Hello!
Is it possible to find an adaptor to plug in pleo directly into the outlet and have it function that way, without the battery pack?

Any potential problems with this set up? (besides warranty being voided...)

I usually run pleo on my desk. I don't mind a cord dangling...

Thanks
A.

I know the USB port is not rated high enough current to power pleo, so you'd have to custom make something. There was discussion awhile back in the battery forum about this topic. The earlier prototypes were powered this way, and there is a plug buried inside pleo for power (http://www.pleodreams.com/node/5).

Look inside the battery compartment. On one side you will see a cable consisting of 3 wires, red white and black. This connects the battery to pleo. Your could create a cable and connect in at this point. Not sure what you would do about the white wire though. This connects the thermistor I believe.

I guess the big question here would be whether the thermistor in the battery pack is Pleo's only heat sensor? If so, not having it with a direct plug-in could lead to motor damage. If the battery thermistor measures only battery heat, and the body has its own heat sensor, then all you would need is the DC power in theory.

Yes it is the only heat sensor, but the majority of the heat comes from the discharging battery.

As mentioned the early prototypes had a power jack, and you can see the remnant spot by the serial port hatch.
Workarounds are technically possible, but IMHO more problems than they are worth. Especially with a more active Pleo, the power cord can get in the way.
You may be able to write a more passive personality so the Pleo doesn't walk away.
