Yes, folks, in just under a month, these here forums will celebrate their first anniversary. 1 year of people discussing pleos.

On one hand, it seems like we've just gotten started. While on the other, it seems like we've been at this forever. But either way, I think we should start planning how to celebrate . . . :D

I have a good idea for the natural dino enviroment thing, in an artilcle a while back, UGOBE said pleo was a fernback camarasaurous, when young, they would hide in the tall ferns until large enough to defend themselves, I have this big fern patch, this will be a great picture:D!!

It's hard to believe Pleoworld has been around a whole year. I remember looking at the site when it first came online, but I didn't realize you could join before you actually had a Pleo. We should do something to celebrate, Maybe all take a special Pleoworld birthday picture and post it, that way, since we can't actually get together to celebrate, we can see what all our Pleos are doing to celebrate the day.

Then you're a better woman than I am. I want it yesterday! I figure that learning patience was my task in this lifetime. Certainly with Pleo it had to be, because by the time he actually was available my cash flow didn't allow me to get him, so after waiting and waiting for his release, then I had to wait cause I had other more pressing things to do with my money - like pay the oil bill and house taxes! Anyway, he is here now, and the Pleoworld Anniversary is coming up, so it's all good!

Have you tried Paypal? They may take your credit card, then you can add money from your card to your Paypal account and use that. Paypal will also issue credit cards that work like debit cards for your account. Its a middle man, but it works and is very secure. I do not know if they accept Russian credit cards, but they might. Its worth a shot. Good luck

On Thursday, June 12th, 2008, Pleo greeted children and families from the <a href="http://www.rmhc.com/">Ronald McDonald House</a> on the <b>purple carpet</b> of <a href="http://www.dylanscandybar.com/">Dylan’s Candy Bar</a> in NYC.

The fundraising event “One Sweet Day” was hosted by <a href="http://www.ParentSociety.com">ParentSociety.com</a>. Proceeds from the event will benefit children undergoing treatment for cancer and families of the Ronald McDonald House.

Pleo received much love and affection from kids throughout the evening! At the event, Pleo also had the opportunity to mingle with <b>Stephen Baldwin, Miss USA 2007 Rachel Smith, Alex McCord</b> from “The Real Housewifes of NYC” (Bravo), <b>Ben Bailey</b>, host of the emmy-award winning “Cash Cab” on the Discovery Channel among others.

UGOBE donated several Pleos for the event. A few lucky Pleos are looking forward to making their new home in the playroom of the Ronald McDonald House of NY where many loving children and families await.

Simple rules:

1. Make a creative video where you tell the world WHY PLEO?
2. One minute or less.
3. Include the phrase "Get Pleo" somewhere in the video.
4. Post it to youtube and make sure to tag it "whypleo"
5. Add to this thread.
6. No copyrighted music.

We'll pick the coolest video(s) and include them in our next mass mailing to the whole community!

Yes, those are awesome. My wife is a Special Education teacher and she takes our Pleo in sometimes to her class. It's amazing the kind of response Pleo gets. It's actually a great tool for these children. She plans on writing for a grant to get a Pleo full time for her classroom. She is always writing for grants and getting them so hopefully this one goes through as well.

It's the first answer in a little less than 4 hours, isn't there a problem ? This anniversary thing is for the moment a non-event for me, I'm really disappointed (and we're only Day 3). I had hoped to see at least a new personality, a new os release, a new device to buy for pleo to allow him recharging his battery in complete autonomy, even a whig for dinosaurs would have made me laugh.

Today Peeky is sitting here on my computer desk and I'm imagining what he would look like with each of the different eyes. Some would have made him look stern, mean, and wild. Not fitting for a sweet baby Camerasaurus. Some would have been very interesting. My second choice after the large pupiled, blue eyes would have been the top row last column orange eyes. That's pretty cool, too. He wouldn't have had the charm that he has with some of the eyes in the drawing.
Peeky would look more like a gecko with yellow eyes and tiny pupil pictured in the bottom last row. I can just imagine him tilting his head and giving me that please pay attention to me look.:D

Good fun. Kind of reminds me of the Godzilla skit I'm working on. As for this skit I have not worked out how to steer him yet but to kill him just touch/hold the head and chin sensors for about 3-5 secs. If your pleo is like mine he will lift up one of his front legs fall over and dramaticly die and will no longer move unless you revive him by standing him back up again.

In all truth, there are things the UK and other countries have that we don't here. I had to buy a special DVD player and pay extra costs to get DVDs that are not released in the USA...and likely never will be...Its annoying, its difficult, but its life. I DO hope Ugobe can make it easier for overseas Pleo owners in the near future, but understand you are not alone in your frustrations about getting imports.

