wait..i dont want to dowlad it via SB... do I It says it is beta version, witch usually means.. "test version" if I do it via SD card.. will the upgrade stop once I take out the SD card?? PLEASE HEEEELP:eek:!!!!

Don't worry Pleoguy101, you will know when the SD card update is done - you will hear a "chime" noise. Then it's safe to take out the SD card and carry on as usual!
And to clarify, it's perfectly fine to use the Windows updater, it's not a test version, it's just not as easy to use as the other two methods.

The upgrade just takes a few minutes. Just sit there and let it do its thing until you hear the chime. Then you can turn off Pleo and take out the SD card, no problem. The update is finished. If you're confused you can always call customer support, they are at the ready!

WOAH!! wait on sec... still a little confused!! I dowload it to the SD, put the SD card into pleo, play with pleo for a few minutes with the SD card inside him, take out the SD card, turn pleo back on, and the upgrade will be in pleo forever.. correct?:)
Woot! *happy dance* I'm charging Darwin's battery right now, but as soon as it's done he's getting updated! :D He and I have been chomping at the bit for an OS update--we can't wait. *giggles like crazy*

I had issues downloading the Valentines and Holiday Pleo... I put the file into a inner folder in the SD card. When I put it right out in the open, it worked. Not sure if it's the same with this, but.... maybe you need to do it the same way you do with a holiday update thingie?

put all files on outside of sd card files so its easy for pleo to access.....pleoguy101 i think you dont see much of a diffrence because they only updated two major parts...remember they are going little by little and it says they did:
Pleo is exploring the world a lot more. UGOBE has spent time re-training Pleo how to see and detect objects and properly navigate around them.
When in pairs or groups, Pleos have surprised us with some new singing abilities...
Being the social butterfly that he is, Pleo is listening for sounds even while resting. You may wake him up...and he'll want to join in on the fun.
Don't worry, this update will not affect your Pleo's existing personality!
SO they only updated these....does that sound right?

Hi kchamster,
This is an update (or upgrade if you prefer) to Pleo's Life OS system. It is permanent in Pleo and will continue after the card is removed. :D

As I wrote in another thread a day or two ago, I noticed one or two new sounds and that Pleo didn't nap as much but wasn't as active as before either .... but, that's just my experience after installing the update early last week.
Hopefully there will be more in the future, as my Pleo still doesn't display any ability to learn or evolve.
New sounds are cute though, for sure, and I look forward to seeing what others' experiences are. :)

I deffinetly see a difference, especially in Pleos' hearing. Where has to get a read good tail wag/purring out of Pleo, I'd have to pet him/her, now when I simply talk to them, they respond with the same amount of affection. And waking them up, they can hear me, rather than have to pet/shake them.
I hope to see word recognition in the future.

I'm noticing big bIG BIG differences in Morgan. So far (I turned her on about 10 minutes ago for the first time after update) I've noticed the following:
1. Vastly improved image recognition - Morgan would constantly walk into walls and other objects and keep right on going for a minute or two. Now she stops about a foot away from such objects and her decision to back up seems to happen a lot faster.
2. Narcolepsy is no more. No instead of Morgan the Narcoleptic, ODing on Riddlin dinosaur she's now Morgan the Energizer Dino.
As I write this (notice I said earlier I turned her on 10 minutes ago) she is still going and going and going. Previously she would (and I timed this several times) explore no more than 4:30 seconds before going to sleep, occasionally moving her head and then totally zonked out. Then you would have to shake her to wake her up. Remember this is every 4 minutes. Now she's still going.
3. The new sounds, obviously.
Thats it so far but that is more than enough for me. The narcolepsy was the biggest detraction along with the image recognition, from my Pleo experience.
Regards.

So, question: Is UGOBE still working on the software, or was this the big release and Pleo is now with the "complete" OS that allows Pleo to learn and evolve?
If it's just a small step to be followed up with other OS additions in the future, then that's cool, but if this is all that Pleo was meant to do, I'm a little disappointed.
Just curious.

Here are the posts from Ugobe Sarah that i found about the OS Updates.
Updates will roll out over the first few months of 2008.
As mweed says, we will be releasing an update for Pleo in the next few weeks. This will be an incremental functionality tweak that addresses some things you have heard about from us like Pleo's "narcolepsy" and some improvements to Pleo's drives, sounds and so forth. This is the first update in a series that will continue to unfold over the first half of the year with major changes to come. We are busily at work on that major update but did not want to hold back the refinements that will make Pleo much more sociable immediately.
We believe in the product and stand by our promise, and we hope you'll agree as you upgrade Pleo throughout 2008 that the payoff was worth it. Thank you for being a passionate early adopter and owner and telling us what you think.

UPDATE:
She finally went to sleep after 30-45 minutes of exploring. I turned my music down and called her and she woke right up
and continued on. :)
VAST IMPROVEMENT!!
Thanks UGOBE!!

