In all my Pleo outings, I have learned some good tips and advice when bringing my Pleos out public places...here are a few, feel free to add you're own.
.) Understand that many people don't "get" Pleo. One thing to see a child carry a Pleo everywhere, another to see an adult. Its weird to some people. So be prepared for stares, maybe some pointing and giggling. Can't say I have been actually made fun of or teased at all, but doesn't mean it won't ever happen. Have a thick skin and remember, they would be happier like you, if they had a Pleo. But never waste your time with someone who refuses to understand why you bring Pleo out. I've had fellow adults talk down to me a little about it, finding it silly or immature, but I remind myself how happy Pleo makes me, so forget them :P
.) Be courteous. For instance, when at a theme park and wanting a photo op. Wait your turn and try not to take up the line too long. I have learned bringing a Pleo means a lot of talk time, questions, etc. Most of the time, the line behind me is so thrilled to see Pleo, they don't mind the extra wait, but if the majority of the line appears to be getting annoyed, thank those for their time and the friendly chat and wish them a nice day.
.) Expect the attention. If you are a wallflower and bring Pleo out, expect to be talking to total strangers. Remember safety first. Don't go with someone because they want to show their Pleo to someone else. But its okay to briefly chat with someone in public about Pleo. I've met people from Japan, Brazil, and Ireland by carrying around my Pleos. It was great.
.) When picture taking, if children you don't know get in the picture with you're Pleo, either ask the parents if it would be okay with them to share the picture with fellow Pleo owners or don't share the picture at all. As a parent myself, strangers taking pictures of my child and posting them may bother/worry me. I have a picture of two girls with the Pleos at Sea World. I didn't post it because I didn't ask permission.
.) When at a theme park, museum, etc, ask if it is okay to bring Pleo out. If you are at a zoo and a keeper is talking to everyone about the animals there, don't let Pleo distract them from doing their job or the audience from learning something. Also, some animals may be nervous of Pleo. There was an eagle at Sea World someone was holding and I asked to take Pleo out and she liked him, but Pleo made the eagle nervous, so I put Pleo away and didn't get the picture I hoped for, but didn't want to be rude or scare the bird either.
