View Full Version : Requests For Clicks & Links in Signature Lines

Since this has already been buried in the Dragon Egg thread I wanted to make a seperate thread here in the Water Cooler to make sure everyone saw it.

We'd like to remind everyone that the PleoWorld community is for the purpose of discussing Pleo, UGOBE products and robots in general. Our wish is to have the forums so it is easy for members to navigate and to find pertinent information in a timely manner.

We'd like everyone's cooperation in this matter and draw your attention to two of our Community Guidelines:

Remember we are here to talk about Pleo, off topic posting, posting about things other than Pleo and robotics may be removed.

In an effort to keep the PleoWorld Community informative and topical we will remove any post we feel is not a benefit to a thread's discussion. We will also remove off topic posts on a per-thread basis. Please remember that you have the Water Cooler to discuss off topic subjects.

No Advertising – Posts containing ads or Spam will be removed.

Since advertising is not allowed we are also going to ask you all to remove "Calls to Action" from signature lines that do not link to a Pleo or UGOBE related topic. A "Call to Action" is anything that requests another member to do something, such as "Click here," "Go To," "Please click on my eggs," etc.

At this time you may continue to request clicks in the "Would You Like a Dragon Egg" thread. You may also have your eggs and dragons in your signature line but you may NOT add requests for clicks or links to your scrolls in your signature lines. Links to Plogs, personal Pleo pages, Bob comics, etc will still be allowed, as they are Pleo related.

Thank you for your cooperation, we know that everyone will benefit from these small measures. :-D

Sorry, but the link needs to be removed since it's not to a Pleo or UGOBE related site. Thank you so much for your cooperation and willingness to help us out here Allosaurus. :-D

At this point in time we aren't going to backtrack to remove off topic posts. We are just asking that as a community everyone helps us to get the individual forums back on track and try to keep the nonsense and off topic posting down. :-)

Please remember that we allowed the eggs/dragons so that members could have a few finished dragons in their signature lines, not to be a venue for getting clicks an a continuous stream of eggs.

Let me try to explain exactly what these eggs/dragons are. If this was a game they would have ways fo you to hatch and grow the dragons on their own site. However, this is not a game it is a form of "Viral Marketing." One definition of viral marketing is; Marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message. In this case they are encouraging innocent people like you, who just like the dragons and want to play with them, to go out and spam other communities to try to get clicks. These clicks are for the express purpose of getting more and more people back to their site and in return they let your eggs hatch and then grow up. As more people get eggs they have to spread out to more and more communities to get the unique clicks/views thus spreading in much the same way a "virus" spreads.

Viral marketing is an extremely cheap method of marketing. In this case they are using people to go out and beg other people to click back through to their site and all they get for it is an egg that hatches and grows.

The Dragon Eggs Keep People Checking The Forums And Wanting To Come On Here. If The Dragon Eggs Were Not Allowed I Think Some People Would Stop Coming On Here So Frequently. Its The Same With The Posts. Getting Red Of Unrelated Posts To Pleo Might Reduce The Number Of People Who Come On To Pleoworld. I Agree Posts Should Stick To The Topic But Thiere Should Be Freedom Within The Threads Shud'nt There?

Wanting to talk about Pleo and robotics is what keeps people coming to PleoWorld. When it becomes difficult for those people to find topics and information on Pleo & robotics because they get buried under off topic posts and threads then it become frustrating for them and they will quit coming to PleoWorld.

For now we have left one thread for the discussion of eggs/dragons for those few members who wish to discuss them. :-)

This is so not true. People want some content to the posts they visit. Not a bunch of garbage. Several original posters have left due to this. Every Forum has their rules read them and abide by them. Dragon eggs have nothing to do with Pleo and Pleoworld. We come to share our experiences with other Pleo owners. Not hatch some dragon eggs.

I agree with Cami This is very true. Some of you have already gotten a Virus and this could be a reason why per Cami:

Absolutely yes! If a link is on topic to the thread's discussion and it's an appropriate site then you are more than welcome to include them in posts. :-D

I'd like to commend you all for doing such a good job in trying to keep the dragon/egg talk confined to the Dragon thread. :-D

However, we are again seeing problems with signatures. This includes direct requests for clicks and more subtle requests such as "please help them" etc.

We have edited several of these signatures, and in some cases we have edited the same person more than once. People with repeat infractions in signature lines will lose the right to have a signature for 3 days. If repeated again after that they will lose signature rights permanently and/or be banned from the site temporarily or permanently.

Please remember that this is a community to discuss Pleo. We allowed the dragons so members could have one or two dragons in their signature line. Not to be a venue for hatching and growing multiple dragons/dinosaurs. If the dragons/eggs continue to be a problem we will be forced to restrict the dragons to only mature dragons in signature lines. No eggs, hatchlings or requests for clicks will be allowed at all.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about non-sense posts. These would include posts with just a series of letters, asking if anyone is on, spamming a thread with non-sense posts, etc. These posts make it very difficult for other members to find posts of interest. These posts will be removed and repeat offenders may be banned from the community temporarily or permanently.

Thank you for your understanding in trying to keep the PleoWorld Community fun for all our members.

no hatchlings or eggs?? :(. that seems a little harsh... hatchlings are so cute. mabye you should set the siggie's so that they reject the words click, hatch, wings, ect.? that what i would do, anyway. hatchlings are too cute to bann. i mean seriously! some of them look like thyre dancing! how cute is that?

If the few simple rules that we have for the forums are followed, there wont be any need to ban hatchlings and eggs. We want to keep the forums a place where everyone can come in and have fun. For the most part, everyone has been doing a great job with sticking to the rules. All we ask is that everyone continue to do so, and then everyone is happy. :-)

We'd like to remind everyone that disclosing actions taken against other members is not allowed in the forums and will be removed. This is in an effort to be fair to everyone and not have someone come into the forums and say things about other members that may or may not be true.

If a member wants to disclose this information about themselves that is allowed, but please note that the moderators will not discuss any infractions or actions against members in the forums. If you have questions about any actions taken against you please send a Private Message to PWCHelp. PWCHelp will not discuss actions taken against other members.

For the record no member has been banned from the forums recently. If anyone is having problems logging in, please have them request their password using the forums tools and/or have them contact PWCHelp.

Hi Degers,

Very good question. However, some people when they have trouble logging in create a new account just to get back into the forums. We can check these names to be sure it is the same person and help them get back in, in the original name. :-)
