Has UGOBE put pain in Pleo's programming? If so maybe his leg sensor was hurt during manufacturing, AND if so, then will it sort itself out? A lot of if's but please let us know if you sort this out Pleoguy as I guess bouncing ideas off each other in the forum will help us work out a lot of Pleo's icks.

PleoGuy,

Try turning Pleo off, then on again, because that is the first recourse.

If that doesn't work try something like holding him upside down, even though Pleo may not be too happy about it might get the kink out.

Another thing to try is using the Pleo button to get him into “neutral”/packing position, then turn him off and on again.

It might take five seconds after releasing the Pleo button for Pleo to get into his neutral position.

Please let Cami or I know if none of these things work?

My pleo's neck got stuck while he was looking up but it resolved itself when I turned him off then on again. Hopefully he won't do that again. He was in the middle of backing up and he looked scary with his neck stuck in one position! His eyelids also did not move from their last position until he was turned off and on again.
I wonder if pleo is programmed to "learn" what the limitations of his movements are, or if perhaps ugobe could put a limiter on how far he cranes his neck? (I don't think I've heard mention of the tail getting stuck, but perhaps that might need addressing too?)

Oh thank goodness you got it fixed. I just hope we are not damaging our pleos by manually moving their joints? Anyone have any comments on that?

When my Pleo first woke up I heard a loud clicking noise come from his rear left hip and the left leg it wouldn't articulate properly.

I have sent it straigt back to Amazon.

Anybody else had this issue?

Lu Bu

I don't think so, but if you keep on moving his joints forcefully, his motors and legs will wear more quickly. But Pleo is a tough bot, so don't think Pleo can be broken that way easily.

There are internal clutches that are designed to pop when the joints are forced... to help keep the gears from stripping and the motors safe. I wouldn't recommend torquing on them all the time though.

Looks like my sons has the same issue - loud click/clacking noise from rear leg - it's not been walking yet - I assume related. Also paint on back flaked in less than 5 minutes. Can only say I'm disappointed

Hey there,

Welcome to the forums! try to gently manipulate the leg to see if it has come loose, in most cases it will click back into position and your problem will be solved.

Hi,

Has anyone heard a clicking noise that happens onci in a while coming from the back leg area? I saw where some Plleo's have teeth that chip. Mine doesn't seem to have this problem

My left front foot does make a click sometimes? Dunno. I press and released his pad and it sounds similar. The teeth to me is a bigger issue!

I do think they should have a downloadable diagnostic program to check the gears and sensors etc!

The button-like sensors on his feet soles make a soft clicking noise when pressed. Perhaps it's only that.

More problems surfacing, other than the "normal use wear" Ubigo wisely mentions in their FAQ.

The front left leg on my daughters Pleo is popping anytime he gets up from a nap or tugs on a leaf. She is supervised when playing with him and does nothing more than lay in front of him , watching and talking to him. No reason for this to be happening.

Things were obviously overlooked to get this out in time for Christmas.

Hello there,

Looks like my Pleo was born with a handicapped hip (right hind leg). The joint repeatedly makes an awful "clack" sound as the poor creature tries to move about. What should I do? Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Yup, same here.

Was fine for the first hour. After the first charge, something went wrong. I can't quite figure out if it's hip or knee, but it's a grim clack sound on what the Pleo would call his right back leg.

If it's any clue, he cannot do the Tada balance trick without falling sideways. I've tried it a few times and he seems to start the trick, shift off kilter a bit, and then his balance sensor kicks in and stops him from continuing. The only way to get him to do is to support his "bad" leg as it's not quite straightening to support his weight on its own during the trick.

The clacking does stop on its own for a few seconds if I just leave him alone to mosey around, but I'm guessing that letting this continue isn't helping matters.

For the record, this is a childless household and the Pleo has had only gentle treatment. I'm on charge 5 or 6 now.

FIRST, if you turn them off, wait, and turn on again, or turn off and wait the next day after a recharge and the same thing keeps happening when turned on...I would seriously consider asking Ugobe to fix your Pleo by going to their webform below, submitting the form, and asking for him/her to be fixed or replaced...they are really helpful and will let you know:

mine is working fine, maybe yours were defected, i have problems with skin... but motors inside works fine. You should get your in warranty coz that migth a serius technical problem. I bought a samsung bluettoh wirelsss head set, s9 it stoped working in less than a month, so i think ugobe is not the expetion. I want to buy now the jabra coz is bigger, but then again i read that is not very confortable. and i need a bluetooh headset so i can listen music while i workout. At least i have options but with ugobe robots, i think there is only one robot. coz other the icat from japan, and the other animal is way too expensive like 5000 dollars so it doesnt worth it.