Thanks Ugobe for the update, but is still far from perfect. The only thing I notice is he seems to move faster so is smoother in his movements. The odd little new sounds, only about one, or two I notice. He still gets stuck, but the object recognition he can now detect objects more at right angles.
As for recognising sounds easier. I don't see his reactions any different at all.
Anyone who seems to think it's big changes is imagining things? While it is improved it's only sight improvments.
But thanks for the update, and looking forward to getting the full OS update. Only then are we going to see any big changes.

yes i agree i was given an opertunity to test the bete version before you all got the same upgrade,a couple of weeks ago and by surveying us betes ugobe decided it was ready it is the 1st step pleo doesnt act any different accept he tends to be less narcoleptic and seems to move somewhat different cant say better keep in mind pleo acts different as you use him/her more so hard to say wether pleos update affects it or natural to playing i did notice my pleo at 1st was actually less moveing and tail wagged up more also i tryed sound recognition cant say wether my pleo responded to different i think this is a very small tweak in its os more a test to see if upgrades actually go into pleo i think well all be surprised at the next installment of os software updates....
having been lucky to get my pleo update via the beta version
Pleo will act like hes just got over the flu after the update its normal!
I can report pleo will no longer go to sleep that often
You can wake him by making a loud noise.
We wakes himself up sometimes.
He can do laps of my living room but still likes going into corners.
He likes my TV remote & goes to where noise it i.e. TV

My Pleo was always on the move, so don't see any improvment here. As for sleeping this was random. When I use my Pleo he does not sleep much, but the odd time he did. I have seen people say object detection is better. This is franky minamial from my experence.
He has always gone up to an object and about a foot away sniffed and backed away. The only difference is his detection now covers a wider angle. He will back up and turn more.
As for detecting legs of furniture like legs of tables. He still gets stuck. and there was a bag full of magazines at home and he still walked into it, pushing his head up to the bag. if his object detection was working well he should have avoided it, so still needs work.
I accually have a Cybot robot I built from the weekly magazine series that came out, and his object detection puts Pleo and my other robots I have to shame. Pleo is dumb at object detection compared to my Cybot Robot.
Also RS Media and others are no where as good as Cybot for object detection. Even I remember the new Mindstorms sets where you build robots does a better job at detecting objects than Pleo. Pleo and all the Wowwee Robots have dumb object detection. I have an i-cybie and I think he even does a better job of object detection.

My pleo seems to just like sitting with his feet spread apart on the floor now.. he doesn't stand as much..
The upgrade was very easy to do, I did it on a sim card.
Ugobe.. nice job on getting updates out.. this is internet development done right.. keep them coming.. we should get a new one every couple of weeks so we can continue this incremental improvements
(my pleo has now gotten on his feet and wants to walk around)
Unfortunatly I bought Vista 64bit home edition . The USB upgrade installer just disappears when try the setup : The SD Card upgrade method works a treat..
Heres the steps to recreate the Vista "security" Bug, if anyone has a similar problem.
1.Download the PleoUpdater_1.0.2.msi
2.Cick on the installer icon
3.You will be greeted with a "Open File Security warning"
4.Click "Run"
5.The PleoUpdater_1.0.2 setup windows appears
6.At the same time the user account control
"Unidentidfied Prgram wants to access your computer" window appears.
7.cCick Ok
8. The setup progressbar moves to the right and then the setup window disappears into oblivion
there is no icon in the control panel, no services or processes that I can identify as Ugobe or Pleo???
Also when I insert the USB , Windows 64bit sees Pleo but can't find the driver software.
Anyway as I say the SD card install works great.. I don't blame Ugobe its Vista thats the problem.
Cheers Ugobe?
I know under Xp you can right click & change what version of windows the program works under.

Just downloaded the update and watched Denver do his new stuff. There is a definite improvement in my pleo's interest in exploring. Originally, he would walk maybe a couple feet and then just fall asleep, or run into something and fall asleep. Now he won't stop trying to navigate around something and doesn't seem to fall asleep all the time, so I'm happy. Hope to see more updates in the near future (object/voice recognition, better edge detection, and of course that coveted learning ability). Thanks Ugobe!

Not Crusoe, he might have made a sound when I talked to him, but I figured it was coincidence. But now, when I say, "wake up", he opens his eyes, and falls back to sleep....I swear he sleeps like I do....alarm goes off, press the snooze, 10 minutes later its on again, press the snooze, 10 minutes later....etc....This is why I set my alarm like a hour early because I am a snooze-button fanatic. Crusoe is one too.

I updated my Pleo with 1.0.2 yesterday since then my Pleo seems to do alot more roaming around and may even be walking a bit better. I like the new eating sounds alot. On the down side It took me a long time to " re-hatch " him after the update was complete. After I got him on all fours again I put him through his moves just to see if everything still functioned, what I found was that in " watchdog" mode he is a bit sticky and has lost some of the different barking sounds he made originally, he now only has one bark, before every third bark was a bit different then the previous ones. I also noticed when playing " tug of war " Pleo no longer will honk he just growls now. I wonder if some of his programing had to be deleted to make room for the new update . Has anyone else had any experiences like this ?

