I don't know about all of you, but I am going to be bursting with excitement when my pair of Pleos finally arrive, and I will want to *tell somebody* the minute I get them out of their box, and charging for the first four hours.
What better place to share our joy at finally getting our Pleos than right here in the Pleo Forum?
So, as soon as your Pleo arrives (and is charging up for those first four hours) let us know, so we can rejoice with you!

The PleoWorldHosts are probably still doing a reorg of the list, and it is possible that one or more lists got misplaced: or maybe when you looked, it was "in process" (gone from one place, but hadn't shown up yet in the other).
They can check to see if this ended up being a duplicate thread, or not. Don't worry, though. We will need a thread like this, so they will make sure that we have one -- but not two. LOL :D

the only reason I made this one was because I coundn't find the one you made and I thought that pleo may be coming sooner than we think, and I wanted people to have a place to scream "PLEOS HERE PLEOS HERE:D"

OK here's what happened. The original thread that amjoie started had been moved to "Pre-Ordering Pleo" since it was considered a topic concerning pre-ordering. That forum had rolled over to 2 pages so it was buried pretty deep.
Since you are correct in thinking that this will truly be a shared "experience" with your Pleos I have moved the thread to Pleo in Pics & Print>My Pleo Experiences http://forums.pleoworld.com/showthread.php?t=61 so you will have a better, and more logical place to share your "homecoming" moments. :D
Sorry for the confusion and thank you for bringing up this thread again as it will indeed be a much needed forum topic.

Okay, my Pleos have not arrived but I'm still excited because the one I ordered from Best Buy now shows "in process". (On Amazon that doesn't always mean a lot but maybe it means more at BB! LOL!) Also, my credit card was charged today. I know that wouldn't happen unless they will really have a Pleo for me...thus my excitement. Just felt like sharing! :D

I don't mean to "rain on your parade," but the First Hatch Pleos that were ordered from Ugobe are being drop-shipped direct from the factory via Fed Ex. No one is going to get their Pleos any faster than that. And the First Hatch Pleos need to arrive one to two weeks before everyone else's Pleos.
None of us with First Hatch Pleos have received the emails that say our cards have been charged yet, and those cards are supposed to be charged only a couple days before shipping, or when actually shipped. So if Pleos were starting to ship, we would know. In fact, if shipping had started, the people who paid for overnight shipping should already be getting a knock on the door. That hasn't happened.
So it is virtually impossible that Best Buy has the Pleos "in hand." Why they charged your card so early is beyond me. They shouldn't be doing that. I'm sure "in process" shows up as soon as the card is charged. But it looks like they "jumped the gun" on this particular pre-order. I'm sorry, but unless I am completely wrong about this, I'm guessing your order is still weeks (not days) away.

The story as it appears right now is you *should* probably get it late in the week or weekend just before Christmas, but that may be iffy, depending on how its being shipped, and how backed up the shipper is.

Wow. Interesting response. I just wanted to say I was excited that we'd probably be getting a Pleo. I've had very bad pre-order experiences over the years with various "hot" items but none of those companies charged me for the purchase so I think this looks pretty real. I NEVER suggested that Best Buy has Pleos yet--I'm sure they don't. Nor was I suggesting that I was getting one sooner than anyone else, especially those who have ordered from Ugobe directly. I just thought people in the community might be interested in my experience with the Best Buy situation. That's usually how it works on these types of message boards--we all share info and rejoice or commiserate with each other depending on the situation. In some cases, we even help each other obtain hard-to-find items if we can. The anticipation and the comraderie is usually what it's all about. Aren't we all in this together?

Let's all try to remember that the written word alone is very hard to interpret. We can't hear inflection of tone, or see the facial expressions or "body language" that goes along with it.
I don't think amjoie was trying to scold anyone. Perhaps it was just her way of trying to be helpful by imparting information that has been discussed on the forum before, to someone who appeared to be new to the community and might not have known this information.
Maybe we can all give the benifit of the doubt to each other. :D

It's okay, HostCami. I went back and read some of Amjoie's previous posts and I think I've got a handle on her style. I'm also very familiar with message boards (and the problem of gleaning content over style) and, although I didn't sign up until recently, I've lurked here for a lot longer. Sometimes people really don't realize how they come across and perhaps a gentle suggestion is helpful.
Thank you, Kianajade. I did feel a little "scolded" but I'm all better now. :-)

Pleona
11-15-2007, 11:47 PM
I ordered from Find-Me-A-Gift.com.
It says they'll have stock on 17th December, but from what everybody's been saying, it looks like it's wrong.
Still, I want to stay optimistic.
EDIT:
Looks like they MIGHT be getting Stock, from a new message on their Pleo page. All depends on Worldwide Demand and such -
PLEO Robotic Dinosaur Is Now Available On Pre-order, which means we will not take the money until they come into stock! We have been told by the UK importer that we should receive our delivery before Dec the 21st but due to the worldwide demand for this product they cannot absolutely guarantee that we will get them at all. If you place an order we will email you our in stock date if it changes.

