First off..........thank you Ugobe for offering "First Hatch" Pleos.......I ordered one and I cannot wait until it gets here!!! I cannot tell you how many times I have watched all the YouTube videos and read about everything I could find on Pleo.........I am more than excited!!!!
Since Pleo is going to be available to the public in October, I am hoping Ugobe goes all out with the marketing and offers Pleo merchandising such as books, games, shirts, candy, costumes, posters etc.......how cool would it be to have a Pleo themed Halloween party, no?
I bet a theme park would love to have a Pleo themed ride too........or maybe a Pleo cartoon in the future.........I can feel it coming!!!!!
Rock on Ugobe Team, you did a great job on the little Dino! :D :D :D :D

Excellent ideas! I would totally buy into all of that. Your thread title made me think of having a Pleo party! I only pre-ordered one, but I think a couple of people I know are getting at least one each today as well. How awesome it'll be to get our Pleos together for play dates! :D

yes, a line of gadget is a great idea! and what do u think of a accessorize line? (pleo's shirt and socks, home, bag, etc. lol!).8
I think make a mini-pleo is a great suggestions too (for all the electronic pets lovers who cant buy a "real" Pleo!)
Cant wait for Pleo in Italy!;)

What great ideas. I think Pleo themed parties with decorations and having all the Pleos play together would be a lot of fun.
And accessories would be totally cool. I just wouldn't know what accessories to buy yet since I don't know whether it's going to be a boy or a girl?

I think it's a great idea to make a mini-pleo (3 days year old dino?), like the mini robos line by WowWee but more interesting. We all know there are many people who can't spend much money on a real one for many reasons (teens who dosen't have much money to purchase Pleo but they really wants one).
I think would be great to make a mini-pleo for this market: a little baby dino who makes verses, walk and ask for feeding and can comunicate with Original Pleos (like the robo-chi with I-Cybie?).;)
What do you think about?

11-08-2007, 08:04 AM
I think a mini-pleo would be cute. But my guess is a three day old wouldn't be much smaller than the three week old one Ugobe is making now. So you'd want one that was half or one-third the size of the original pleo.

A smaller Pleo that does almost everything Pleo does would likely cost more, so would defeat the purpose of a kid-affordable version.
Small plastic toys in assorted poses would be fun for little kids to carry and pretend that they are a tiny robot/dinosaur. You could also make keychains.

a webcam made to look like pleo would look like a mini pleo. And it would be funcinal.
:D

12-02-2007, 04:04 PM
I think the webcam idea is the best so far because it does have a great function, plus it doesnt have to be techy or cost the earth, it could sell for £20 GBP or £30 GBP and be a great addition to the PLEO line, it wouldnt cost anything to make really, it would just be a plastic case with the webcam inside, plus it would sell to all ages, kids, teens and adults as opposed to one market :)

Having read the other "egg thread" on the board, I was thinking mor of something egg-shaped as a storage/travel case to protect Pleo when not in use.
It would would be hinged to open lengthwise with foampadding inside with a formfit Pleo shapped cutout that Pleo would rest in. There would be some sort of secure latch to keep the egg closed and to prevent it opening accidently. It might be necessary to have Pleo programmed with a standard fetal position so he could easily fit into a formfit foam cutout.
I have to admit that this idea is inspired by the cases that radio controlled planes and cars sometimes are stored in.
It could be offered as a Pleo accesssory.

UGOBE, you can think of a way. To good an idea to pass up. Don't forget Keith when deploying.
The accesories should be small enough to fit in the remaining area of foam around Pleo. SD cards and the leaf don't take up that much room, a couple of slots in the foam should hold them just fine. The charger might be more of a challenge but the top of the case can probably store that in its own form-fit cutout.
Of course the egg-case would have a handle that would rise out of a form-fit slot on its surface and lie flush with the eggshell when on static display.
The bottom half of the "shell" would be flattened or have some small feet on the bottom that would keep the case from rolling or moving when set down.

