for a full play period...however, my charger does not work at all any more. When I put the battery back in, I get no lights what-so-ever.

I'm waiting on Uglobe Support now to get back to me on how I can get another charger unit.

You might find the same problem - if Pleo constantly goes to sleep, the battery might not have a full charge.

Make sure you firmly seat the battery in the charger. If the light turns from red to green in less than 20 minutes, remove the battery from the charger and immediately reseat it. If the charging light turns red and then green after 20 minutes, repeat...from what I've read, this is probably an indication that you also have a bad battery charger.

I'll update more when I hear from Uglobe Support.

Regards,
Marshall

You might need a new charger...I did!

Thank you , Thank you!! I did as you said and kept putting the battery back on the charger and it did turn back to red everytime until it finally charged all the way!! I finally had a full play time with Pleo and it was great! Thank you so much for the fast and accurate feedback. I really appreciate it.:)

looks like if your battery goes, you're out of Pleo cuddles until Summer - remember promised dates are always VERY optimistic. I doubt we'll see spare batteries available till late Summner 2008.

In any case, Pleo should have been shipped initially with a reserve battery so that it could be kept alive and not have to sleep 3-4 hours between each charge.

How are they going to manage TV demos for marketing? probably use a better battery pack that lasts longer...

Otherwise I agree with all comments.

When he sleeps many think he has died. A lot of activtly causes Pleo's battery to get hot, so slows down and sleeps. This could be making you think he has gone flat.

Hold him upside down. If he screams put him down again pet him, make him happy and will move again.

That does work. You can also turn off the onand off switch, turn it back on and if he's asleep he'll wake up. If battery is needing charged Pleo gives one snore.

I found this quote at UGOBE.com, It's in the latest article about pleo and was in the wallstreet journal.. this is the dissapointing part... (Though UGOBE sent me two rechargeable batteries so I could more quickly continue using Pleo, the company won’t start selling extra batteries until June (at the latest) for $50 each. This means waiting for hours between Pleo playtimes):(:(:( this makes me sorta mad... I'm not sure if I'll buy an extra battery anymore:mad:!!!!

i agree pleoguy, but i think it's better for a company make all the things with the right time. I'm waiting for Pleo from one year and i'll waiting until august for him to come...
you're lucky cos your pleo is in your home, and in other countries not...

I heard in some other post that Ugobe was expecting to have extra batteries available fairly soon (Feb / Mar). Now as to cost, unless the replacement batteries are of higher quality, I think $50 is pretty steep! I can but a similar pack (for other toys) retail for around $12, and a charger for around $20. But we'll just have to wait and see . . .

I agree that $50 seems a little steep. Now if it has a longer life than an hour it would be worth a little more but I still don't know about the $50. I'd rather see the OS update made available than the additional batteries.

The $50 would be quite reasonable if they are doing the Li-polymer batteries . . .

Lets hope some OEM battery company's find out about the delay and cost and take advantage and produce a alternative battery for PLEO. This is all about Capitalism an as the consumer we should benefit. This also tells us that UGOBE sales must be great as all of the spare batteries are going to manufacturing. A strong UGOBE will only benefit us all an PLEO.

$50 was the highest I wanted to pay for an extra battery, so I am fine with it. If it was cheaper, I would be more than fine, I'd be really happy, but I am just happy to get a new battery. Wish it was before March.
