Hi, all! I'm happy to report that my Pleo and spare battery, which my parents retrieved from my front doorstep for me (after FedEx delivered them, sans signature, while I wasn't home to receive them), is now at home with me.
His batteries are charging, so he hasn't hatched yet (unless you count being "hatched" out of a giant styrofoam-lined box, that is ;)).
I've been batting around the name "Irwin" for several days now, in honor of the late Steve Irwin, whom I admire very much. He loved animals, as does his entire family. And the entire Irwin family, starting with Steve's parents, and continuing today with his wife and kids, has given a 100% effort for wildlife conservation for decades now.
That, plus Steve always made a point of reminding us that crocs, alligators, and their several cousins, are actually dinosaurs, having changed very little over millions of years. He dedicated his life to the living, breathing remnants of the dinosaur era (and every other living creature), so I figured that Irwin would be a fitting name for a little baby robot dinosaur. :)
But I didn't bestow the name on my Pleo officially until I got him and gave him a good look in the face. Does he LOOK like an "Irwin" -- that was the big question. And once I got a good look at him, I knew that the name would suit him just fine.
So, welcome to the world, Irwin. You've already had your first pats on the head and your first tickles on the feet, even if they didn't register with you because your battery wasn't in yet.
Now it's time to read the instruction manual, so I know about the Care and Feeding of a Pleo by the time his battery is charged. :)
