Here is the Brain Video everyone has been waiting for...

Well just one of his brains. Specifically the camera cpu.

So Pleo's cpu that runs the camera is a Phillips NXP LPC2103F

This CPU is a 32 Bit ARM CPU with 8k of RAM, 32k of flash, 10 bit ADC, 2 UARTS, 2 I2C busses, and SPI & SSP.

The pinout for the CPU

Now that I have the pinouts I can ohm out the J105 pins to the CPU and see what we get.

Awesome video and the fact he still works is even better. I think its great of you. I hate to see things taken apart by people who don't know jack about it. So its really extra cool you could get him all back together and working perfectly again :D

Well If I broke him, I would not be able to continue learning about Pleo's innards. One thing that is very evident is the amount of engineering that went into Pleos mechanical design. Its just amazing. Pleo is very easy to disassemble and re-assemble. All the major parts are modular and could be replaced easily. My favorite 2 parts of Pleo are the tail and the neck, these parts are very close to how the real Camarasaurus spine was. See below:

Thanks for the information. Like siren said it is nice to have an expert do this. I'm learning.

Great work, and now with less video compression errors. ;)

I love the classic in the background and the fact, that you seem to know, what you are doing.
Btw i thought you'd have at least 2 Pleos. But if you really only have Bonez then you are really taking high risks there. Respect.

Dont you have Bonez and Leo, two pleos?

Great! I've linked all your "operations" on my blog, very interesting e good videos! :D

Do you think that camera could only recognize colours, not shapes?

Leo hasn't shipped yet... :(

Caahl, The video was encoded in MPEG2 from Premiere Pro and shot with a Sony HDR-HC1 (1080i HD). There weren't any video compression errors until Google did their stuff. The rendered 8 min video was 1.43GB.

My day job has me designing highly specialized circuit boards that do interesting things with other microprocessors for special projects. (Thats about all I can publicly tell you.) Taking things apart has been a favorite pastime since I was 7 years old. ;)

I learned early on that if I wanted to continue playing with the toys I take apart, I would have to be careful and remember how they went back together. I am a hands on learner / observer, I learn new things by doing them. As I said earlier Pleo's design is an engineering marvel. There is still plenty of Pleo to explore.

Thx for the links.

With that 32bit beast chomping at the bit :P I'm sure we can get Pleo's camera to do some very cool things.

try the following:
file -> export -> adobe media encoder

and chose format: windows media

This will render you a wmv with good quality but very little amaount of data. :)

I originally did that but when I upload them to Google they fail processing. :(