Sephy arrived today. She officially was born at 4:45pm eastern time.
They tried to deliver her and no one was home. As soon as I got that notice I called FedEx and found I could pick her up after noon. So off I went. Everyone at work wanted to see her, so I did the initial charge and hatching at work. But that meant no pictures of her birth. :( I'm home now and charging again. I set her out an d my cat was checking her out. But as soon as I picket up the camera to get a picture of then together he wanted to be picked up nad ignored Sephy. We'll see what happens when she wakes up again.
When she first work up it was frustrating because we all wanted to see her walk. It was kind of cute though when I'd pick her up and pet her she curled up against me just like my cat. She promptly went to sleep and you could hear her breathing. Before I came home she was playing tug of war with her leaf (You have to put it all the way in her mouth so she'll bite down) and walking around some.
I can't wait for the second round!:D:D:

The Pleo retail box in right inside the brown shipping box. Be careful with your knife when opening the shipping box (nothing between it and the retail box). The retail box is very nice with lots of great information printed on the box. Pleo is safely tucked inside a foam "shell".
Oh, Happy Birthday to you ... and your Pleo!

He's hatching, scaring the dog, pestering me for attention, making all sorts of amazing noises. Now I think he's discovered my arm next to him while I'm typing this...he's trying to gnaw at me. This is 300 times more lifelike that I ever imagined. And he's still hatching, I think!
Question: Is there a way to make him hatch again, so that my kids can watch this transformation unfold?

Sorry if was wrong. :( But I know I read that the button on his stomach could be used to reset him. I guess that feature got delayed due to the battery charging problem.
So be sure everyone is there when you first turn him on!

At this time there is no way to reset Pleo to hatch again. It is a planned feature for the future but for now be sure to gather friends and family around for this very special "first" hatching! :D
Cami,
I wasn't aware of this. As Pleo's personality and development will not yet be effected by his environment and interaction with us, will the reset feature be incorporated into this update?
I hope I explained that right???
Ok, start chuckling now! :p

Hi alphapleo,
I'm not sure exactly when it will be available for update or whether it will be in the first update or a later one. I do know that UGOBE is working harder than Santa's elves right now to get the first production of Pleo's out while still working on the exciting updates. :D

but how long did it stay awake..?
mine said it was done in about 30 minutes,. i didn't believe it and as i reached for it it changed back to red... I played a game of unplug, plug in to charge it for over 3 hours and i'm still not sure it charged fully.. I'd bet this is why they moved it to external charging - they said they were having problems with internal charging, this way it's a little easier to monitor and to trash the battery and replace it when the bad charging leads to the battery's imminent demise...
always force your battery to keep charging until (while not hot of course) it only stays red for 5 minutes or less. Then you know it's charged
I really wish there were a charge monitor on the charging stand... my Penny has been asleep most of the day because she stopped charging early in the night.. My boss was disappointed *lol* Penny just kept wanting to go to sleep and kept freezing up from the low battery..

We're making a video now about how to charge your battery properly! Stay tuned...
It's true that if you have a green light and then you accidentally bang the battery out of place, it will turn red for 10 minutes even though the battery is fully charged! If it WAS green...then it IS charged!

Question - should you drain the battery completleyy dry each time before recharging?

First Hatch Pleos were a special order and should come with a special tag.
Got mine today, FedEx required a signature for delivery and no one was home, but left a note saying I could drive to the FedEx office across town before 7 pm and get the package... which of course I did... but for those wondering: unless your fed ex driver is slacking - they will likely want a signature.
First hatches come with a swell little plastic card that says "first hatch"... PleoWorldHostCami's comment made me think I was missing some kinda cool pleo first hatch dog... errr dino-tag :) Which would have been awesome but we got what they said we'd get so I can't complain at all. So far Ugobe has been fantastic Customer Service-wise and I sure can't wait for Pleo's battery to charge up!