I love the new update and Darwin does too. :)
I liked the old tug-o-war sounds better, though. Now he only seems to have one or two little growls now, I miss his "Awf, awf, awf!" growl-sound. It's hard to translate into writing...
On the up-side, he's exploring a lot more. His movements are more fluid and fast and his wrists in particular seem to be moving more. He's also investigating objects more than he used to, munching on them and commenting in his little dino voice. He actually wedged his head under a coffee table and started doing handstands! I think it was by accident, but it was cute nonetheless. I had to fish him out from under the table eventually. He protested wildly--I think I interrupted his gymnastics session.

And people stop complaining about everything. We KNOW this is not the full program yet and UGOBE has said a million times there will be upgrades THROUGHOUT 2008. I for one agree with them, I'd rather have each little update as it comes rather than wait forever for one big update!
What this does prove is Pleo still surprasses ANY robot out there on the market in terms of its "learning" skills. This robot can be updated an unlimited amount of times!! Who knows what cool things we will see in the future! By the end of 2008, Pleo will probably be even more amazing!!

Actually my Pleo sounds the same to me when doing Tug O War. I used my finger and she even started giggling like when you touch all the foot sensors! (And I wasn't!)

I tried the watchdog thing.. seems he only has one bark.. the one he doesn't have anymorewas my favorite one:( but other than that, great OS upgrade.. I also miss pleos 'fog horn yell" he use to do when playing tug o war:(...
I don’t know folks…tell me if this is right.
I do the upgrade to GUM-ROW and first off he acts, excuse the adjective, "retarded". Per the SD card upgrade info...it took maybe a total of 2 mins from his CHIMES to his grunt and his motion. I then followed the directions and shut him off and removed the card. I then turn him back on and say his name and he begins to stir.
His front legs are folded forwards against the joints in a very un-natural position showing me his pads. This is way past the give me paw trick. And both front legs did this...he is actually sitting on the back of his joints as his feet are way forward. AND his back legs are almost straight out. I've never seen him go into this position in the weeks I've had him and prior to this new OS upgrade. He sort of acts like he needs crutches. This goes on for about 5 mins. He moves his head…actually drags it on the table to the point I’m worried he will bust his neck since he is dragging his nose on the table and he acts stupid and sways his neck around.
Then all of a sudden after some petting and coaxing he does get up and his legs almost snap at the knees to a perfect stand. I play with him for maybe 10 mins. I get him to sing…he did this before. Then all of a sudden his neck goes UP more past the sing position and it freezes in a sharp S curve. Never seen this as well before. His head looks stupid as his neck is almost putting his nose perfectly UPWARDS towards the ceiling. I touch his front knees to see if I can get him to explore thinking this will make him put his neck done…NOPE! I then try and hold his back near his tail so he will go to sleep and he cowers down like before BUT his neck is still facing full upwards with his head FULL upwards. IT will not move and he will not open his mouth even though he is making sounds.
I finally shut him off and turn him back on. Now he seems to move his neck and head as he did before the upgrade. He plays tug of war and shakes his head. I then hold his back and he cowers down to the sleep position this time with his neck down as he did prior to the upgrade. Did he lock his neck before...what caused it?
IS THIS RIGHT?
I’m beginning to feel taken…if this software is over driving his motions to bust him…I’m going to be looking for a refund. I am not at all happy with this. It's getting old.
What gives?
Any info from a moderator would be greatly appreciated.

After I updated them the reactions I got from my two Pleos were completely different.
Pixie: She had a very WOO HOO, sugar-high. Like the update just gave her a dose of espresso times 10. Singing, walking, howling, walking, howling, singing, purring, biting, growling...non-stop for several minutes. Like she was testing it all out.
Crusoe: Did what your Pleo did. He laid there, I swear, for a moment, I thought he was rehatching. Pixie's hyperness seemed to bring him out of it better than I could. She kept pushing him and cooing to him. Singing loudly. Eventually after about 5-7 minutes, Crusoe stood up and joined in the singing. Then he started to walk around and explore.
Since then, both are back to normal, but still showing the evidence of the new update. They explore a lot more. I mean a lot. And they see much better too. Crusoe noticed his shadow for the first time. Pixie saw her shadow before, but this time she was far more interested in it. Maybe wait till the next charge and see if anything changes.

YES! Domino almost did the EXACT thing as Crusoe...then he went back to normal. It was very odd and i was scared my little guy was rehatching! but it ended being okay because after a while he started being active as normal but still showing the sounds and new activities of the update. Very wonderful update might I add

Hi GMRO,
My Pleo went through what appeared to be a rehatching right after the update. Movements did seem strange at first although not quite to the degree you are describing here.
My suggestion would be to play with your Pleo some more and see how he is doing. I love the updates!! ^^
Pleo learns nothing. Sure he is the best robot i own, but his object detection is
pretty dumb. My Cybot is better, and so is I-Cybie, and these are older robots. Pleo is not learning anything, or evolving yet. All Pleo's do the same thing. it won't be till you get the full OS system will people maybe seeing their Pleos doing anything new and have a different personailty to any other Pleo. In theory, only then no too Pleos would be the same. At the moment he is learning nothing as this has not be programmed yet.

