LOL. Well, I've finally got Irwin exploring. He's on his fourth charge, and in order to get him to walk forward, I decided that on this charge I wouldn't handle him repeatedly. Seems like he like staying in one place if I pet him a lot.
Anyhow, he's walking forward today, as opposed to the behavior I mentioned in some recent posts where he spent more time moonwalking than walking forward. Another landmark in Irwin's development. :) He happened to bump into my cane, which is leaning against an end table. He stopped moving, because the cane was blocking his nose-cam and I'm sure he couldn't see anything.
Pause. Pause. Back up a step or two. Irwin's nose-cam was moved clear from the cane and was no longer obstructed. The cane, meanwhile, shifted an inch or two against the table with a "clunk".
Irwin turned his head to look up at the cane, a large, pale-wooden object which towered over him; he looked right at it, and grunted. I laughed out loud. It looked like he was talking to the cane. :) Then he continued exploring.
He also growled at the loveseat and has been saying "Huh?" every time he encounters something unfamiliar. This is the first time he's seen a LOT of stuff, like about 99% of what he's exploring. No wonder his favorite word right now is "Huh?". :)
Now he's asleep in the middle of the floor. I'm guessing this is one of the side effects of leaving him to explore on his own -- he'll tire out and/or get bored and take a nap. The battery is extremely fresh, so I doubt that's why he fell asleep.
I'd wake him to see what he does next, but my two cats have come over to sit by me. I think they need a little reassurance that they're still at the top of the pecking order. I'll oblige them with some doting, so they don't feel the need to react with jealousy toward Irwin. Ideally, they'll come to treat him either like my PC, which doesn't trouble them when I pay it attention, or the Roomba, which they find fascinating and follow around at a safe distance.
