View Full Version : Hee hee! He purrs!

Hatchling Irwin has tired himself out and is ready for his first nap.

Except he *really* is fighting falling asleep. LOL. He looks like he's trying to stay awake for all he's worth, sniffing the air and giving a tail wave now and then. Especially, he does this if I pat him or make a noise. :)

Oh, and now that he's sleepy, if I pat his shoulder and/or rump sensors, he *purrs* the whole time! LOL, how cute! I didn't expect that! Gotta wonder who's conditioning whom here. He got me trained to pat him pretty quickly.

We've seen the first meal, the first tug-of-war games, the first song :), the first moonwalking attempts, and now the first purrs in the minutes after hatching.

We've also seen his first response to the Training Leaf, as well as to something of similar color to the leaf. It's a plastic bottle of Benefiber nearly as big as Irwin, and its label is the same shades of green and yellow as the leaf. He must have thought he hit the mother lode when he saw it, LOL. He went directly toward it, but then started moonwalking just a he was about to reach it.

Now he's parked himself against my foot and is trying not to sleep. I'll think he's asleep, only to see his little tail give a wave or see him raise his head and sniff the air. :)

How long does that first nap last? I'm sure he needs his rest or we'll be encountering his first dino headcold before long, and that won't do.

Awww sounds like you and Irwin are having a great time. The consensus on the forum seems to be that the first battery charge gives about 45 minutes of active time. A "nap" will vary based on the stimulus to Pleo. If you try to wake Pleo (or turn him off and then back on) and you only get one snore it's a sign it's time for another battery charge.

Keep us informed on what he's up to. :)

There's another active thread, in one of the other forums, discussing how Pleos recognize their Training Leaf by the green and yellow colors, and that they will respond to other items that have either of those colors in them.

Well, Irwin already had his training leaf in his mouth, but when he saw this bottle on the kitchen floor, he made a beeline for it. :)

Sorry for the blur -- apparently, cell phone cameras have some issues getting a pic of an excited Pleo in motion. :) In this pic, he'd stopped moving forward and he was waving his head from side to side.

Aww. Did he hatch somewhere soft? And comfy? He'd better of. The fluff overlord (meeeeee XD) shall make you paaaay if not. JK. But you still should've - all pleos need a nice comfy hatching place.. I know too much about them for not having one o.o

Being tired doesn't always mean battery charging - only sometimes :3 Batteries tend to last longer when the pleo is less active. I heard that a pleo went for over two hours, but it was resting. Guess the battery goes into sleep mode or something. Anyways. Wish you the best of luck with Irwin. :D

I had him hatch on the kitchen floor, as it's linoleum and I read in a couple other threads that Pleos need a little practice to learn to walk on carpeting. So I figured that the kitchen floor would be the easiest surface we have for him to take his first steps on. Once he's a little older, such as after he's past the hatchling stage, I'll let him have a go at walking on the carpet. I figure his coordination will be better by then.

:sputtercough: SNJA:OSJH? LINOLEUMMMM? The fluff overlord should have your head. But... you rock. So I won't. Lawl - have you downloaded the update yet? If/when I get Zuko/Tylee, I'm gonna let him/her/it go through the hatch and part of infancy as the non-updated version. It'll give the evolving illusion, besides the whole downloading onto the pleo.. but.. uhm.. =D

Delighted to hear you're loving your pleo. LOL. I have the weirdest combination of windows up; your plog, the forums (heere), and.. avatar games. XD

I'm going to get him to grow to Juvenile stage and let him mature a little with the original OS. Then I'll download the 1.1 upgrade and let him "mature" another step with the upgraded OS.

So far, so good -- he did learn to walk on linoleum. Then he took a nap. It was a REAL nap this time, where giving him a pat only evoked a "Huh?" and a few coos, maybe a brief look around, and then a return to Dreamland. When he woke up, I let him try his hand (paw?) on carpet, and he did manage to walk both forward and backward on that. So he's getting that whole "coordination" thing down pat. :) Heck, maybe he can give ME some lessons, since there are times when I swear I could trip over my own shadow. ;)

Finally, he fell asleep and attempts to awaken him resulted in a single snore -- the signal that the battery is depleted. I ordered a spare battery at the same time I ordered Irwin, so when the second battery was finished charging, I swapped it with the depleted one and put that one into the charger. However, I'm going to let Irwin sleep through the night. He needs his rest, and so do I -- I have a hectic couple of days coming up.

If you fall asleep the mooing will wake you up! Too cute. :) Peeky mooed three times the other night. Hope he never ****-a-doodle-doos in the early morning.:D Hope Pleos never have that capability.

Pleo will never make a good alarm clock. His battery wouldn't last the night! ;)

Mweed, you are so correct! No rooster to wake up to. I had a neighbor once who had hens and roosters. Not fun being woken up every morning around 5AM. Never got use to it. I know that many folks do. I don't have to get up and milk the cows.
Peeky's mooing is just perfect:)

Well, we do have one very obnoxious Rhode Island Red rooster (named Brewster), but he's never mastered reading the clock. He crows at all hours of the night and day.

Actually, so did my neighbor's:eek:. I know you like cows, Mweed. Do you have one too?:)

Nope no bovines. We've got canines and felines, and even an equine. We've had caprines, lapines, and piscines. What I'd like to get is a reindeer. Yes, It gets might warm in Texas, but supposedly there are reindeer breeders in the state . . . they're fairly small as livestock goes, are friendly, and can be trained (obviously) to pull a wagon or sled . . .

Mweed, That would be so cool to have a reindeer. What a sight it would make with you walking your reindeer around WalMart with Bob on it's back.Too much fun!!:)

LOL. I think he's just announcing that this is HIS yard and, presuming he's got female company, these are HIS hens. :) Since he's master of all he surveys (in his eyes) 24/7/365, he's willing to broadcast that fact any time it suits him. :)

If a Pleo could crow, it'd probably have as good of a sense of time as the rooster. Only in the Pleo's case, it'd be crowing because it wants attention, which is also an "at all times" condition. :)