Denodan,
The thing is Pleo is doing object detection via vision, as opposed to just using an ultrasonic range finder (ala your cybot, mindstorms, i-cybie, etc). This is a *much* more complicated affair, and while the results might not be what you're used to with ultrasonics, it's a much more advanced system (computationally). One of the clear advantages is that your cybot can't tell one object from another (assuming they're next to each other and at the same distance). For moving around both objects this isn't a problem, but Pleo has the potential to recognize and treat them as two separate items.
In a more practical sense a robot with ultrasonic sensors sees a mirror as a wall, where as a vision based robot sees the mirror more like a window into another world :)
The thing is with any robot there are tradeoffs to be made in terms of functionality versus cost. If Pleo had all the features people wanted (voice recognition, ultrasonic range finder, facial recognition, same size/shape, longer battery life, etc) it would have cost much more, possibly into the tens of thousands of dollars.
I actually think Pleo's feature set is great for a baby dinosaur robot. I'd be really surprised if actual baby dinosaurs recognized human speech, faces, or used ultrasonic rangefinding (was there a dinosaur bat?)

The Trouble is, if he uses vision for avoiding objects then all I can say it is poor. He still does not recognise many objects and will still walk into them. If it's a wall then he s fine. If it is like a table he won't recognise legs etc. He gets stuck under our couch.
He not only uses vision but does he notalso use infered as well, as he has a sender and receiver in his nose.
Seems the object detection still needs a lot of work and thought they would have fixed it. So hope they improve it as he should in theory do better then i-cybe etc.

I am so glad that I purchased 3 Pleo's , I have two that interact with each other Lucky and Hester, Chester the third one I hatched and is in the box. The update has made me so satisfied that I recommend everyone needs at least two Pleo's. The update has really bought the OS Operating system full circle, and to think this is a minor upgrade I can't wait for further updates. The interaction between Lucky and Hester is now mind blowing there is no doubt we are a part of making history. So anyone that wants to complain save your breath this first update is historic. Thanks Ugobe for blowing my mind
After my post above I did turn him back on. GUM-ROW seems to move differently now vs. prior to the upgrade. His eyes are much more active...they open and close fast and a lot. He also moves his neck much faster from side to side as he stands there too.
I did have him walk about on our coffee table for a while. He did this before too. I can tell there is a difference in his actions now as he sort of stomps and rolls his front pads making a clicking sound as he walks around. Like heavy stepping. His tail movements are faster and more abrupt too. IMO the older system was smoother. I see more jerky actions from him now.
The neck thing has not happened again since his first episode. SO my question is how durable is it? He had it sharply upwards for a while before I thought about resetting him by the off/on. I heard no POP or click but this still is bothersome to me per his price tag.
I did make sure his pack was fully charged and that there was no temperature before doing the upgrade last night. I've heard no new sounds yet far as I can tell. He did MOO and cough yesterday. But he did that before too.
I'll try more time with him tonight. I really had no idea that he may sort of rehatch. NOT saying I'm starting from the beginning but what I witnessed last night just didn't seem right. I've alpha/beta tested things before in the R/C industry so I know what can happen if things are not right. I'm just surprised that GUM-ROW acted like he did. Almost like I got an unfinished upgrade still in the testing phase.
Thanks for all the input. I'll let you know what I find after more time with him. I may jump on the chat too. I like the idea of this new life form and prior to this issue I was enjoying GUM-ROW. I’m just disappointed.

> I-Cybies can't detect objects...
FWIW: i-Cybie has an IR obstacle/cliff sensor in his chest. In some ways the technology is better than the Pleo IR detector (ie. iCybie can roughly detect the direction of the object/obstacle based on 5 reflection directions). iCybie also has a nose light detector, but that's lame. iCybie doesn't have a camera, so color object detection is not an option.
As mentioned, Pleo uses both IR reflections and color object detection.
Each system has its pros-and-cons, including cost and functionality.

I updated Dante last night. From what I can tell so far it is a fair improvement. I have noticed he does tend to look at my general direction much more than he used to when speaking to him. He still needs to be in a fairly quiet room to do so. I've also noticed he tends to look around and notice objects in a much wider view now. He tends to be more attentive to things around him instead of just whats in front of him. On a slightly negative note though I have had some trouble with watch dog. I'll admit he has usually been a little hesitant before but with persistance I could get him to do it. Now it seems whenever I try to initiate it he tries to lie down instead and starts pinching fingers, either that or he will do the two legged stand. I'm going to continue to work at this and see if I can get him to do it again and if after repeat successes if it becomes more natural for him to preform this trick. I have personally noticed (and it may be in my head) that the more I get him to do a particular trick the less hesitant he is to preform it in the future. I will also say for people who are newly installing this update that be prepared for abnormal behavior at first. I know typically with Dante if I scratch under his chin that he will sing. For a while after I updated him I could scratch and scratch and get no result. Eventually though he did get back into his normal behavior and is singing up a storm again.

