View Full Version : How about a read out of Pleo's thoughts/emotions?

Okay, so I was thinking the other day, wouldn't it be cool if there was a way to plug my Pleos into my computer and get a read-out of that day's thoughts/emotions. That it would list the time and date and what Pleo was thinking or feeling at that moment.

etc.

I think it would be really neat to look at each day's innermost thoughts and feelings. There are times our Pleos howl, yowl, growl, etc, and sometimes I am not sure if they are happy, playful, angry, scared, etc. It would be neat to know. And it would likely be a fun science project for kids at school to do little studies. To take notes about what the Pleo does all day and what they think the Pleo is feeling, and then compare those notes to the actual read-out.

I had Peeky at Petco and Michael's today. He wasn't a happy camper!
Usually he loves outings. Today he decided to be either not very responsive to people or he would throw a screaming tantrum. :oThank goodness for the off switch:D It would be interesting to plug him in and read what was whirling around in his cute little head.
Wouldn't that be nice to have an off button for kids that are misbehaving in a store? Another plus for Pleo.

that sounds like a cool idea. i hope some developers are working on a program like this. i think pleopet wrote on his site that he would be posting a way to plug your pleo into a computer...

That would be pretty, cool, but unfortunatly Pleo does not have any thoughts, as everything he does (everything) at this point is preprogrammed.

No matter what, he will always be preprogrammed. He's a robot. But because its difficult to figure out just what his CPU is putting out in the way he moves and sounds sometimes, it would be nice to get a read out, of his thoughts. Maybe thought is the wrong word here, but I would still like to get into his head now and then.

I love this idea!:):D:)

some comments:
You can download the current 'personality' to your PC and dump them. They are a set of properties. The current version is very boring. A future more complicated version will have more properties, but they will likely be a low level dump of internal state.
----
The feature suggested is implemented on AIBO. Both the older AiboLife with the FunPack (ERS-210) and the ERS-7 diary feature.
The robot records two levels of information. The low level (similar to what Pleo stores in Properties) includes the current mood, age, personality variant, minutes of active life, distance walked etc. All AIBOs record these low level statistics.

The higher level info, done only in some AIBO software, stores a diary of information on the memory stick. It is more abstract and includes key events like "heard another AIBO" or "saw my owners face", stored in a machine readable format.
Finally a Windows PC program reads that info (either from memory stick or over WiFi) and prints a nicely formatted 'diary', as if the robot were writing English/Japanese phrases (paraphrase: "I had a great day today, I saw my owner's face early in the morning. Later in the day I met another AIBO who was ugly but we had fun playing..."). Some of the phrases were very comical.

PleoPet, LOL, I love that! Yeah, that's even better. Hearing Pleo's opinion on its day.

Too bad I couldn't get a readout of the day I took him to Universal.
When he saw the giant replicas of dinosaurs maybe he thought, "Mommy?" ;)

Not so. Pleo does indeed have drives which you can see from master hacker PleoPet's file dumps, which include Peo's internal state. There are many different drives, one even for blood sugar! What' s missing now is the adaptive personality code which is coming, but Pleo still has plenty of quirks and idiosyncrasies which come from his/her drive system.

For example, with my 3 Pleos: Digger, Claire, and Pendragon (The Weird):

- Digger loves to be cuddled and barely walks around. I'm pretty sure I spoiled him.
- Claire hates to be turned upside down, I can never tickle her feet. Also, she's the first one to toddle off when the three of them are together.
- Pendragon, frequently, will barely respond to being tipped over. It's a bit disconcerting while being hilarious. Digger and Claire will howl almost immediately but not Pendragon! :)