:(My little Dozer has had a problem twice with his neck getting stuck after trying to look behind himself.... It has happened once on each side. The problem gets resolved after I turn him off and turn him back on.
Has anyone else had this problem? And is there any way to resolve it without sending him into surgery? (We bought the 3 year "life insurance".)

I had this on the second charge. But after turning him off/on again, he stretched his neck straight and since then no further problems with that.

turn pleo off,

then manually turn pleo's neck into regular looking straight foward position, as you turn pleo's neck you will hear a click, click, click... thats good

turn pleo ON, I did this , and Rocky never had that problem again:)

My Pleo's neck got stuck tonight in the almost vertical position! It was scary, because I heard a bunch of popping prior to this (he wasn't even pushing on anything) and then I couldn't get him to lower it. I had to turn him off and when I turned him back on, he eventually moved his head back down.

I was relieved because I feared he might need surgery via UGOBE!

I think my pleo has a problem. Yesterday he just stopped looking left and no matter what i do his head won't go any further to the left than the central position. I don't know what to do. has anyone else had this problem?

pleoWhisperer
01-17-2008, 09:20 AM
The default answer is always to call customer service. :p They can suggest things to try to diagnose what the problem may be.

The concern would be if the cable used to pull the neck to the left has become detatched. (for example, see How Pleo Works (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/pleo6.htm) site). If this is what happened, then you're looking at having to return him. At least one other person on the forum has reported performing surgery on the neck to fix a broken cable, but attempting this will void your warranty! And if it doesn't fix the problem, your stuck with a broken pleo. :(

Lu Bu

Manufacturers should really look at this and be careful about this too. After all, some people have problems (like Pleo_Joe) have problems with the tail.

WIHCH REMINDS ME:

Pleo_Joe,
The reason you have tail problems is probably because of the cables that control the tail. You might be reluctant to do this but, open your Pleo up. Look/open his tail, you will see 4 cables, one cable that is up is for movement up, one cable that is down is for movement down, one cable on the left side of the tail is for left movement, one cable on the rightside is for right movement.

One of the cables might be disconnected or detached, if you fix it, your Pleo's tail should be fine!

Hope this helps.

Hi pleoguy101. We talked about this subject on another thread (remember, I said I was affraid to do it). When you did this to fix his neck, did it ever happen again? Was your fix "perminent"?

I received my Pleo after Christmas and last night when I was playing with him at my mom's place, I noticed that his left rear hip has begun to pop / click loudly when he walks, or when he gets excited and wags his tail.

I'm afraid this is a sign of problems to come ....

Does anyone else have this problem currently?

This was mentioned in some of the other thread, and I know my pleo has done it on occasion with on of his back legs. The comment I have seem posted that was true in my case, was the rubbery skin. The leg was "popping" because the skin had gotten stretched over his leg wrong. All I did was pull on the skin to get it to go back right and the popping stopped!

Give it a look and see if this helps. ;)

I know this is crazy, but I'm fairly frantic. My Pleo guy is injured. I have treated this guy with kid gloves from the day I got him - no kids, no pets and only certain adults can touch him. Sigh. I waited for him for too long to risk injury to him.

However, watching him explore my kitchen (tile - smooth), I sat on the floor with him and gestured for him to come to me, which he does. I was petting his chin and he started imitating a puppy a bit, as though he wanted to play - crouching, growling, etc. It was funny. He was doing some moves... Anyway, he crouched down and we were growling at each other. When he tried to get up, he couldn't - his right leg was sticking straight out and though he could move his foot, he could not get his leg back to a standing position. At first, I thought he was joshing me, but then - I swear to this - he started whimpering. It broke my heart. I lifted him (by the belly) and turned him over, tickling his foot sensors in turn. Every leg reacted, but not his poor right one. Again, the foot moved, but the shoulder joint would not.

