Once again I was looking at Pleo pics and i saw this! http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.popsci.com/files/imagecache/photogallery_image/files/articles/D-Rex.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.popsci.com/entertainment-gaming/gallery/2008-02/2008-tia-toy-fair&h=318&w=440&sz=26&hl=en&start=290&um=1&tbnid=wmzgX9T3padSYM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpleo%26start%3D273%26ndsp%3D21%26um%3 D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4ADBS_enUS272US273%26sa%3DN

The Pleo killer? Now that's funny! It's been around as a prototype since February. I haven't seen any real specs on it, but I like the speech (command) recognition. For something that's not nearly as sophisticated as pleo, they seem to have been able to get it to do a few things pleo can't.
Could be cute to get one just for the videos of it with pleo!
I found this site http://gizmodo.com/357482/d+rex-pet-dinosaur-stalks-prey-bites-your-sister-doesnt-poop-on-the-floor It needs a remote and I do agree, it has a face only it's creater could love:mad: I think that it's just a lame toy. They liked the dancing Elmo better *laughs and points in D-Rex's face*
It says that it stalks prey, I realy don't think it can do much at all. It looks like all it does is wag it's tail, go into gaurd mode, and move. It looks lick robo rapter with skin.

D-rex, another toy in my eyes, but as http://youtube.com/watch?v=0gUBhLHYaHc THIS guy says, the ultimate robot pet for boys.
Seriuosly, just because he likes being pet (not as much as Pleo does altough) doesn't make him good.
List of D-rex abilitys I know of:
100 diffrent roars, to see wich mood he is in
Light sensors for Watchdog mode
Eating mode (What use is that?)
Touch sensors (I don't see much response to them though)
Can walk (fowards)
Nice facial movements (I DO quite like them)
Yes and No mode (remote based: "answers" yes and no based questions)
Fun mode (for games)
Agressive mode (Well he IS a Rex)
Although they say he isn't remote controled, I don't like the idea of modes. It's like forcing a dog to jump through a ring of fire.
Pleo has watchdog mode too. But you don't have to force him to eat or be angry by pushing any buttons.
D-Rex costs 150 $, so think about it before buying him. I don't see me having that much fun with him as I do with Waffles.
D-Rex = Toy
Pleo = Companion
Sorry if something is written wrong, I'm quite tired :)

Pleo is definitely designed to be a friendly companion pet robot. D-Rex looks like it's designed to be a little tough guy -- maybe a robot pet henchman? ;) Or perhaps he fits more into the fantasies of kids who imagine themselves as having a pet creature that will do battle for them (like the Pokemon characters).
I get a sense that, other than the fact that both Pleo and D-Rex are dinosaur robots, they're designed for two different market niches that don't completely overlap. And that's OK. :)

I like it's facial movements, but it's not as good as pleo.
I would have to say that after that video I realy love Ferny even more! I realy think if that five inch ugly thing charged at me I'd knock it down, what if the it charged at the kid who owns it? It realy isn't the perfect pet because pleo already is!

Meh, I would probably have fallen in love with that at six, which is the age group its aimed at. He looks like a big oafish toy. When I was a little boy, I used to be able to turn all of my cheap plastic and rubber dinosaurs into horrible, vicious monsters. I used to make my action figures talk and interact. Sometimes they would die, get married, turn evil, heck, I had a whole universe in my room. There was my Godzilla, about two feet tall, who would destroy all my lego houses, before being forced back by the combined efforts of Batman, Spiderman, the X Men, and some very friendly dinosaurs. When I was younger, I was able to develop an imagination. Todays little kids arent getting that. They would rather play video games then read, and have all these cheap robot toys that do all the acting for them. I remember when Furby came out. I actually had one of those wretched things. Even with that, I was the star of my own action show, featuring Furby. I don't know. I happen to think that those little army men are a lot more educational than games like "Spore" (although it does admittedly look awesome). I mean, I feel as though I can attribute most of my abilities as a writer back to my childhood. anyway, to compare that little "marvel" to Pleo is sacrilege. 'Nuff said!

Half the price of Pleo, but doesn't even come close to half the capabilities of Pleo hardware and software wise.
Not something I would buy at all, ever.
And I am sure that if a toy like that can have (might I add) simple voice recognition, then Pleo can (still) have this too.
Other then the speech recognition, I cannot see anything else that Pleo cannot already do and also way better.
Calling this the Pleo killer is a silly move and I hope it seriously won't try to compete with Pleo.
They are two totally different products.

There is definately no competition there! But still, Ugobe should take another look at the whole dinodaur thing. People WANT dinosaurs. They would be performing a public service by putting out some different ones so we wouldn't have to SUFFER through efforts like D Rex!
I just don't think they should make a T-rex. Then UGOBE will look like big copy cats! And I agree with Robomom, this shouldn't be a compotition.

Y'know, i kinda like it. No offence, Ugobe. The problem taht I see is that they think it matches up to a Pleo.

LOL. It's okay, it's just that they think this can be compared to Pleo. I would buy one - given, not for $150. Then I'd really only use it so I could watch it 'stalk prey', kill my coffee table and couch, and go after people.
It's nothing compared to pleo!

ah, they'd have to really convince me it was really cool to make me spend $150 on that thing. if you ask me, I prefer real lizards. though I like pleo because he's pretty lifelike. pleos a puppy and lizard combined basicly.:-)
Yep pleo is a pulizard er... something.

Reminds me of 'Dino-Chi', a robot dino I had when I was younger. xD
I like the idea of facial movements, but it still has a long way to go before it can compare to Pleo for me. :)
Yes i agree. It reminds me of a stuffed animal chomper I had when I was three (incase no body knows who that is, it's a baby T-rex from the land before time).http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31UyTzwjw2L._SL160_AA160_.jpg

They'd play games, go off exploring, ram into CD players, attack and eat a variety of things, ect.

I like it's looks, myself. But, then, I love dragons and monsters. When I get my Pleo later this month I'm going to have to find him a little spiked collar and a black shirt so he won't feel intimidated by my other, less animated creatures.
I don't like that D-Rex's moods aren't autominous, like Pleo's. You decide for it, with the remote, what mood it's in. But I guess that's what I'd get at half the price of a Pleo.
Honestly, I want both. :)

Actually, you don;t need the remote. You could just throw the remote away, and its autonomous already! The remote is just a helpful extra. ;)

Well, I'm sold! Now I just have to wait until after Christmas, to make sure no one else is buying me one. :) Not to worry, I won't be using it to attack everyone's favorite herbivore. They can take turns terrorizing the cats. lol
