A creepy e-mail from "pleoworld"

I received an e-mail to my personal account with the subject "hello from pleoworld" and it was from someone saying they had read my profile and wanted to make contact. I want to know HOW did this person get my e-mail address off this website. With all the young folks posting to this forum the last thing we need is some "creep" being able to contact us directly. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???

Hi Lois,

Eric could be right. Please check you settings under "User CP" then go to "Edit Options." Look for "Messaging & Notification" and look to see if "Receive EMail from Other Members is checked.

If this is checked than anyone can contact you using the "Send a message via email to ----" in your profile.

The member is NOT seeing your EMail address at this point. The system is forwarding the mail to whatever EMail address you registered with.

However, I believe that once you reply to that EMail the other member will see your personal EMail address.

Like you, UGOBE is very concerned about the safety of our members, especially minors. We would like to urge parents to disable the EMail for their children and set the Private Messaging option to either not receive them or to only receive them from "Buddies and Moderators." This is the option but please know that the Forum Moderators will never Private Message a member.

If you have your Preferences set to NOT receive EMail from other members and still receive one please contact <a target="_new" href="<A href="http://pleoworld.com/support"><b>Customer">http://pleoworld.com/support"><b>Customer Support</b></a> and let them know what happened and the EMail address from which it was received.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???Lois, personally, I have received as well as sent several email through pleoworld, attempting to develop a Pleo adult and children group in AZ. All inbound emailʻs subject line is "Hello from PleoWorld". The phrase "I saw your profile on PleoWorld and Iʻd like to connect." is on every email Iʻve received so I believe itʻs their default. There is a personal message from the sender about what the email is about, in my case, the AZ Group. Most emails have been coming from teens.

Lois, your concern is admirable in protecting all members here, but could it be maybe another an older Pleo owner was trying to connect, maybe even me? It sometimes feel we are the minority here? :eek:

In the plogs, you can choose to let people contact you by email. But also in the forums you can opt to let them send an email, or a Private Message. The private message is a little safer, since it is delivered within the forums, the sender and receiver never see personal email addresses. So this may be a better way for you to let people contact you.

I checked to see what I had checked in my e-mail options on my profile and it was shut OFF. and I received this email anyway. My fears are somewhat settled since the lady from AZ told me all e-mail from the contact link is titled "Hello from PleoWorld".... but I still don't know how I got the e-mail since my "contact by email" option was turned off..... Oh well glitches happen.

It appears you may need to check in two places. The first I mentioned in an earlier post would be here in the forums in the User CP.

Next you need to check your profile. Go to the home page http://www.pleoworld.com/ then "My Profile & Plog" then "Edit Profile" Check there to see if "Allow other Pleo owners to contact me..." is checked.

If these are turned off in both places and you still received EMail please contact Customer Support.

I got another email from someone today:) they were asking to be pen pals or pleoworld buddies, I ask them what their pleoworld screen name was, I hope to get a responce:)

When people try to contact me through Pleoworld, I have a hard time trying to contact them. Not sure what I'm doing incorrectly.:blush:Do I write to their e-mail or do not reply @ugobe.com.