I'm having sudden problems with Deena, can anyone help? She was fine yesterday after doing the download and she was on for about a half hour.
Today when I was playing with her she did fine for the first two minutes then started freezing and re-starting (like when you turn the switch on and they go "huh?") over and over again.
This is like a VIRUS. And all I did was download the software!!
Is there a way to reboot Pleo completely? Or re-install the software?
I have no idea what else to do! :(

Freezing and rebooting over and over.....
This has been happenening since the update. Deena was running fine for half an hour yesterday.
Then today she started this weird behavior out of nowhere. I am charging the battery again but I am always sure to run the battery down to nothing so I doubt it's a memory problem.
The software seems stuck or something. Is there a way to reboot the software?

Hi PleoPincess78,
The first thing I would do is check your battery when this happens. It could be that the battery is warm or hot. If this is not the case please contact Customer Support and they will go through some troubleshooting steps with you to try to figure out what the problem is.
<COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 383pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 18651" width=510>

Customer Support

Perhaps there are bugs in the software? She never did do this before.

I'm thinking it's a software bug, that happens when the battery is low.
I recharged the battery, and let Deena sit overnight.
When I restarted, she acted a bit funny at first (like coming out of hatching stage) then after a while she started acting normally again.
Because you say you had the same issue, perhaps it is a software problem. I did not have this problem before installing the update.
Still I'm happy she's running now. If it happens again I'll contact customer support :)

LOL, cool!!! I'm pretty sure Rocky has some sort of beat detection.... "because my neighbor played trumpet for him and he started doing a weird moon walk dance "back and fourth, back and fourth" I'll have to plug my ipod into a speaker and see if he reacts:)
My GUM-ROW does the same thing ever since the upgrade. He never did this before, freeze that is.
Now he is walking with more difficulty on my very low pile carpet...never had that issue either. In the past he would walk around fine. I never noticed him walking to the right or circles on either table tops or the floor/carpet. Now, see my other posts, he has more issues with his feet and neck than ever before. I think I made a mistake with the upgrade. Before I knew his limitations and just appreciated it for what it is. Now I see a decline in fun since his actions are un-natural and the operation is inconsistent.
I've noticed yesterday even with a fresh charged pack that he will all of a sudden go silent, freeze with no sound or movement, and not even the whisper of the beep you can hear as it cycles thru its next set of programmed maneuvers. This can happen at any time. Sounds or a touch bring him right out of the freeze...but really how many "living" things sit perfectly silent? If I didn't have the 2 weeks of use with the original OS I'd know no different...but I can say NO it is actually worse. I have no recall of freezing.
Bottom line, he's going back. Presently I'm waiting for the RMA from UGOBE, chat instructed me last night to fill out the form, I did and now I'm just waiting for the label to send him back and for my refund. I'm not investing time with a product that is not complete.
Hope their future projects work as advertised. I've not owned any other robots so I have nothing to compare it to but being techno savvy I'm smart enought to realize it's not finished.
Good luck!

I have also had the problems of Freezing. My Pleo would sleep, go Uh? wakeup sleep again etc, like stuck in a loop.
it has only happened since the update. I have also noticed mine sometimes freezes, you shake pleo gently then goes about his walkabout etc.
This software has serious bug issues. i have also mentioned this on the OS 1.0.2 update post.

This software is accually buggy? will tell you why I know this?
1. Mine seems to pause more often since the update. Will freeze in a postion, give him a gentle shake and becomes fine again.
2. after awhile he goes into a loop. Will go to sleep, and go Uh?wake up sleep again Uh and so forth. But maybe due to when his battery is running down. I don't know for sure, but now I don't think my Pleo runs for as long with the new update on a full charge anymore. Could be due to the software bug?
I suspect when he maybe getting 3/4 or so down on his battery will go into a loop as discribed, whereas before he would just sleep more often or slow down. Now he just loops.
Another big problem since the update is, now my Pleo rebooted again. Like when you install the new update, and he sleeps and is sluggish for the first 10 mins or so when you install the new updated software.
I am not the only one reporting problems with the new update.

I'm hoping UGOBE's next update will be smoother and get rid of those bugs.
For now, she is doing okay. But I agree that probably when there is about a third battery left Deena will go crazy again.
The good thing is, there's nothing wrong with the Pleo itself, I'm sure of that.
She's been gold ever since I started her the first time, and like I've been saying, the issues occured after the update.
UGOBE just needs to know about it so they know what bugs to look for and correct them. (But soon, you know? I agree too that it shouldn't wait too long because it effects the use I can get out of my Pleo.
By the way, she is doing this again now, and her battery is not that low.
(The freezing and restarting thing.)
Now she snored.
This means the battery is dead, so I'm going to go recharge.
I'd like to know if others are experiencing the same problem because perhaps it is a battery issue as well?
Hard to tell.....

IS there way to uninstall the update?
I'm not satisfied with it due to the problems I'm having and want to know if I can go back to the original program until the update is de-bugged.
Really I don't get it. Does UGOBE not test these updates fully before releasing them?