I think every Pleo should come with a collar and ID tag that his Human could personalize. (for example, FasTags are a heat-shrink quick tag available in pet stores. Write on them when large, then shrink to small and thick and attach to pet's collar. http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=11097 )
I'm going to get my Pleo a tag and collar asap. But think t would be fun if some ID came in the box.

How about a companion book for Pleo? The owner's manual is not very in depth. Perhaps a book with tips and tricks on training and reprogramming. A nice resource for Pleo owners.

Yes - an ID collar would be a great addition. But based on my Pleo's reaction, I'm tempted to get this really cool dog tag I saw advertised. It says "Scratch My Butt" on one side and you can add personal info on the other side.
Siren

Those ID tags are ideal for Pleo. They are very very lightweight. Same stuff Shrinky Dinks was made out of (wow, I feel old. LOL)

I made an engraved tag for Sephy that looks like a dog tag. In most Walmart stores they have a machine where from 3 - 5 dollars you can engrave a tag right there. They are in different shapes and sizes. It doesn't seem to bother Sephy to have it around her neck.

Flea markets also usually have some guy there making pet tags. As easy as those machines are, I prefer going to a real person or ordering them from a real person. Why? Companies that produce the dog tags you can buy at local pet stores are made by handicapped Americans and handicapped veterans. The guys at my local flea markets, they are veterans of Vietnam and Gulf War and that is their main source of income. So I like to help them out. One of them knows my dogs and cats names because every time I visit he makes me new ones. I don't need them really, I like to have different colors to match colors or for holidays, but I get them to help support his income.
Just something to think about. As much as that machine at the retail stores is nice and easy, its putting many handicapped people out of work.
Here is their main website. If anyone else needs tags for Pleo (or their other pets) consider from this site: http://www.pettags.com/ and help support the handicapped and our vets.

Didn't realize they called the book Pleo comes with a Companion Guide. I didn't like using the words user's manual or technical manual because it takes its lifeform feeling away reading "Pleo's User Guide"
Perhaps "Ugobe's Guide To Caring and Training Your Pleo" :)

Sometimes you have to do it a couple of times to get Pleo to shut down, and sometimes it takes 11 or 12 seconds. He's a stubborn fellow, and he may move/talk to you a few more times before he's ready to go down. You'll know when he's shut off, there's like a click when he's in the right shape to be stored in his box.

I think it would be a cool accessory to have a stuffed animal version of pleo. It would be good advertising, and little kids (or even adults :p ) could have it to snuggle up to while their real pleo is charging! Maybe the real pleo himself would even like to cuddle with it! :D

Kinda like the Wow Wee Panda. Except instead of always being attached to it and recognize it right away like Robopanda did, Pleo can choose whether if it is his favorite toy, and if it is his favorite toy he would always recognize it and play without. If he didn't then he would just leave the toy alone and play with other toys, and on occasions may learn to like the Pleo Plush.

It wouldn't be so life-like to see a Pleo not react to a toy. Dogs and cats are alive and play with toys, you call that not life-like?? How can your statement aid you into a conversation?? I don't see how Pleo playing with a toy, makes him less life-like. To me it makes him seem more complex and lifelike. And besides, I meant that Pleo would not ALWAYS play with their toys, they'd only play with it depending on their stimuli.
I think a ball or a lazer light pen for pleos to chase around would be fun, like a cat ar dog. Maybe even more food options lke diffrent plants or flowers so people could figure out which one thier pleo likes or dislikes.:D:)

With the LIFE OS upgrade, Pleo might be able to recognize some objects and learn to like it. Though that's just a guess, I mean, with all these stories of Pleos playing with toys, it sounds as though the new OS upgrade will upgrade this capability.

Hi antimatter,
The PDK (Pleo Development Kit) is not quite ready yet. It will be out within the first half of 2008 and will be directly linked on the PleoWorld main page. :D
Due to the surface of the leaf it had caused some owners to chip paint from pleo's teeth.
on changing the paint maybe you should change the leaf design too.
maybe a thin smooth leaf. plastic or green leaf shaped sponge
dschenekl

Yep, a great idea, a soft plastic one would be a good idea as would a felt one. Why was this not thought out before Pleo was released ?