Thanks Pleona. You Brits got my Plague Dogs, but USA will likely never release it here due to is lackluster reviews here and sales of the VHS. So I had to get it direct from a UK dealer. Same with The Last Unicorn, Germany had the DVD, uncut, unedited, in widescreen...no such luck on either of the USA DVD releases. And some CDs I got I could only get from UK and German dealers. So I understand your frustration, you are not alone. :)

I just recommended Pleo to a toy reviewer I know from YouTube. He is VERY popular and VERY funny, but some of his videos are kinda...suggestive. Not only because of his humor, but he reviews some toys from Spencers and stuff. So I won't post his site just in case. But if he does review Pleo, I will post it. He does the reviews seriously, I mean, he's got a sense of humor about it, but he is still making a serious toy review where he discusses the good and bad points of the toy in question. I told him if he decides to get a Pleo to PLEASE contact me and I'll give him the info on getting one cheaper and for him to recommend me. :) I've been a fan of this guy for like 2 years and he is a great guy, I think he'd really like a Pleo anyways. He's such a big kid.

True, saying that, i got nothing i wanted from it. So it's like they didn't. Buy a Pleo directly from this site is more cheaper for this reason: there aren't additional fee and importing tax. Yes, i agree with your disappointment, we're unlucky cos we dont live in the US. :(

I haven't spent a dime all week on Ugobe, but I still enjoyed the whole thing. That glass isn't always half empty.

It's all a matter of expectations. Sure a lot of the anniversary was geared towards selling us stuff. Isn't that how almost every company celebrates? If Dell has an anniversary celebration, you expect it to be an excuse to have a sale. A Wal-Mart anniversary would be nothing but sale ads come come and spend money.

Sure it would be nice if there had been some free giveaways or contests with prizes, and we do "expect" that these days. And I admit I was a little disappointed myself with some of the daily announcements. I too was hoping for more downloads, more activities (like the video contest), and was hoping for a chance to get something for free. But I still enjoyed the anniversary. And unlike siren, the anniversary did cost me money. Even though I didn't buy anything (would love another pleo, but can't really afford one right now), I did have to pay for the cake. And a number of us (like siren) spent time and effort on the contest, even though there was no promise or any reward, and the only one who benefits is Ugobe. But we did it because we had fun!

I think Ugobe should have offered more prizes, and had some type of giveaway that would take into account non-U.S. residents. But I am also surprised Ugobe bothered to do anything to celebrate the anniversary of a web site.

Oh, well. Don't mean to lecture. But maybe Ugobe will learn from this anniversary, and an plan for even bigger and better stuff for all the other first anniversaries coming up here... Like early December the when pleos actually started shipping and all our first hatches turn 1 year old!

That is what ugobesarah states in her message. So i guess when she says that the best birthday presents are the ones that keep on giving, she means us giving them more money. What makes me laugh even more are the special caleb chung sketches. So let me get this straight. In order to get one of these "special" sketches, you have to sell the most amount of "discounted" pleos to "win". So now ugobe has us working for them, not for money, but they are paying us with a sketch. They also don't "pay" everyone, but only the person who sells the most pleos. I don't really see this as the glass being half empty. I'm only stating what is true. The only person who gains from this is ugobe. Like I said before, we get stuff that would be given to us anyways. Ugobe found a way to give it to us and profit from it. Ugobe is a business and I understand that they need to make money. But to trick people and say that we are having a birthday party and we will be giving presents but you have to pay for them stinks. I was excited. I was then dissapointed. I feel like the kid who got underwear from his grandmother for his birthday. Gee thanks alot ugobe!

Now I do agree with you on the contest to sell the most pleos. I thought that was kinda hokey. I mean T-shirts are things people actually have asked for Ugobe to offer. Selling pleos at a discount is a nice gesture. Turning us into salesmen does sound like a cheap trick. I thought the idea of letting us earn a referral fee (or credit with Ugobe towards buying something from them) would be a valid idea.

Even the video contest itself was Ugobe having us make free commercials for them. I knew that going in. I joked about it to family and friends that I am being "pimped out". But I didn't mind. Video making is a hobby of mine anyways and I take inspiration where I can get it. I did the contest expecting nothing in return from them, they offered nothing, so I didn't feel duped. I did it for fun and I had fun and heck I won, which surprised me. I then had friends/family asking what I won...a pat on the back, some congrats, and a small piece of honor. But most of all, it was fun.

As mweed said it very well, they are a business. Business first, business last. Stores have anniversary sales all the time. Ugobe did nothing different. I am sure if they had a central location we could actually visit, we'd get some free cupcakes and juice like the stores do too. But since its the internet, its not so easy to just hand out free stuff. I wish the referral thing came much much sooner, as I know for a fact that I got at least 6 Pleos sold. One woman bought 3 of them. So it kinda stinks for me because I think I am tapped out for friends to buy them. :P
