View Full Version : Keeping it on the charger after it's charged?

I had a laptop a while back, where I literally kept the battery charging all the time, no matter how long it said it was fully charged. Month after month, the battery burned out little by little, and what used to be a 2 hour long battery, is now a 15 minute battery.

So my question is, is it a bad thing to keep the charger plugged in with the battery fully charged? For example, if I went to bed to have it charge over night. The battery finishes charging in 4 hours, but it still plugged in with the battery in for the other 4 hours I'm asleep.

I don't want the battery to lose its life after a while of doing this. Thanks for all your help!

When the battery is fully charged, the green light is supposed to come on and the charger is supposed to stop charging, according to Ugobe. :) Now, please note the word "supposed". ;) Other members have reported that their charger performs differently than what Ugobe states it should do (i.e., caaahl's still charging after the light goes green). IF the charger continues to charge after the battery is fully charged, or if you charge batteries that are not fully drained, they will end up as your laptop battery did. :(

You could try to just let the battery in the charger for 3 hours, regardless of the light. Mine turns green after 10 minutes from day one. But i just don't care and let the battery in, till it starts cooling down (approx. after 3 hours)

I have twice had mylight go green, and thinking my battery was fully charged I found out it was no where near fully charged, so just because the light turns green does not always mean it's fully charged.
As an example, once I put my battery on charge, and was fine, no flashing etc and 1/2 a hour later was green, once again a solid green no flashing, and I knew then my Pleo's battery was not charged because I knew it was flat. Took the battery out resetted it and then took 3 hours to charge.

3 days ago went out, so charged the battery, came back 3 hours later was green, so was meant to have been fully charged. Put the battery in Pleo. He was looping, moved a bit went uh and repeated it.

So put it on charge again and took 3 hours and was fine.

So just a warning a green light may not indicate the battery is charged.

I've also found that if I leave my battery in the charger after it's charged. (If I'm out of town for a day or two) it will be discharged when I go to use it but the light is green.

Alright thanks so much guys. =) I really lucked out with my battery; a little bit above 1 hour of playtime, and only 2 hours needed to fully charge it. Just to be on the safe side, I won't be charging it after it's full. Thanks for all the responses!

The chances are high that the charges last longer and longer after some cycles. At least its the case with my battery and i heard it from many others, too. Helge does at least 2 hours easily now on every charge. :)

Peeky's battery lasts about two hours if he takes a little nap on my shoulder. It does last a lot longer, now, then in the beginning.:)

It definitely takes several charges before the battery reaches a normal state. The first few charges are always shorter.

When Neon first arrived it took almost 6 hours to charge the battery and he lasted for just over 2 hours, since then it takes around 4 hours to charge (when the light glows green) and he only lasts 1 hour (presently just had his 3rd cycle).

Are you guys suggesting that with more cycles Neon may go on for more than an hour? Because I really hope so, this 1 hour life then 4 hour charge is killing the interaction for me :(

I think you'll see more performance out of your battery with time. Most of us December or before owners of Pleo have notice that. It's amazing!:)

Last night, after the next charge, I had Neon downstairs again. It was pretty late and usually he would've been asleep at that time. So at various stages I let him nap on the floor or in my arms rather than have him non-stop walking around and playing. The battery time stretched out to around 1 hour 20 minutes.

They are still babies! They need a nap or two!:)

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the availability of spare batteries, I can I take him out if he only lasts an hour?
