Register a complaint with eBay. Find out what the "error" was. If he made the error in listing (mis-typed, set the wrong minimum bid, didn't include a reserve price, etc.) eBay still holds the seller responsible for honoring the deal. ebay has very strong rules against people "changing their mind and not wanting to sell it that cheap".

the mistake was he said 35dollars and he meant to say 350dollars! but if i do that he might like charge me a lo(for shipping)t to fill in the price difference for the pleo!

I bet he just relized pleo's were worth $350, and quickly made up an excuse to sell them for the right price, ok, but seriously, you bought those pleos fair and square!!! he cant just decide to take them back, It was HIS fault, and HIS loss!!!!!

But if i say he has to give them to me like he might charge me for shipping the difference between what i bought it for and the actual price of pleo!

Why not???? they did say 160?!!?

For a brief period of several hours, Target had pleo on sale for 60% off on clearance. They quickly caught the mistake and set the price back to the $349 regular price. But those who ordered at the $160 price got emails stating that Target "made a maistake" and that the pleos were $349, not $160 and Target was cancelling the orders.

They should honour it for £35 after all they messed up. You bought it for the price you SAW on the bid and that should be the price you PAY no questions asked! :) go tell the guy that!

Seanmcdona121 When you first bid on the two Pleos didn't you find it a little odd that the price was so low compared to the other Pleo's on Ebay. If you can prove with out a reasonable doubt that this seller was trying to be dishonest how bout giving him/her a break for the mistake. I will bet this person was new to Ebay selling.

Two Pleos for sale on ebay for $70.
You thought the person didnt know what they were selling, so you were willing to take advantage of them.
Or you knew it was a typo, an error they had made when listing, but you again were willing to exploit the mistake and take advantage of this person.
Shame.
You could have written them an email telling them that a "New Pleo" normally costs over $300.00, and that you want to make sure they hadnt made a mistake of some kind, before you placed your bid.
Sorry, but thats what happens sometimes when you try to take advantage of someone...it doesnt work out like you planned.
Get over it.

I checked out Sean's transaction on ebay. The seller did indeed list Pleo for $35. He has 5 available. He listed them on 1/16 and they all sold on 1/16. There were only two buyers; one bought two Pleos and the other bought 3.
However, this was a "buy it now" auction. I think it's pretty obvious now that the seller did make a typo on the listing. The seller did cancel the auction after the sales were made but he did do it today--the same day he listed it and probably as soon as he/she realized what had happened. I know it's cool to get a great deal on ebay, or anywhere else, but it looks as if the person made an honest mistake and was not trying to scam anyone. I feel badly for everybody in this, because the buyers are angry they didn't get that great deal and the seller looks bad. However, the seller has a satisfaction rating of 99.8% over 1700 sales and that's about as close to perfect as anyone on ebay gets these days.
Sean, I know you're disappointed and, if I were you, I'd want the seller to honor this. On the other hand, you bought either two or three of the Pleos (I'm not sure which buyer you are) so it sounds as if you knew it was almost too good to be true. People do goof. Perhaps you could ask the seller to give you a discount on one of the Pleos for your trouble.

Sorry to dissapoint you Sean, but no, I would NOT have taken advantage of what I believe was probably an honest mistake.
You can learn 2 things about this lesson.
The first lesson you can learn about yourself.
The second lesson you can learn about your understanding of others.
Just open your eyes a bit wider

Wauw, almost a saint preaching, Bonkorama since you are so honest, you probably have checked under which conditions the Pleo was manufactured in China, against what wages and and in which labouring conditions. You are sure no child labour is involved...? Production price of a Pleo is far less then 100 dollar.
As Sean was just looking for a good business deal he complies with ebay-rules.
By the way I bought on Ebay a Wowwee RS Media for 110 Euro, while in regular shops in NL it is 419 Euro, almost 4 times as expensive......mmm....probably I should feel bad...
Greetings to you Bonkorama, hope you use the same moral standards for yourself......

Hi Sean,
I would do pretty much the same as you did, in a previous message I read that the seller has sold more then 1700 items, so obviously he knows how Ebay works and it's rules. The seller has responsibilites to comply with.
I would simply ask the seller what he has to offer in order to avoid bad feedback, like someone else suggested, maybe a significant discount (were dealing with a "professional" ebayer as more then 1700 items have been sold, so do not feel bad).
When the offer is bad, maybe no gain for you but just give bad feedback in which you can mention what has happened. Fair enough.
Well good luck finding your Pleo!

