How many pleo are there? how many pleo owners are there?

I know sony sold around 100,000 (one hundred thousand) aibos... I think ugobe needs to sell around 25,000 to be protiberable, I read they invested more than two millions dollars on this. They havent market a lot, but with the tv appereacen in Good morning America, and in the news, and all web site he has become famous among geeks, early adopters, and peole who wants a toy replacement. Hope the ai becomes better, and new products come, so we could have robots that open our doors with a special beam. The future is coming at us...hope all we can see next generation robots, and robotc life forms.

Well, cant say how many the sold till now, but its quite clear, that there werent enough pleos for every one wanting one, when it came out...so this means high demand, at least. :)

Interestingly, I recently sent myfirst hatch back due to a skin issue. It was SN #5000 ('ish). Got a replacement FIRST HATCH (Thank you UGOBE) and the SN# was in the 400 range!

I asked if it was a refurbish, they said no. Part of the original production.

Interesting.

Indeed weird. I know the serial numbers are not consecutive (my first hatch is also in the 5000 range), but to still have a first hatch in stock?

I thought the first hatch was limited to the first 2000 and they had the gold cards Peeky is a non first hatch (4000 something).

The serial numbers are non-sequential. I could never get Ugobe to explain what the numbers mean, but you can't just go by the last four digits. . . .

I think Pleo is a success for an indipendent and young company like Ugobe. And if Martin Hitch - Vice President of Sales - said at CeBit that they've 4-5 new product at work, i suppose they sold Pleo pretty well! :D

Are you going by the serial number on the card that is packaged with the Pleo? If so, then I just got mine this week and the serial number puts mine into the 76,000 range.

Something of worry is that factories often produce a contracted number of items. If the contract is not renewed and the item is successful some unscrupulous factories will “cheap-down” the product, zero the quality checking and continue to pump out massive numbers of a similar product, sometimes as good or better than the original. But usually not. The example I site is the Micro Mosquito radio control helicopter – made <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://forums.pleoworld.com/ /><st1:country-region w:st=<ST1:pChina</ST1:p</st1:country-region>. The huge numbers of fakes polluted the market so that the real item became unprofitable to produce. The item died in the market place. Those awaiting a revision 2 of the product never saw it. The pirates made all the money and disappeared.

Here's the "certified" answer: "The company has sold more than 50,000 [pleos] to date, Christopher said".
You could read the entire article here:

That makes no sense. The only difference between a first hatch and any other pleo IS THE GOLD CARD! If your card is green, it's not a first hatch.

First Hatch Pleos were only sold in the U.S. It was a special deal for members who received the newsletter before Pleo was released. These members were given a special "code" to preorder Pleo but only the first 2000 to order using that code received a First Hatch Pleo.

What happens if you have a first hatch that breaks? Is the replacement still considered a first hatch?

That is something that hasn't come up on the forums yet. Although the card number and the registration number on Pleo himself matches I'm not positive on how the Reincarnation program works. Interesting question, I'll have to see what I can find out. LOL

The official answer is that yes it would still be considered a First Hatch Pleo, since the personality is always a First Hatch! New body...same old soul. :-D

Not that first hatches have different personalities.
