I could be wrong but from what I read from the download page it always mentioned 'blank SD card', so I took all my files on the SD card, put them into a folder on my desktop and just put the Pleo-Rex program on the card and it worked.

Im having troubles trying to even figure out how to make my MySkits work on my SD so I might not be the best of help :D ;

I've found that it helps if the behavior URF file is the ONLY file on the SD card when you insert it in Pleo. No other folders or files should be on the card. I did have to download it twice to get it to work. Probably my Internet connection.

When you say you have saved them under different names does that mean that you are renaming the files? You can't rename the files and they shouldn't be saved as Word documents either. They could be saved in the Word folder but if saved as a Word document it will change the file extension.

All of the behaviors and upgrades should be saved "as is" to work properly. :D

Since you mentioned that the downloads all show as Word file ".doc", your download from the website was flawed. The files are named with ".urf" as the extension. When you copy the file to the SD card or to your hard disk, you need to be sure that you're not changing the type of file. I only have experience with MS Windows and have wondered if Macs or MS Vista have issues handling the downloads. Are you using a Mac or a PC running MS Vista OS?

So we figured out how to activate the dramatic death sequence. If you touch the back sensor near the tail, the chin sensor and the top of the head all at the same Pleo will let out a loud scream and then fall to the the ground. Try it out.

I'm having the same problem as falseprophet666 - haven't been able to get the URF files to work since upgrading to OS 1.1. None of them work, not just this one. Before the upgrade I didn't have any problem with the Christmas or Valentines downloads but now I've downloaded all the programs for the new OS and Pleo just defaults to his OS. Yes, I only have ONE program on the SD card. I even tried formatting the SD card and then transferring the file to it. Still no luck. Any clues?

Update - I had downloaded the holiday URF for OS 1.1 and it didn't work. I downloaded the original for the old OS and it DOES work. I suspect Falseprophet666 and I have a problem with OS 1.1 not actually being in our Pleo's! I'm going to download it and try again.

This is one of the best downloads EVER! I love him charging forwards growling and roaring. That's totally different from his personality, it's fun to see him be evil once.

OK, that could be the problem. Try deleting everything else off your SD card and then put just the Pleosaurus Rex program on it. Let us know if that works. :)

Make sure it is the only think on your card. Nothing else can be on it. Just the one Behavior you are trying to have your Pleo do

Can you check the size of “pleosaurusrex.urf.txt" file? If the size of the file is too small, then it might not be the correct file. It might be the server issue and you may need to figure out some way to download the file “pleosaurusrex.urf”. But, if the size is around 1MB, then you can rename the file "pleosaurusrex.urf.txt” as "pleosaurusrex.urf" by removing the ".txt" extension and save it in the SD card.
Let us know if that works. :)

I have soooo many SD cards laying around that it just made sense to dedicate one of them to Rexy (sorry, got it from Night at the Museum). According to the posts though, the latest version of the OS can have other files on it, I'm assuming the active one just needs to be in the root of the card though. So, technically, the Administrator post made it sound like other files are a problem (unless maybe they aren't in sub-dirs and the files are sitting in the root???) although the Pleo should just be associated with certain file extensions and ignore the others anyway. In any case 1GB SD cards are going for like $12 at Sams, etc, and according to UGOBE, you don't even need that much, so my suggestion would to just make sure the OS is updated, get a fresh card, format it and just use it for Pleo.

Now, a question for the Admins. I'm an IT guy, so I'm a little confused. I understand that we put the card in to get our desired (temp) personality, and then it goes away, but is it accurate to say that we MUST only keep the one file in the ROOT of the card at a time??? If we need to go through the work of touching sensors in certain sequences (which are different for each personality) wouldn't it be logical to be able to have all of them on the card at once? (Love bug, T-Rex, Watchdog, etc). It just seems like it kills the mood if you show someone one trick, and then have to shut it down, take the card out, go to a PC (if you have one with you), move the correct file to the root, put the card back in, restart Pleo, and then go through unique hand gestures. I really get long-winded, but:

1. I haven't had the greatest of luck with all of the movements, but has an Admin definititively said that only one file can be active on the card at a time?? Or can muliple files be there, and the Pleo acts based on the file+the way you handle him?
2. If that's not the case, then wouldn't it be easier to have the option of using the same hand gestures all of the time and have the actions then only based on the card. I'd like to have my kid bring it to school, but he's not going to schlep a PC, and I'm sure the hand gestures are going to fail periodically for him or his friends.

As I mentioned, I'm an IT guy, so this is the way I think. I love the product, but I wanted to get some clarification and/or maybe toss out some suggestions. The great part about UGOBE is they listen to customers. (Wouldn't it be nice to get a couple of friends and go to a car manufacturer before they release a new car and just point out to the engineers the minor annoyances that they've missed in an expensive car that could make life easier?? - before the release it?)

I'm shutting up now , I love my Pleo, and just got one for my 30 yr old niece during the sale, who then had to buy one for her mother after she saw it. This toy pleases everyone from my 18 month old girl to my 55 year old sister-in-law.