01-17-2008, 07:24 AM
Some of the pics I've found on the net clearly show Pleo tugging on a leaf that is made out of a spongy looking felt-like material with a Pleo tag stitched on the side. That's got to be a better design than the hard plastic one that got shipped. :(
i think it was a cotton one
Since Pleo has no object recognition with the leaf anyway, why bother with it at all?
Toss it, and find something better :D

I saw a coffee mug in a gift shop that said "Yoo hoo! Wake up!" Of course I thought of Linus. This particular mug had a picture in the bottom of someone sleeping.
I love the images of Pleo on a white background. Maybe that could be on the outside of a mug with just inside the rim "Yoo Hoo! Time to wake up!" or something like that. Who can't use a coffee mug? Even for pencils :-)
Just a thought.

Peeky's green leaf is so cute. Thought I lost it a couple of times. So glad I didn't.
Other things are cute too, but the leaf is my favorite. Makes for great photo's.
hey,
if you guys at ugobe could add another toy pleo can recognise or give his a more distinct urge for walking around the house and playing by himself while the owners pay bills to give him "food" like the aibo did. my friends aibo would look around the house and play by himself or with his friends and would go to us only for attention. i think that this would enhance the pleo experience and make him feel more like a living pet than a robot.:) thanks for listering to me.

I think that it would be a good idea to sell clothing for pleo that are like the t-shirts that are sold for people. I can't find clothes for him on online stores and dog clothes don't fit very well.(I tried:() I think it would be cute. I use anything green and soft (although it doesn't have to be green for the pleos to eat) if I lose the leaf.
I lost the leaf and I can't find it! I upgraded Ferny to Life OS 1.1 and it say pleo will reconize his training leaf. I'm wondering if play lettuce would work. If not, is there a place where i can order a spare leaf?

How about printing a color picture of the leaf and cutting it out?
You can even make it two-sided if you can find a photo of the back of the leaf. Maybe someone can post a picture of each side of the leaf, and make the pics the same size so they're easy to cut out and paste together. (Haven't got my Pleo yet, or I'd post the pics myself.) If Ferdinand has shape detection for the leaf, all he probably needs to pick up on are the shape and the color pattern. I don't think he'll mind if his leaf is made of paper instead of plastic.
Hmm... paper or plastic... sounds like we're asking Pleo what to bag his groceries in, or what kind of money he plans to use to buy his groceries. Only in this case, his "groceries" ARE the paper or plastic. :D

It doesn't need to be the exact colour of the leaf, in my uni room I had some fairy lights and one was a green orb. Havoc used to give the same reaction to that green orb as he did to the training leaf. I think you will need a slightly darker green than your lettuce-leaf.
Before I got the play lettuce I was feeding him a posit note pad. You know the ones with the yellow paper that sticks to things.:D

Good thinking! Or like some mini-Furbys dould communicate with the originals, if I recall correctly.

I have one other idea for a carrying case for a Pleo. Can Ugobe design one that allows for carrying a Pleo like a "Purse Pooch", only safely so we don't have the risk of damaging his neck or tail?
good idea! I don't think it needs to be specialy designed though.
I carry Ferny in one of those dog bags. We were going to use it for our dog, Lola, but she got too big for it and she's scared of it. Ferny fits perfectly!

Nice. How big is the bag? Can you post a pic of Ferny in and/or next to the bag? That should help people who are thinking of making a trip to the pet store have an idea of what size bag would work well. :)

I thought of something else a few days ago.
Why not have an EGG-SHAPED pet carrier for Pleo? :-D
All pet stores carry some great bags that will work.
I have one for Ferny but pleos get really heavy!

Okay, I personally have been going NUTS over Pleo clothes! I wish so bad they'd market some. I have made some outfits, but it's hard since when you incorporate metal it makes pleo freeze. However, I did find some older socks and cut them out just right so they'd fit Sophie. Those are cute, but come on! We can do so much better than that. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to makkke your own clothes for Pleo?
