Hi, I'm very new to this so apologise in advance for my mistakes. I just saw on ebay an ad for a pleo that said it included a ucube hatching egg battery & charger for all day use, and I would very much like to get one if it means I can have my new baby ( just 1 day old ) switched on for longer, could anyone advise me where I can buy one? thankyou.x
battery's are not on sale yet.
They may become available in april

Would this be for an ordinary battery or one of these hatching egg ones do you know?

The hatching egg battery chargers were designed for a special Li-Ion battery and was included with the first shipment of pleos to Taiwan (Ucube is the Taiwanese equivalent of the U.S's Ugobe). There were pictures posted here in the forums a month or so ago. But I don't think the battery would provide "all day" use. :p

My pleo only came with two batteries and chargers. Was thier some mistake. With the amount of life pleo gets out of a battery I would expect at least three batterys.

the battery charger egg shaped is very cute!;) do you know if the Li-on battery provide more activity?
Here's one on eBay (UK Customers Only)!

Oh, thats terrible and inexecusable. People at ugobe should be taken out back for that! A second battery would cost them practically nothing to, dispicable! If you only got one i'm so sorry.

blablablabla4 if you recieved more than one battery, consider yourself the lucky recipient of a packaging mishap. UGOBE let all customers know that Pleo would be shipped with one battery and one charger long before Pleo ever shipped and that additional batteries would be made available as soon as possible.
UGOBE is working very hard so they can offer additional batteries to proud Pleo parents. :)

I know you guys are working hard, but any chance that Ugobe will be offering choices on the extra batteries, like an another NiMH or Li-Poly?

An interesting discovery on a Dutch Pleo forum was made.
In Taiwan, there is a company called Ucube that appears to be the Taiwanese Ugobe (correct me if I am wrong.)
They have not only a much cooler charger for the batteries, but the technology is Lithion instead of Nimh and they let your Pleo run longer as well.
Please take note that you MUST buy a charger if you plan to get the battery.
The more advanced Taiwanese battery does not charge in the American cradle because it's a different battery technology.

Can someone from Ugobe comment on this?
The site looks big and legit and also has it's own Pleo owners userbase including Plogs and everything!
Would it be ok to order a battery plus charger there and make it work with our Pleo's?

Thank you Caaahl.
"To be clear, ucube is not UGOBE, but rather, a Taiwanese business partner of ours.", as according to Sarah.
But there is no further mentioning or details concerning the use of these batteries and the charger in our Pleo's.
Plus I saw a colour image of the charger.
The one presented in the other thread looks like a 3D render.
And on it next to the adapter socket it looks like it also has a USB kinda like socket.. weird.
I cannot confirm this detail on the real deal as I only have seen the front of a real one.
The Pleo bag looks very cool as well!

I have tried contacting Ucube, but have not been able to get a response.

I wonder if they'll supply outside of Taiwan? Goodness knows it would be the only way I could actually get hold of a battery

I keep sending them emails asking if they ship outside of Taiwan. I have yet to get a response. Either they can't read English, or the answer is "NO". :(

The Li-on Battery Charger (Egg) and Li-on Battery from UCube (http://www.ucube.com.tw/product.php?productpk=4) are nice. However, I am concerning about safety...
To my understanding, Li-on battery is much complicated compare to Ni-MH battery. Li-on battery charger is incompatible with Ni-MH battery, you can not use it to charge a Ni-MH battery.
It is extremely dangerous in case of electric controller failure of Li-on battery, over-charge of Li-on battery caused over-heat and even explosion. News about Cell-Phone explosion in the past... Scary!

Well there have already been reports of the current U.S. battery is burning up and melting. I have never seen a mobile phone explode and if I could get one of the batteries from Ucobe I would, because I certainly can't get one from Ugobe.
But in any case I'm putting my Pleo on the market.

I'm not trying to threating you guys ... :(
But battery recall happens all the time ... Ni-MH is much safety, and I am not going to use Li-on battery unless it's 100% safety garanteed.
FYI, Lenovo (IBM) (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=BATT-LENOVO) recalled notebook battery in 2006, Sony... and Nokia recalled BL-5C battery (http://batteryreplacement.nokia.com/batteryreplacement/en/) last year ...

Well I guess if it makes you feel better for a having a toy that uses an inferior battery type with shorter life span, memory glitches and longer recharge times than you should believe what you like :)
But just to balance things out a little here's some Ni-MH batteries that have exploded.

The Ucube Li-poly battery documentation does clearly state that the egg charger is NOT for use with the green NiMH battery and visa-versa.

The one thing that strikes me is that the egg battery is completely the wrong colour for pleo's belly. You would turn him around and see a grey/white square there - spoiling the illusion a little bit. I would hope that this photo is just a pre-production model and the battery is actually colour coded to match pleo.
Other than that - i am not technically minded enought to really argue with force any pro or con with the different battery types. A longer battery life would be good but I am getting about 1 - 1.5 hours on a 2.5 hour charge now. But extra batteries are on the offering for U.S. owners and Ugobe are working on extras for European and other users too.

Don't worry! Both the charger and the battery are colored since I saw a small picture of the real deal somewhere! ;)

Dear all,
I'm from Hong Kong. The Pleo comes with an order form which allows you to mail order the Egg Charger and the Li On battery. It also states that the Li-On battery would last longer than the normal battery. However it does not state that you cannot charge Li On battery with the original charger. I've checked Ucube's site and it does state that the 2 charges and batteries are not inter-changeable.
The Egg charger and Li-On battery are sold in both Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The web site is correct. DO NOT try to charge a Li-ion or Li-po battery on the regular charger!

Just scroll back up and review the earlier posts in the thread. The idea is that the Taiwan reseller of pleos is marketing a different battery than what is sold to the rest of the world.

Nice find!
I like the idea of the battery alternative so much, I brought it over to the "Suggestions for UGOBE" forum.
If this alternative battery is a good option, and especially if it lasts longer than the NiMH batteries, I would love to see UGOBE and Ucube make it available to Pleo owners in all countries where Pleo is available.

According to the order form, this new battery would last ONE hour longer than the original. That gives 2 hours of playtime with Pleo.
