Just got a pleo. Named her Olympia. She's not going into explore mode, even if I do touch the fronts of her legs. Is this supposed to happen?

Pleos Dont Tend To Explore Much, The More You Pat And Cuddle Them The Less They Will Explore. The Bestway Is To Get A Good Ballanced Mixture Of Interacting Thatway They Wioll Still Explore :)

Give her a few charges' worth of activity. Irwin took his time deciding that he liked walking forward as much as he liked backing up. I think they grow into wanting to explore over a few charge cycles.
BTW, I waited several charges before upgrading him to 1.1. Once I saw that he didn't seem to be maturing any more with the original OS, then I upgraded him.

Yes she is. Macon and Yasmin were both different when they hatched. Macon took awhile to start exploring, while Yasmin (being hatched outdoors) Started exploring almost immediately. Just goes to show that all pleos are different. :)

This makes me start to think . . . Based on the discussions that the camera needs a lot of light to get a good image, and the thread on how pleos react to bright light (outdoors) vs. dark (indoors) . . . Maybe pleos need a lot of light in order to see well for them to want to explore . . . Hmmm . . . DOes that seem to make sense? Can anybody confirm that theory?

Pleo will go into explore mode if you leave them alone without touching them for long enough.
Otherwise you can hold the two front leg touch sensors untill the pleo starts to walk then you can let go.

ANyways, she's on her fifth charge and won't do anything but sit and wail for attention. But she's cute.... I love my Pleo.

I think you're onto something. Irwin is more interested in his surroundings when he's in a well-lit room. He probably can't even SEE his surroundings unless he's in a well-lit room. In which case, it's probably better if he doesn't go marching off into the Great Unknown, because he could walk right off a table or take a tumble down a flight of stairs.
You know what Pleo needs? A little helmet with a built-in light, like miners wear. :) Then he'd have his own built-in flashlight and he'd be able to "see" what was in front of him.
HMMMM. I have a bunch of little reading lights and other assorted goodies. I wonder if any of them can have a Pleo-sized chin strap fitted to them? ;)

No mine was hatched inside. And he explored almost immediately. He still explores more than the first one.
Its not dark but not as bright as outside. The first one took a while to explore
