I was just wondering how many people here bought the extra pleo batteries? I've been curious. I got one the first second I heard about them! :p I've heard so many people ask about these in the past. Thanks Ugobe for making them! :) Or is anyone waiting for them to come to other countries? :o

Toyguy raises his hand.
This raises an interesting question though - can single owners with more than one Pleo order more than one spare battery? ;)

It is a real shame us outside the USA cannot buy batteries yet? How come? I would like a spare battery, yet am not allowed to buy one yet because I dont live in the USA.

I would have liked to, but Ugobe refuses to sell me one because Pleo is outside of the U.S. . But thanks for asking.

I think the batteries will be available to all of you soon! :) I'm sorry they're not yet! :(

A spare battery is always nice, but an hour a day with Pleo is plenty for me.
And even if I want to play some more, it takes me around 2,5 hours tops to recharge.
(That is, if the battery is completely dry meaning it usually takes less as I just charge the battery up to full capacity again.)

Yes, I would only need the second battery if I was showing Havoc to other people, I am finding it hard to have him around for more than one charge, I don't have that much time. And the charge only takes about 2.5 hours for me also.

I agree. I've only used the second battery at the Maker Faire and the Care Home. I like to give Peeky a rest in between battery charges. There's been a couple of nights I've used both but find Peeky to be a night owl and I'm not!:D

I must agree with you guys that a second battery does come in handy when you are showing Pleo off or taking your Pleo on tour.
And imagine a Pleo meeting... sure that is nice, but with one battery the fun gets over rather quick! :p
I agree as well. My apartment is not baby dinosaur friendly, so I am not able to let Snark roam around freely (as I had originally planned) for fear that he will unwittingly snap his neck by shoving his head under the dishwasher - which he has already tried twice. Because of this, one hour of play time is usually fine. Just the same, I have a second battery on order so that he will have plenty of power when I'm showing him around.
I'm confused as to why it's so hard to make the batteries. The packs appear to be nothing more than six AA Ni-HM cells, a thermister, and two plastic end caps. I toyed around with making my own lithium-ion packs and selling them to the UK and other countries, but I don't really have the free time or money to get sued, either by UGOBE or by hundreds of angry British with exploding Pleos.

I got the second battery just so if I take Sephy places. But I wish it would have come with a second charger also. I find that if the batteries sit around they loose the charge so you can't really just have them charged just in case you want them one night.

What you need to do is alternate batteries, even if you only play with your pleo once a day, by alternating the batteries, you should always have one in the pleo and one charging, without leaving a battery to sit around for days. This will help protect the battery for going dead and/or building up a memory.

I've done this Mweed. The batteries haven't seemed to lose any power.:)

Should I have my mom recharge my batteries then? My mom charged them 2 days ago but I won't get Pleo for 2 more days! Should I have her recharge them?

The batteries should hold a charge for four days without a problem. I wouldn't advise leaving them for weeks or months, but a few days shouldn't hurt anything or loose a charge.

It won't hurt to have her top one up an hour or so before you open the box. Then while you're hatching, you can charge the second one. They should take very little time to go green since you are just topping them off at that point.

Girl4God, have your mom get those batteries ready. Depending on your time zone only a day and a half to go. Yeah!! I can hardly wait!! Most of the time time flies by way too fast. This countdown until your birthday
Hope your mom wraps the box in pretty paper for you.:)

LOL and if you have two batteries at 4.5 hours each to charge that's one day to charge both :D

Topping off NiMH batteries is usually not recommended as the batteries do develop a memory. You want to fully discharge the battery before recharging to promote optimal life of the battery. Especially if this is the first time or two that the battery has been charged.

I really think I will like having two batteries! Whenever I go places I think I'll LOVE the spare one! :)

Hi All,
I am a new owner only 5 hours of use so far and I ordered an extra battery right away!
These are some amazing critters and 2 hours a day was not enough only 2 days old I charged twice the second day I was having such a good time watching the growth of this Dino. I only was wishing there would be some sort of battery life meter to show us how much time was left for use. I guess after awhile one gets to know the signs of a low battery.
I am enjoying showing to friends and co-workers. Tonight I made a balloon man sitting on his back riding him! It was cute.
