I purchased my long awaited baby last week, and the very next day rang the customer services number to tell them that the battery was burning hot and it wouldn't charge for long without it getting too hot and the red light flashing, and also he would only work for a short while and then just suddenly stop as the battery was too hot, I had to keep putting it in the fridge to cool down, so they told me to get the voltage checked on the battery, so after going round the neighbourhood trying to find someone with a tester, I called them back again, and they said they would send me a new battery, and today still not having received a new battery, I had to take off his neckchain and heart name tag that I had specially made, and pack him back in the box and with a very heavy heart take him back to the store, as I couldn't risk him setting the house on fire. I paid £250 for him (approx $500, ) and customer service couldn't even send me a new battery enabling me to keep him, so shame on you tight wads at customer services.!

Hm, you should have notified us here for some tips. If I have my battery charging for more than an hour, it starts blinking red and it's burning hot. So what I do is I put a large fan right next to the charger (pointing at it though) and then it will go back to red and finish charging in another hour. I have to charge for 2 hours, and I get 2 hours of playtime. I'm up to 20 charges now and I have to put the fan on it everytime.

It should not get that hot you need a fan to cool the battery down while charging. If I where you i would contact support.

I can charge mine for 3 hours with no problems, and after it is charged the battery is warm.

The only problem I have had is at the odd time the green light may come on to say it is charged when I know it is not charged. I have had no flashing red, or green light.

Yes, using a fan to cool the battery while charging is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. There's a real major issue that's being covered up that really needs to be addressed. Besides a faulty battery that should be looked at while still under warranty, an overheating battery can be a safety issue!

I know it may sound bad, but I live in upstate New York in a college dorm where they are required to turn up the heat to full blast (until MAY!) to cater to everyone's comfortability. With my windows closed, it's well over 90 degrees in my room, so that doesn't help the battery in the first place being in such a heated environment. And you know how small dorm rooms can be, too. :p

Hah, I live in halls at my uni and we can change how much our rooms are heated whenever! I know that when I first had Rex, I put the charger near my radiator, so when I discovered why my battery was taking so long to charge, I realised what a stupid idea then moved it away. Just diverting this topic ever so slightly what do your dorm-friends think of Dougie, mine were generally accepting of Rex, but it's a bit of an odd think for a 19yo uni student to have in his room :).

Just another reason that these little guys are so cool. Can't take care of a dog or cat in a dorm room. That is most dorm rooms!:)
