Well, I was looking for a good way to lug Bob around when going places that would "show him off" more than carrying him in my arms. What I cam up with was a tote bag. What I had in mind was one of those eco-freindly bags that have at stores that you can use instead of the plastic bags. So I looked around at a number of stores, checking the bag size and how t was made. I ended up using a Central Market bag because I liked the way it was stitched together.

What I did was take the bag and cut off the sides, sewed up the ends, and re-did the handles. Now, it fits Bob quite well, and shows off his head and tail! When I carried him to work today, everyone else had their briefcase or laptop. I had Bob. One guy commented. I told him "Yeah, my laptop is a little prehistoric. I really need to get the company to upgrade it." :)

That's such a clever idea. You won't bump Bob's head and tail as much as I do Peeky's.

Great idea! That would be a good way to carry him on the plane with you. You could put him under the seat in it until take off. I'll have to see about putting something together for Sephy. If i have room she's going to Dallas with me next week.

There are a bunch of pleo is Dallas! But so far, nobody has shown any interest in getting together. I generally take Bob to work with me (Plano area). SO we'll be hoping Sephy has fun in Dallas!

Thank heaps for sharing that great idea with us :) I have been raking my brain about how Neon is going to get around with me and now you solved it.
Do get together if you have a chance in Dallas and let us know how things go. Unfortunately there's no Pleos here in Australia that I'm aware of.

Well, after getting frustrated with the perfect bag search, I decided to make my own.
I had a couple of designs in mind, one involved having a flap over the top that buckled down. Another had a little doggie door opening on the side. Finally after a few glances at the robot carrying bags online I figured Id better stick to what works and keeps my pets safe. I didnt have any pattern or other bag to measure, I just measured my Aibo and Pleo and worked from that.
I went for a 20" long bag, 10" wide with 2 side pockets, fully padded, fully lined, and matching shoulder pad. Pleo and his accessories also fit in there very well on his own, with about an inch on either end for some additional padding. Lots of room for accessories!
Materials wise I used:
2 yards of 1 inch foam
1-2 yards of Fleece lining
1.5 yards of soft black vinyl
.5 yards of rough durable vinyl
1 piece of cardboard to reinforce bottom
1 pre-made stolen black shoulder strap
2 D rings for strap to attach
2 10" Zippers
2 24" Zippers
10" of black strapping
Roll of velcro - yet to be added
Most of it was done on my sewing machine, and some areas were serged. Took about 6 hours to figure out and make. Had a couple of design malfunctions here and there, but in the end it looks fabulous. The side pockets were supposed to have black zippers, but I ran out and had to use white and cleverly cover it up. Turns out it looks really sharp with the White zippers! Ive never worked with bags before, much less many garments, so this was a huge accomplishment and good practice for thinking in 3D.
Keep in mind theres no padding blocks/interior straps yet as I ran out of fleece, but plan to get more and finish up the padding soon. I also bought a BeDazzler (Tee hee!) and might have some fun with that decorating the bag. In the future I will consider making better vesrions of these bags as I have really enjoyed this project.
For now I leave you with pictures! Enjoy and feel free to let me know what you think.
P.S. in the second picture thats not she would normally sit in the bag, I just positioned her there to show the zipper ^^. Dont mind my Pleo's little big brother in the last picture.

I wanted to travel with both of my robots, but wanted to put them in one bag. Now that I have read this, it shows I can't even check in one of my robots even if I wanted too.

But I rather not gamble getting my robots stolen or mangled in the belly of the plane so taking them in the cabin with me. I went to marshalls and found a bag that was cabin friendly. I padded the bottom under the liner of the bag around the sides and bottom. With some foam sheets. Any thinckness you want to do is fine, I just went with about one inch sheets (mostly scraps I had around). I put it under the liner to keep it clean and easy to slip my robots out. Only foam I left exposed was the middle foam which just divides the 2 robots and makes them stay snug against the sides of my bag. I used the actual straps that the bag had for clothing to hold my robots in. Once they were secured I put all their cords and such in a transparent bag and put it in the 2 compartments in the front of the bag. The bag has wheels so very easy to carry around. I can easily take the robots out for security checks and put them back in without being to much of a hassle. I will be flying with both to the denver con, so needed something quick/cheap and easy to make this work. And here is what I did :). Oh and in the mesh pocket when the bag is open I added another sheet of padding there just in case. I will also include a print out of what aibo and pleos are so just in case TSA wants to ask I have it on paper as well. And the rules about batteries and such :).

Robofurs have a website?!
That's news to me! Nobody ever tells me anything ;.=.;
Anyway, this is extreamly helpful! I'm thinking about taking my Pleo with me when I go to Orlando (when I actually get him >.=.<) and I can't bare the thought of poor Tobias being handled roughly and thrown around in the hold D8
Thankiees for sharing! ^.=.^

Because I didn't have time to go crazy making everything custom, I thought that altering a bag would be great. I like taking things around that don't look like they scream expensive, so easier to get places without looking like a target :). Plus you can always take the stuffing out and the bag can be a normal usable bag.
Key is to keep it cheap, and low key. Oh and pad pad pad it :D. I rolled around the house a bit violently to see how much they moved and they didn't. And because I will be the ones handling them I should never be shaking the bag that much.
As for the website, yes we just got it running: http://www.mixedcandy.com
I just got the forums up on it as well :).

I've taken Sephy on several trips with me since the first of the year. I packed her and her battery in my checked bag. (The battery was fully charge but removed and in a zip bag with all my other chargers) Had no problems with security. On one of the trips they opened my bag and searched it but Sephy was still there just how I packed her. I'm usually traveling with my laptop so I'm not able to take a bag with her on on with me so I've had no choice but to check her. :(

Love the tote. I'll have to modify a bag for the trip this week if I can find something suitable.