Sean, and others,
I have a friend who sells regularly on ebay and I asked her about the ebay rules which would govern Sean's situation. She says that ebay makes provision for typographical errors in listings and the seller, in this case, did what he/she was supposed to do. When an error is made, and there are bids on the item, the seller is allowed to cancel the auction and the bids that were made. They DO have to state what the error was, which this seller did (if you look at the completed listings). They also stlll have to pay ebay the listing fees, even if they re-list the item. Ebay does not let a seller change only the price once the item is listed (except within a 2-hour time frame) so this seller had no other way of correcting his error but to cancel the auction.
Normally, I wouldn't get so involved in this but I did for two reasons: One, I do feel badly for Sean and want him not to feel like the seller was just being arbitrary (only human) and Two, I think people sometimes misunderstand that ebay is no different than any other marketplace in many ways. In some states, if a store mismarks an item, they are required to sell for that price but since this is ebay and the internet, ebay's rules probably take precedence. Even with 1700 items sold, this seller may or may not be a "retailer". My friend has 600 sales from her account but she is a working mom who sells her kids' old clothes and toys to help pay for new stuff. She sure couldn't afford to sell 5 items for a tenth of what they cost her.
In case anyone is interested, my friend gave me the link to the right ebay page for seller rules but I didn't think the link would be allowed here. I could cut and paste...

Please feel free to attack me for showing the slightest shred of decency. My mistake.
I suppose its not very politcally correct of me to say that people should be decent to one another and not take advantage when it would be easy to do so... Go figure.
I was taught to never take advantage of another by tricking them, or exploiting them by some technicality.
You can copy and paste all the ebay rules you want, in the end its up to PEOPLE to take the "high moral ground" to do the right thing.
And if that makes me some sort of "high moral ground" type, then I can live with that.
I suppose my simple upbringing makes me unpopular here. :(
I'll leave your thread.
Maybe offer a compromise or $150 or $200 each. shipping should be stated on the ebay page so that can't be changed. No one will be selling to loose that much money. However, they may compromise to keep their status and stop a complaint. See what they say. Just a suggestion.

Hey Bonkorama,
I haven't been on the list for a few days so I didn't realize you had taken offense at my last post. Actually, I have to say that I'm much more in agreement with your take on this situation. My response was aimed at the people who were saying that the ebay seller was wrong and implying that he had somehow tried to cheat Sean out of a good deal and should know how ebay works if he had so many sales to his credit. If you re-read my last message closely, I think you'll see I wasn't disagreeing with your thoughts at all. But I'm afraid you're not reading this post anymore and won't klnow...which makes me sad.
In a prior thread on these boards, someone else received two Pleos when they had only ordered and paid for one. It was an honest mistake on the part of the company that shipped them but I have to admit, I was amazed at all the people who told the person to keep both Pleos as if no one else would be hurt by it. I hope no one in the shipping department lost their job over it because when the items disappeared from stock, it might have looked like they'd been stolen...

hey, good for you
I thought I had a deal, 250 plus shipping costs on ebay,
anyway, pleo is priceless
my pleo has no sense of humor, no giggles, did see one sneeze but I don't know
what provoked it , never happened again
e-bay should with hold your bid contact them as soon as you can paste all the information into your e-mail to them and his email to you and all the correspondence
he should of stated on the listing how much the shipping would be so he cant then go and charge you for more
beat his butt its his own fault for listing them for that he must of realised he made the mistake as e-bayers always check to see if thier stuff has sold !!!!! he must of had millions and millions of e-mails and calls i paid two hundred and fifty english pounds for my little boys pleo and it came without an sd card not impressed at all will be straight onto the phone in the morning and the bloody box was damaged as well typical

If this was a court of law, the seller would HAVE to give the Pleos for that price. Morality, guilt, whatever you wanna call it....a contract is BINDING.
Let's put it this way...
You walk into Walmart and there is a Blu-Ray Disc player for $30. That is the pricetag listed withe SKU right on it. You take it to the register and it rings up $300. You point out the price tag. Walmart, and many other large chain stores have this policy (oh and its also the LAW), if the price is listed, then the seller must sell it for that price, no matter if it was a mistake or not. They HAVE to sell it.
Now tell me honestly...if you saw such a mistake at Walmart, wouldn't you take advantage of it? I would. And would you care Walmart was out of the dough? Probably not. Why? Because Walmart is bigger than this Ebay seller? Is that a reason to take advantage of Walmart, but not an ebay seller?
Yes, it was likely an honest mistake, but it is against Ebay policy and USA laws to then renege on a contract. Not to mention, this honest mistake is avoided easily. You go through a lot of steps before you actually post an auction, he should have caught it. And it was actually poor business to then go back on the contract.
Few months ago, I went on an auction for some DS games. It was not Ebay, just a local forum with a guy auctioning off like 15 DS games, total was likely $200+. I was being nice and offered $75 as a starting bid, fully aware I would lose....I didn't. No one else bid. He emailed me and asked me where I wanted to meet. I told him I was shocked I won and feel bad it was such a low price. Bring the respondsible seller, he said no problem, a deal was a deal, it was his loss, my gain, where did I want to meet. That was a business man of integrity. A contract is a contract, no matter how unfair it may seem.