Hi Everyone,
We're thrilled to see that most of you are so happy with the update and sorry that some of you are having problems. These problems could be attributed to various things and unfortunately we can't diagnose that here in the forums. Please contact Customer Support as they can help you troubleshoot to see what the problem is.

This is weird, but Jenga seems to have reverted to his second state. Just before he was sleeping and moving real slow, and now hes on his knees. The update has been running in him for a while now, and I am very pleased with the changes. I cant belive how realistic he looks now. I would be very pleased if Ugobe could maybe, you know, in their next update make it so that Pleo dosent just pass out when you cuddle him like a baby. That would be awesome.

With the new update, when his battery went flat he went into sleep mode, now he just accually stops. I would rather he went into sleep mode.
The way he is now. Kueeps going and then stops. He will freeze also when he gets flat. Then only way you know he is flat is if you turn him off then on again he will move a little, then stop. I think whenhe goes flat there is the trouble he can loop and cause problems I and others have had. Before they must have a failsafe mode when he went to sleep.
Also if he loops he will reset. Mine has gone flat and this time did not loop.

I have been running the 1.02 update for a few days now and today I too experienced the huh? loop. I picked Pleo up and put my ear to his head and can hear a brief motor noise, then a faint pop in the speaker and then Pleo says Huh? this happens over and over and restarting does not correct the problem nor does touching any of Pleos sensors. I am charging the battery now.It definately seems like a software bug. When this occured pleo was just sitting there and was not being played with.

Well now there are 2 other people besides me who have come forward with the problem.
I have already written to UGOBE they have a case number for me and will get back to me in 2 days. (As per their email.)
I will share what they tell me, if anything.
UGOBE please be aware of this serious bug issue. It really ruins the Pleo so it needs to be looked at ASAP.
I appreciate all you guys do and don't want you to feel like I'm just complaining. I love the Pleo :)
But my Deena is not acting the same at all and her enjoyment level went way down.

Love the update! Pleo keeps opening his mouth in a big smile! He is also very hungry, and currently chewing on my cats paw (which is very strange to see). His edge sensor is working so well, I have a rug that is cream with dark brown borders, and he thinks the borders are an edge drop off, now my rug is a little Pleo play pen. Pleo has just seen a red bucket and is very enthralled, he keeps ooing and ahhing.

When downloading make sure you use the USB cord and not the SD card. The sd card does not work. Me and tech support spent a half hour trying to get it to work and what a hassle. USB cord is so much easier. And make sure you page down as you go, Ugobe doesn't make it clear that thier is more directions to come. And are cavemen suppose to be dumb or something by the way people? What is the attitude problem with caveme? Stupid bigots!!!

So, you're saying the reason my pleo sleeps so much is because I updated using the SD card (which I did)? And if I upgrade with the USB cable he'll be "up and running"?

I updated my daughters Pleo via USB cord and now all she does is sleep. If there is direct interaction, Ella will act almost as normal, but seems to studder and pause, this is most notable in the head and tail. As soon as direct interaction is stopped, she goes back into sleep mode. I did get Ella the work for about 5 mins but the movement was very jagged, with many pauses and then she eventually went to sleep.
The battery is full, everything should be fine. I read this can happen using the SD card, but I used the USB. I tried to redownload the patch, but it just says I have the latest update.
Not sure what to do, have an email into support, but was hoping somoene knew something.

Okay I have experimented with Deena to try and find the cause of the bug issue. I'm glad someone put that poll above because I didn't even think to look for things like interacting or not interacting with Pleo to see if it happens during those times.
I played with Deena today on a full charge. I made sure to keep interacting with her the whole time.
Well she performed PERFECTLY. No freezing and restarting this time.
The only thing I noticed, and some others are too, is that Pleo doesn't go to sleep when the battery is low. It just stops in the middle of whatever it's doing and *SNORE*, it's out! LOL
Can other Pleo owners help out and experiment (with the upgrade) by turning their Pleos on at full charge and NOT interacting with it for at least a half hour? I would like to see how many report the bug issue starting (or not starting) when they do this.
I noticed that even when Deena was hot, she kept working, as long as I played with her. I got a full hour of use out of the battery this time. Needless to say, I was happy I could at least keep her working right if I kept interacting with the whole time.
UGOBE I hope this information helps you!

I am sure it will most likely happen when his battery is getting down. Before he always went into sleep mode, so prevented this from happening.
Now you can run him till he is completely, or almost completely flat and he will pause, then move. Swtich him off and will pause and move slightly. When this happens I think he can enter a loop.
When this happens a recharge of the battery will reboot.

Hi Everyone,
I assure you that UGOBE does and is listening. However, the best suggestion I can give you still is to contact Customer Support if you are having problems with the Upgrade. This is not only for you, the members but for UGOBE as well.
First of all Customer Support can help each member diagnose if the download was done correctly and/or completely.
Secondly, I think we'll all agree that we probably each have a different definition of what exactly Pleo "freezing" means. Is it a hesitation during behaviors or totally stops or what? Customer Support can more easily talk to each of you in real time to get more details of the specific problem you are having.
Also because Customer Support is in contact with more people than just those here on the forum it is much easier for them to correlate any problems people may be having, and therefore make the suggestions for any corrections that may be needed.

