Pleo only comes with a charger, not any kind of bed. It's probably something someone bought for their Pleo.
The bed was a prototype feature on the first pleos (never released)
pleo had charging plates on each foot to charge.
It would of worked the same way i-cybie uses his walk up charger but pleo only has his IR nose sensor so it would been hard for him to find the bed.
due to this ugobe changed the design also charging time would be longer

I’ve hate to see a charging bed with the current design. All the images in my head of Pleo inserting his own battery seem slightly dirty.;)
How do the robot dogs find there charging stations? I was always under the impression that they used a camera similar to what Pleo has. But looking at the more recent Aibo stations they lack the bright colors other detectable objects have.

I think my Roomba uses an IR signal from its charging base to locate it, after it has vacuumed its way into a depleted-battery condition. So it's theoretically possible, if the charging base had a strong enough signal and Pleo had sensitive enough IR receivers, that it could locate a charging base. Of course, if the battery has to be physically removed from him in order to charge it, the point is rendered moot.
This makes for an interesting question, though... I wonder if/how Pleo will perceive my Roomba's charging base and virtual "wall"s, which use IR to prevent the Roomba from straying into rooms I don't want it to enter?
The more I read these forums, the more I can't wait for Pleo to arrive. :)

Hello.
Regarding I-cybie finding his charger:
From what I have read, the charging base has an array of 3 IR emmiters. They alternate sending signals and I-cybie is able to tell which way he is facing in relation to the charger depending on which IR signals he can see out of the 3. This allows him to home in on the charger.