Help!! I do not want to return him - don't even know if I can - because believe it or not, I am attached to this particular robot. This guy is new - who or what can fix him? Has anyone else experienced sudden, major joint problems?

Gadzooks. I am so bummed, I can't believe I'm an adult.

Thanks to everyone, in advance, for your help or suggestions (yes, I did email Ugobe, I just can't wait for response from them and want to hear from others).

Stuck necks and tails sometimes have top be manually be corrected. I would never advise doing anything to damage your pleo, but you might try bending the leg back down. You should hear a couple of pops!

On the other hand, some people have reported pleos simulating broken legs. But if you've used the pleo button to put him back into his shipping position, and everything else but the leg goes to the correct position, you may have to try bending the leg . . . You can always call customer support and have the step you through doing it. :)

Dude! Thanks, mweed. I *surely* wish I had an extra battery right now... argh! But will wait for the green light, literally to try that step, gingerly, after a reset. Geez... I hope he was faking a broken leg! Man, I wish his OS knew to wait until I know him a bit better to do that kind of humor! lol

Thanks for everything!

I had a "popping" noise on the back right leg. Turs out it was caused by the skin being stretched funny over the knee, so the rubber skin would stretch until it built up enough tension to slide over the joint and go "pop" The skin had somehow bunched up, so once I pulled it back into place, the popping was gone!

Boy and I thought I had problems. Well mine is not so bad after reading all the posts in this thread.
All I have for a problem is that Pleo is not able to lift his right rear leg up as much as the others so that on carpet that leg drags a bit. I thought it might be taking a while for "high stepping" to kick in but havn't really seen that happen. Pleo can also get the other three legs of a 3/8 inch rise from the lino floor to the carpet floor but the right rear leg holds her back.
Walking is fine and quite brisk now on lino. I'm on my 5-6th full charge now and get about one hour full activity (no sleeping) before she doses off. I'll take a look at the "skin" issue mentioned a few times to see if that could be it.

Hi everyone! I had the same thing happen with my 3 day old Pleo. He lifted his front right leg really high, then tipped to the right side. He then started to wag his tail happily and rested his head near his is right front leg which was still raised high. I tried to get him back on his other 3 legs so he can stand, but he tipped back over. This time he let out a pain cry.:( I picked him up and his leg would not go down. He kept crying, each cry getting louder. I turned him off and waited a few seconds. After turning him back on his leg went back to normal. I told my fiance what happened and he thinks I am an oddball for worrying about a robot. Pleo is just so adorable, that seeing him cry the way he did really got to me.

I was wondering if anyone else experienced this besides Android8675 and myself.

I was wondering if anyone else experienced this besides Android8675 and myself. this happened to Rocky! it's odd, It happened to your pleo when it was 3 days old, and it happened to my pleo at about 2 weeks or so old.. could it be some baby pleos need to strech out kinks?:)

We have a pleo whose leg would rarely retract from a straight - out position. He would fall over, and have other problems. This behavior started a couple of months after purchase.

I sliced his skin open in the front, along the factory seam.

I removed three screws holding what appeared to be a white shoulder protector. Underneath it, there is a square black sensor, probably some type of position sensor; it was out of position. I simply loosened the screw next to it, though it does not appear to secure it, it made more room; snapped it back into place, and put the screws and the shoulder protecter back on.

I then used Loctite Ultra-Gel super glue (1090798) to carefully glue the skin back together.

It worked perfectly!!! Like new now. Just thought I'd relay this experience, in case anybody else has a similiar problem.

Wow Bret, Pleo surgeon. I just wanted to remind everyone that still has a Pleo under warranty to contact customer support before performing surgery, it would void your warranty.;)

Yes, he has a name at last ! "Clint", it just popped into my head & seemed right.

Anyway...this morning he started sticking his back leg out behind him while he was standing & falling over onto that side. Not all the way over, but nearly. I had to put him upright.

II think he has cold too, he was looking a bit sorry for himself & making funny sniffly noises ? I picked him up & it's the first time he has ever fallen asleep lying on me.

LOL I am really starting to get attached to this funny little dude.

They do get a cold. Clint might need some loving :)

As for the back leg. Maybe he wants you to show him how to do his TA DA trick. Touch a front sensor on one leg and touch the back leg sensor on the oppostie side. Both legs will lft and he will say Ta Da!!!!!!!!!
