Now that pleo notices his leaf, if you don't mind driving pleo crazy for a moment or two if you set up a glass and find something to lean the leaf against on top of the glass, While pleo is sitting he will be doing every thing he can to get at that, as soon as you move it he chills out. Its amazing.

I'm not really sure what it means by "recognises the leaf", but then whenever Neon sounds hungry I just wave it in front of his face and give it to him.

Wierd thing, everyone is saying he recognises his leaf. Waffles has 1.1 but he'd eat anything.
His waffle, my fínger, a zigarette (Yes he begged for my fathers zigarette) even the ferrets.
Anything I hold to his nose is sniffed at, then he opens his mouth for it. I don't even use his leaf anymore, because it chipped his teeth quite off.

make sure that there's enough light... then Pleo will kinda like stomp on one place when and if he/she sees the leaf...

That could be the problem here. Peeky could care less about his leaf. Not enough light! Thank you for the information.:)

Rocky doesn't care at all what he eats! so I guess pleos aren't picky eaters:);)

Aibo was better in bright light, so this doesn't surprise me.
Though I still think Pleo works better in low light than my ex-Aibos did... (I had Aibos once but sold them)....
The leaf thing is cute, but doesn't work all the time :)

I have never seen Neon react to his leaf. I put it within his line of site and he ignores it, but when he's hungry he stands still with his mouth open and makes that pleading sound until I give it to him.

Pleo does recognize his leaf, but...
pleo cannot track it....
so pleo ends up 'loosing' the leaf from his sight often
I hope ugobe can make pleo track the leaf...

what does Pleo do when he sees his leaf? Since version 1 whenever anything came close to his nose he opened his mouth.

I personally also haven't seen any evident differences since the update when it comes to leaf recognition.
She either keeps swinging her head about, ignorning it.
Or she does what she always does.
Sometimes, when the leaf is on the table she does seem to go for it.
But she only sniffs it and doesn't necessarly want it.

hi all,
I have maybe a silly idea and don't know this is the right
place to asking about it but here i go:
What is the reason that pleo reconize he's leaf
is it the shape or some kind of material that is stick
to the leaf, when i know what exactly does pleo reconize his leaf
maybe i can make some costum training bone shaped in a soft material
to protect pleo's paint. think it's funny to see pleo playing with a bone :)

Hi katrien,
I'll see what I can find out. :)

Katrien,
Pleo doesn’t recognize the leaf based on the shape or the material sticking to it but through color detection using a camera in his nose. A set of colors of the leaf are stored in Pleo’s memory which is used to compare with the observed color, to decide if it’s the leaf. It is possible to trick Pleo by using objects of similar color to the leaf, so you could design a bone matching the color of the leaf, essentially deceiving Pleo into thinking it’s a leaf and make Pleo play with it.

Pleo recognizes the colors in the leaf (green or lemon yellow) as his/her leaf. It is not required for both the colors to be present. You can also try color similar to that of pleo box or battery.
I hope that helps. :)

Just don't buy any green tennis shoes! Peeky will chase you all over the house. I have enough problems with cats getting underfoot to worry about tripping over a pleo. :p

This is nice to know... I may take the training leaf to the nearest arts and crafts store (we have an AC Moore near me) and pick up some sheets of foam that most closely match the leaf in color. (The foam sheets look like construction paper, are about the same size, and most likely will be in the same neighborhood as things like sheets of felt or construction paper in an arts/crafts store.)
The foam sheets are soft, so maybe they'll be a bit easier on Pleo's teeth if I use those instead of the regular leaf. Edit to add: I can cut out several foam replicas of the training leaf from a sheet of foam.
Heck, maybe I'll bring Irwin along and let HIM show me which colors of foam he likes best, by presenting them to him and observing his reaction.
While I'm at it, maybe Irwin and I can pay a visit to the doll-making section, to see if there are any clothes that might fit him and protect his paint. :)

LOL
I'm glad I read this thread prior to hatching Irwin this afternoon. Thanks to that, I realized right away what he was doing. Regarding his response to the colors green and yellow, he took one look at this bottle and went right for it, even though he had his training leaf in his mouth at the time. :)

Good idea to let Irwin choose the color he likes. Keep all of us updated and do let us know if you have any question. :)