I'm very strong on PCs, but in 25 years have only touched a MAC about 3 times (although they are awesome). As far as your problem, I know on the PC side, the files are pretty small. I can give you a few PC suggestions, and any MAC guru may be able to validate them (some have already come up in this thread):

1. Make sure the Pleo is at the right level of OS
2. There has been talk about keeping the battery out or waiting until it fully discharges before recharging it, but that's only a problem with certain types of batteries, and off-hand I don't know what's in the Pleo so it can't hurt.
3. Make sure the memory card is formatted (or cleaned) properly (so no MAC OS file are put on it, etc). Again, I don't know MACs well enough here. Under current Windows versions you can format in FAT, NTFS, etc, - don't know which you should use on the MAC.
4. Someone mentioned that they found the files on the cards were shortcuts. This would definitely be a problem especially if the shortcut points back to the PC hard drive.
5. My tougher question though is that does the MAC automatically save files with a certain extension if it does not recognize the existing extension? OR - if the file association for the PLEO file extension "associated" with another program?? Again, these are PC issues and may not be MAC issues, but for instance, could the PLEO file extension have gotten associated with another app (i.e. Word) so the MAC is changing the format or filename????

Going slightly off-topic, a side note to NJ Pride: I don't know where in NJ you are, but if it's South NJ, did you know there's a restaurant named Rexy's in Audobon, NJ on the Black Horse Pike (Rt 168)? Maybe you and your Pleo named Rexy need to stop by there for dinner. :)

Heck, maybe a bunch of Pleo owners can install Pleosaurus Rex and ALL head over there for a big dinner with our little prehistoric pals. :) That should entertain the staff to no end! Provided we kept wagging tails away from the glassware, that is. :D

Going back on-topic, SD cards are very inexpensive these days, especially the smaller ones like 512MB and 1GB. It might be worthwhile for a Pleo owner who wants to download several different behaviors to grab a few cards from their preferred online or brick-and-mortar vendors, and just store a behavior on each card. Then all they have to do is swap out the SD cards at will, when they want to demo multiple behaviors for family and friends.

Here's some official answers to NJPride's questions.

First of all Customer Support was impressed with some of the suggestions and will be sending them along to the Executive Producer.

But for now the way it works is that Downloads (The specific Behaviors) boot off an SD card. To avoid problems with SD cards it is suggested that:

1. You can only have one. .URF file (Personality Download) on the card at a time.

2. Having multiple files or other directories will only create problems, so we suggest owners just keep seperate folders on the PC and download the personality they want.

3. The other option would be to get some 32M or 64M SD cards and keep the seperate Downloads on each. Then you can swap out the Behaviors as needed.

Hand gestures are related to the personality. Depending on the personality (Pleosaurus Rex, The Watchdog Game, Love-struck Pleo), customers are expected to handle Pleo in different ways and Pleo reacts to those gestures. If you pet "Love-struck Pleo", it will like it but "Pleosaurus Rex" may not. So, using same hand gestures for all personalities may not sound logical. :)

Yes, it is possible to choose one of the multiple .urf files downloaded to the SD card but we have not implemented it yet. We may implement it in our future release.

We really appreciate your idea and we encourage everyone to come up with their suggestions and new ideas. We can talk about it and decide which features would make Pleo even better. :)

Ok, i've boiught an SD card, put it in to the slot in my printer and it came up in my documents fine when i downloaded it, so i copied the file on to the SD card and when i put it in and turn him on he's exactly the same with no change. Help please!!

I confess I'm also new to SD cards but can a printer "write" to an SD card or do they only read? Also there have been some problems noted that when the files are saved to "My Documents" the file extension got changed to .doc so you'll have to rename the file back to .urf.

My suggestion would be to check the content of the SD card and make sure the correct file is there with the correct name. You can make Pleo sit by holding his chin and rump at the same time. You will have to help a little by gently pushing down on his rump. You'll have to help him back into standing position when done.

You can also make Pleo sing by petting under his chin for a long period of time.

At the top of the page, click on "User CP" then from the menu on the left select "Edit Signature".

This will give you a window that looks like the one you use for posting messages. Whatever you enter in that window becomes your signature.

Almost anywhere, from computer stores to Wal-Mart. I've even seen them at some gas stations! Just look in the photo / camera area of the store. You should be able to find some under $10.

The majority of SD cards are standard. They usually just say "SD card" and the memory size.

Ok, stupid question, i know, but i just want to check this before i try out prex on Fossil. All of these downloads are only temporary, right? They'll only stay on the SD card, so if i don't like it, i can just take out the card and it's gone?

I tried out p rex mode last night and it's brilliant!! I'm so borrowing some lego from the nursery where i work and building a little model town, so Fossil can go on a rampage and smash the whole thing up!! :D My Dad didn't like it though, he thought it was freaky!! ~laughs~

Place the download on your SD card. Put the SD card into Pleo and it should work.

Hi stomper, sorry you are having problems.

Here are a few of the most common problems with behaviors.

When downloading make sure that you, or your computer doesn't rename the file.

After downloading remember to "unzip" or "extract" the files as the download is zipped.

When loading the files onto the SD card make sure there is nothing else on the card and be sure to copy all of the files from the behavior onto the card.

Make sure Pleo is off when you insert the card, then turn him on after the card is inserted.

Let us know if any of those work. :-D
