View Full Version : What's a pleo ?!
I've only had Clint for a couple of weeks but I have told LOTS of people about him. And as of right this moment, not a single person I told had heard of Pleos!
The ones with kids of their own asked their kids about pleos but none of them had heard of them either !
Although I have to admit, 2 weeks ago I also hadn't heard of them.
What about your friends/ family / acquaintances etc ?
same as you a lot of people hadn't heard of them but have fallen in love with them since meeting my Leo lol.
I think it's a lack of advertising in a sense, plus when I was hunting for one and finally found it in the argos catalogue it had a tiny little pic that just simply didn't do it justice because in essence it is a toy to many people and a toy with a £250 price tag, it's not till they see one in action and realise the amount of technology included that it becomes worthy of that price.
it's a shame too because it is just such an amazing thing to own and see how people interact with.
I saw pleos in the argos catalogue too, but only after I had ordered one online. I was surprised at the advert size, it hardly leapt out !

i heard about pleo because im robot obsessed.. so i sort of stumble on these things... my catbug was bough from argos too! hahah. but no.. noone i know had heard of it.. but as i bought my pleo on a college day the whole class played with him and still ask me 'hows the green dinosaur doing?' none of them are likely to get one, but they still loved catbug! :D except for one boy who was freaked out by him... said he didnt like his eyes. haha.

None of the people I know heard about Pleo either.
There were a few exceptions thanks to an appearance of Pleo on Dutch television months before Pleo became available (Januari).
The general response however, is quite positive.

Ugobe needs to get Pleo in some brick and mortar stores for the Holidays. From what I can tell in the US, Sharper Image was the only place you could buy Pleo that wasn’t on-line. Now SI is gone. Ugobe needs to get Pleo out there so people can see it in action. When WowWee was pushing the Robosapien I saw several Plexiglas display stands with the robots doing there thing at stores like BestBuy and even Macy’s
Wired display Pleos running extra cute demo software could probably do wonders getting people interested.

yeah i agree about getting pleos in some sort of proper shop.. as far as i gathered you can only get pleos here in 'argos' which you cant psyisicly see anything til you buy it anyways. (why it took me by supprise with how big pleo was when i bought him! haha)
im sure selling them in somewhere like toys r us with a display model doing its thang would work wonders... haha.. pushy kids are the only way to go! ;) or any just general... things shop. i cant actually THINK of any right now because i just woke up and im a tired pirpi.
so far the only form of advertising ive seen yet, if you can call it advertising, was a short block on 'the gadget show' where pleo was againt a robo-boa and some.. transforming car robot to see which people prefered. so really its no wonder that people dont know much about pleo... unless youre always online and just stumble on it.. i think even a short mysterious advert on TV.. would get people confused and google pleos in sheer morbid curisity. hahah.
I first heard about pleos when i received a small leaflet through the post from iwoot.com.
I bought something from their online store a few months ago so they had sent me this small catalogue / leaflet with some new items in. Pleo was in it. I was intrigued, googled it & the rest is history !
But yes, if ugobe want it to be a smash over here they have got to get it into stores !