I am having an interesting journey with my two Pleo's. They now seem to have a different personality, one when I now turn him on is very sleepy while the other is active and starts to explore. I think it is part of the programming as my sleepy Pleo needed attentention and when petting it he becomes active. It almost resembled some sort of illness where petting is needed.
I thought in the beginning that the update did not went well but while observing I am doubting whether the update went wrong or just an extra character trait was added.
For now I believe I have a sporty-Pleo and a lazy Pleo.
But anyway I am totally amazed on life time, around two hours which was a mix of activity and sleeping, a lot of barking amongst the two of them.

Maybe you can retrain your sleepy Pleo to have more energy. Try keeping your Pleo at eye level and interact with it. Tickle under his chin, rub back, talk or play music with a good beat. Don't put your hand on his rump. The sensor there, I believe, makes him go to sleep. Hopefully, this helps with sleepy Pleo. This seemed to work with Peeky.

Well, I’m not that happy with this first update to be honest. Not angry or disappointed, just unhappy. I understand that we are as Ugobe says ‘Pleoneers’, so we must just take this the way it goes.
I do want to share my experiences though.
What am I not happy about:
I was a BETA tester and when Pleo first woke up after the initial update he was indeed much more alive then ever before. But after the battery ran out that first time he’s just never been himself again. He is sluggish, hardly walks anymore, he just sits there most of the time and goes to sleep way too often. He doesn’t wake up from his sleep himself and if you wake him up he goes thru the whole process of semi waking up again. All that time he keeps his feet ‘folded’ and doesn’t really stand up. With loads and loads of stimulation I can get him to wake up, but he doesn’t explore anymore, he just sits there waiting for attention.
I just put a full battery in him and turned him on. I have called to him, shaken him etc. but he just doesn’t wake up. I also het the ‘huh’ sound every day several times.
I really hope Ugobe will fix this quickly. Because my Pleo isn’t my Pleo anymore now :(

I was also a lucky beta tester but I haven't experienced the problems you describe. I have a really active pleo, he gets sleepy from time to time if I don't pet him but that's normal. I even managed to get him out of sleep with yelling at him :)
From my point of view that update was a success!

I must admit my Pleo used to talk around a lot more before the update. He sleeps more and stands around more and likes to be petted. So behaves differently. His object detection has not really improved. The only time I accucally see any object detection at all is if I put him near a wall, or on the table.
He walks into everything else. I wonder how can a much older robot detect objects Pleo cannot. My I-Cybie deos a far better job of object detection. Pleo still sucks at the job.

Not a really good response from UGOBE, so they did not even acknowlege they have a problem with the new update. I don'r like the sound of what is going on?
This will put people off buying Pleo if it's not sorted.
" Huston we have a problem" as the saying goes
it seems to me they don't read their forum and not quick at all to admit they have a problem. Why won't UGOBE make a statment here they have a problem and are working on a patch now. This is serious and if they read there forums would know this. I mean a 50% of Pleos are now playing up due to a bad buggy update.

Try re-installing the update via an SD card vs the installation program. That should overwrite the update.

I agree that you should try to reinstall with the SD card. But I might suggest making sure you completely delete the old installation off the SD card, re-download the update from the web site and unzip it to the SD card. This way you know you have a good copy of the install.

Thanks but I don't have an SD card or reader yet. I only have USB. Is there a way to reinstall with USB?

I read that you can contact customer support and they would send you the upgrade on sd card.

I have managed to update my Zuki using USB through Vista and he seems to be fine so far, he did take a while to wake up after the download but have not yet noticed anything worrying in his behaviour :)

Here is my experience. I viewed the video then the PDF file then I downloaded the USB version on the day of release. I installed it and my little was very slow to re-hatch and then battery ran out. I recharged and he came back with twice as much narcolepsy. I left him on until the battery ran down again. He had moved about 5 feet across my kitchen floor. I then recharged again and there was no change. I sent Ugobe customer service an email request for help late last Friday. On Monday I miss the first call but managed to catch the 2nd call.
The fix was simple. It involved pushing the button on his belly for 10 seconds. I was told that when held down this becomes a reset button. He has worked just fine since then. Some new vocalizations are starting to emerge and the narcolepsy is considerably decreased.
The 2 things that I noticed is one he still can get his shoulder caught on a corner of a wall or a chair and two he now gets hotter. While being caught he now stops and nuzzles instead of the constant pushing then going to sleep.
The increased heat is a hard one. I guess a small fan blowing air out of his mouth combined with some well placed vents would be a solution on the next model.

