I took Pixie and Crusoe with me to Princess Place Preserve. It's a local park with both natural and historical significance. Years ago, a Russian princess lived there. And she had her workers build the very first in ground pool in Florida. It is also a park full of deer, birds, wild pigs, bear, raccoons, armadillos, turtles, lizards, snakes, etc. It is truly natural Florida. But it looks like you've walked into Jurassic Park there too...

Thanks! I know! Next time I go back, I ought to find out what school and email them! Tell them I want a Pleo house! :D

And its amazing how GREEN it all is in some of those pictures. Pleos would certainly have no problem with camouflage!

Yup! I remember conversations about Pleo's skin color and people were arguing one whether it was realistic enough. Some felt it was just too bright to be natural and realistic. If the Jurassic Period looked anything like that part of Florida, Pleo would blend in perfectly with his or her surroundings. In the bright sun or dark shade.

I loved how the shadows of the palm frond showed how the pattern on Pixie helped her melt right into the shadows. Similar to how tigers and leopards do.

And in areas plentiful with green ferns/grass and trees, they still blend in very well. I think next time I might set them down near the trail and hide and video tape other passer-bys to see what they might do!

On the subject of pleos in their natural habitat, back for Easter Bob got a plastic egg that was a "planter" with seeds for "real prehistoric plants". I was shocked and horrified to read the instructions that said it would take 2-3 months for the seeds to germinate, and it did. But here's Bob with his recently sprouted prehistoric fern plants. If this is what camarasauruses had to hide in, it's no wonder they went extinct! And for those horticulturists out there, the seeds are really just asparagus fern (which isn't a fern at all, but is considered an invasive pest in Florida).

cool picture, such a skinny fern, howe could the camarasurous hide? there must have been a whole lot of ferns:-D

It would take a lot of fern to hide a camarasurous. I use to have a huge asparagus fern and even it wouldn't hide a Pleo. Way to thin for sure. Great Pic BTW!