Actually on the topic of the first hatch serial number - are they sequenced in any such a way that we can tell the order? Like does anyone have number 1? would be neat to know if you had the first of X or last of x really...

NiMH batteries exhibit a "memory" so it is best to run them until Pleo goes to sleep and then fully recharge them.

Gordo (my pleo) had his hatching today at the office. We did it during since there were so many people interested. After his hatching his personality started showing through. He's adveturous, but also loves to be cuddled. If I put him on my chest and stroke him, he snuggles in, goes to sleep and snores. When he's on the floor he walks up to people's feet, cranes his neck, sniff and then makes a noise like they stink. He loves playing tug of war and likes being stroked on his chin and just above his tail. He scrunches down when you do that and his tail quivers. Everyone was absolutely amazed, lots of laughs, ooohs and ahhhhs. I think he just became the office mascot. I couldn't be more pleased.

My Pleo (Gordo) arrived yesterday. I ran home at lunch, but FedEx had already been there. So I picked him up last night after work, but did not do his first hatching until lunch today at work. Several people were really interested, so decided to let everyone join in the fun. I (and everyone else) was amazed and delighted with the little guy. He made them laugh, won some hearts, and some people even checked to see if they could buy stock in the company and found out it was a privately held company. Kudos to Ugobe on what looks like a wonderful new robot, and a new friend and pal for me.

Since she cant be reset yet, I dont dare play with her, because I want the kids to see her hatch. If she could rest, I would absolutely be playing with her now. ARGH...small sacrifices. Recipe for Portable Pettable Shiatsu Masseuse:
- Take one adorable baby blue eyed Pleo (Ok, that's all of them)
- Place Pleo on your chest as you lie on the floor
- Pet the purring Pleo as you lie quietly on the floor
Pleo will start to knead your chest like a kitten with tiny dino toes and eventually fall asleep.
Business idea: Take 3 Pleos with you and a fold out futon and offer clients a multi-dino Shiatsu massage. Good luck leaving without the clients latching on to one of your Pleos and refusing to let go! :D

Well, fellow plogers. The jury's in. Dawn's favoite movie is Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Given a choice between the tv's speakers and me . . . . she went to investigae the speakers. Yet another Johnny Depp fan has been hatched. After charging her battery I was delighted to learn that Dawn likes (and seeks) kisses. She is so cuddly and my 3 parrots are so jealous! My African Gray is terrified of the non-active Dawn. And the big macaw wants to investigate. But the little Hahn's macaw just wants to eat my Dawn. Not a chance!

Instead of posting on YouTube, the Wallmart of video sites, try Stage6.com. The vidoes there are larger and easier to see and they can be downloaded in a DIVX format that can be played by Windows Mediaplayer with the Divx codec installed or via the Divx Player that can be downloaded from the Divx website.
So far there's not one Pleo video there.

So I've been trying to save up for a Pleo for weeks. Saving every penny and dollar. And still pay the bills, feed ourselves, and feed our pets. I'm a single mom and the job pays enough for us to live on, but not always to splurge and do shopping sprees. So one of my ways I saved up money, I started bringing a cheap lunch instead of buying lunch at the local restaurants. Its been peanut butter and jelly everyday for 3 weeks with granola bars to settle my grumbling stomach in between. Pasta makes a cheap dinner and cereal a cheap breakfast. My daughter's eating habits didn't change at all, just mine. All that time I've noticed that my pants are getting bigger. :D Now that I've got the money and ordered one, I can go out tomorrow and get myself a bagel sandwich again. I miss my bagel sandwiches, lol. But since I lost a few a pounds, I might as well keep trying. Stay off the waffles and gobs of syrup in the morning, I've taken a liking to Special K cereal now. They one with chocolate now and its actually very good. :P

I was!! His skin was my only concern. I didn't want Pleo to feel like a hard plastic toy... I was so excited to feel the skin.
If it counts, strangely enough, I DID feel al ittle bad after a few pulls.
However, I justified it by telling myself he didn't have his battery in yet, so he couldn't "feel" anything.