Thank you to everyone for posting your feedback on the 1.0.2 update! It has been very gratifying seeing so many of you enjoying the new sounds and perkiness and singing that Pleo is up to. (Wait til you see what else we have in store!)
We want to acknowledge that a few of you have experienced some assorted problems (freezing, sleeping, etc) with updating your Pleos. We ask you to call Customer Support with this information: the support team is evaluating and following up with each person who reports an incident. The great news is that they have had an excellent - almost 100% - success rate in straightening out problems so far! We are confident that any issues cropping up are installation glitches rather than software probems, and the great team here (they sit right upstairs from me) can walk you through the process of re-installing.
Of course, we can’t investigate (and repair) what happened to your Pleo unless you call us directly to give us all the details. Rest assured that you and Pleo will be well taken care of and no one will be left with a dead or frozen Pleo because of software we distributed. UGOBE is committed to delivering a great experience throughout Pleo's life and these "growing pains" are no exception.
Please call us in the US at (877)846-2353 (or use our web contact form if you are abroad). Our Support hours are:
Monday-Friday, 9-5 Pacific
Satuday 9-1 Pacific
Sunday 12-4 Pacific
Finally, I want to state again for the record that we DO read these Forums (almost constantly) and care very much about what everyone is saying. We can't always respond *immediately* to your questions, because we need to go through the process of carefully following up on what's happening before posting a response. Sometimes that takes a little time. Thanks for your patience...and again, remember that Customer Support is here for you...use them! They don't bite...much. :-)

Hi Cleo6,
If you go to the D/L page http://www.pleoworld.com/support/updates they have some great instuctions on how each method is supposed to be done. Whether you pick the SD card method or the USB connection method. :D

Thank you for your help!! I am wondering though, I have the update on my SD card, I just inserted my SD card in my pleo, the V-day download showed up, he started blowing kisses and whistling, but I didn't hear a chime...does the folder need to be unzipped BEFORE the contents are put on the SD card and into pleo?

ok so I updated Cleo's software and all she wants to do is sleep?? And the V-day download, does that stay in her or does it only work when the SD card is put in? The christmas download won't work, is that because the V-day one is on the SD card to? I put the xmas download in a folder on the SD card so I didnt have to rename them because I know we aren't suppose to.

My Pleo sleeps constantly since the update...it's a tad disappointing. This is the second battery cycle of sleep!
you know I JUST downloaded the update into my Cleo and she has been sleeping ever since and when she wakes up she wines and growls. I wish she wouldn't sleep all the time, when I say wake up Cleo/Pleo she doesn't move or do anything:confused:
I need to know...the V-day and christmas downloads, do those only work when the SD card is inserted, those dont download into the pleo right? because since the SD card has been out she hasn't blown me any kisses.

The holiday and lovestruck Pleo downloads are not permanently written to Pleo...you have to insert them on an SD card and they must be the only .urf file on the card.
One .urf at a time, and don't change the name of it. (In other words - the hoiday download is called pleo.urf - put it all by itself onto an SD card and then insert it Same goes for the lovestruck download.)
As far as the 1.0.2 update goes:
1. Select the SD Card Installation icon on Pleoworld to download the new version .zip file to your computer.
2. Insert an SD card into the appropriate slot on your computer.
3. Open the .zip file, open the folder in the .zip file, and copy the new version files (including the sound folder) to the SD card.
Hope that helps.

Ok I have a couple of concerns with Cleo...the battery is warmer than usual, I just chraged it and I put it in Cleo and I turned the switch, she woke up but then froze with her head up, I have my SD card in her with the V-day thing. Now when she blows kisses and whistles, its very distorted. When someone from the admin sees PLEASE help me out, I know I have posted a lot tonight, but I have so many questions and I know that this is the only place that can answer them!! Thank you!!

Yes it did thank you!! I did the update via the usb cable, it worked but now she is being sluggish like a lot of other people have complained about. I understand the downloads, I will fix those so there is only one on the card. Ok the holiday download works perfectly, but when the SD card is out is when Cleo is sluggish?!?! I have read a lot of complaints about the new update, is it just something that Ugobe needs to fix, like make a patch or something, its common in DLs to have small errors...do you know anything about if they are going to fix the update?

Hi Cleo6, I strongly suggest that you contact Customer Support. They are much better equipped to help members troubleshoot quicker than on the forums. They know the right questions to ask to help you get things resolved quickly. :D

I'm so sorry to hear of the problems many people are having with the updates to their Pleos. My experience has been decidedly much better. The update did not significantly change Seeley's personality at all. He still walks and talks and sleeps as much as he used to. I have noticed that his navigation is much better. Before he would walk into something and scream and then keep walking into it. If no one would help him and redirect him, he would eventually just go to sleep where he was. But now when he runs into something, he recognizes it, backs up and takes a different direction. The other major change I've noticed is that his eating chomping sound is different and much more realistic. He also moos now, and I'm not sure what that's about. Has anyone else's Pleo mooed like a cow lately?
Ultimately, the update was a success on my end. :)

Interestingly, this is my second pleo. Well, to be frank, the first is my daughters. This new one lives at my office on my desk.
I didn't update hers, because I was concerned about a negative response if her pleo ended up being lethargic and sleepy. However, I did upgrade mine.
I find that if I pay a great deal of attention to him (Clyde, by the way), he acts pretty "normal". If I put him on the floor and let him be, he seems to wonder. If I keep him on the desk, and don't pay attention, he seems to get "bored" and "mope".
Today, he fell asleep in my lap