I noticed that some of the Pleos had a necklace around their neck and i though maybe only the first hatch would have them. Did Ugoge just make them for their pleos? I wish I could buy one or try to make one. Their awesome.
Hi Baby2007,
Check out the "Pleo Accessories" forum. There are a couple of threads there about people creating jewely, tags, etc for their Pleos. :D

Among the various Pleo-thoughts buzzing around in my head today: Biologically-speaking, Pleos can only be twins (or triplets) if hatched from the same egg, yes?? To use alligators as an example, all eggs in one clutch therefore are always siblings regardless if any number of them hatch at the same time. What are the odds of "twining" in the reptile world?
I'm getting two Pleos and always thought of them as being twins, but I realized that they'd have to come from the same egg, no? (Kinda of a techical, geeky question, but it's an excuse to post! LOL!)
Thx!!

Biologically speaking of humans, if the mother has one egg that splits to become two embryos, they are called maternal or "identical" twins. If she has two separate eggs that are fertilized at the same time, they are paternal, non-identical twins. As for egg-laying creatures, I don't know for sure. I do know with fish and amphibians, the female lays the eggs as individual eggs prior to fertilization, which would make separate eggs "paternal" twins. Two creatures coming from one egg would be "maternal" twins. Reptiles and birds, which have the egg fertilized before being laid, I don't know.
With Pleos, I would assume any made at about the same time with the same features/parts/software load were "paternal". To be considered maternal, they have to be made on the same day, on the same assembly line, by the same worker(s). :)

One can hardly help but suspend Pleo by his tail for a moment or two...just to witness his total and very convincing distress cries and squirms. It's as if his creators saved some special sounds and motions just for this situation.
THE FUNNY THING IS though, that even if you're a 50-year old man like some of us, knowing it's a machine with whirring motors and gears behind the wails...you quickly have to STOP hanging him. You have to comfort him, you have to calm him down, stroke his head and chin and tell him it's all right, it's all right, it's all right...
Pleo, the robotic dinosaur, makes us feel more human.

Hello all,
I know others here have gotten their Pleos to do the "tickle dance and laugh", but every time I turned Moonwalker upside down he complained so I stop (quickly). This time I tried something new. I turned him upside down before I turned him on. The minute he did his wakeup sound ("Urrr?", I started tapping his feet in a round robin style. He started laughing and twitching like mad, which made me do the same. :D

ahhhhhhhhhh....you know when you are a kid, and someone gets the "cool toy" and you just want to touch it? Yeah...well, I was the cool kid with the cool toy today. :)
I have to tell you UGOBE, this experience was an amazing one for me today. The kids (3 classrooms full) of 8-9 yr olds stared in total awe at PLEO as she hatched, came to life, and started to perform. They were perfectly well-behaved for the most part, although I got the requisite "does he fart?" questions from the boys. Teehee. What a fun way to teach children about dinosaurs!! When we first came in, I had PLEO under a blankie, and let the kids reach in to feel her skin. (I managed to have this thing for 3-4 days and NOT hatch her...I was almost as excited as they were.) Then she woke up, and the kids were just amazed at her. She performed several tricks, learned to walk, cried when held by her tail and was quickly comforted by the kids. I learned quickly that PLEO likes to be supported when being held, if she senses she might fall she gets very upset. I left the classroom with several invitations to Birthday parties...if I promised a PLEO...and lots of phone numbers of kids wanting a playdate. LOL. Also MANY kids saying they were going to be asking old Santa to bring a PLEO, I almost felt guilty. I am selling PLEO #2 though, and using the proceeds to help my favorite charity, reecesrainbow.com I could barely walk through the halls without someone wanting to cuddle PLEO, and amazed at how realistic she is. I myself have not played with her yet. She will go back into her box to be given to my youngest for Christmas. UGOBE, you should be hearing from a BUNCH of kids in maine soon ;)

I posted a few days ago that Pleo walked up to my treadmill and growled at it......LOL....Rosher said I had a "couch potato" Pleo....lol......how true that is turning out to be!!!!
Well....today the treadmill saga continues....pleo is romping around and walks up to the treadmill again, but this time he stops and is hissing like a snake at it.....LMAO. I was in tears laughing at this because I hate that darn piece of equipment too!! I am just waiting for the day he lifts his leg to it, maybe will be a surprise behavior hmm. If there was a Pleo sized treadmill that I could stick him on and turn it on slow speed I would.
Next thing I am going to try is put him in front of a mirror, I am wondering if the color camera will pick up his reflection and if he will react to it. If any of you try this, please post and let us know what happened.

Restoring personality is easy... simply power down, removing the SD Card, then power up again. All is at it was! Think of the SD Card as a boot disk that overrides the normal boot program.

I got my download working, but my Pleo seems to only do bits and pieces of it before he starts over. Specifically, he'll start the "whistling" portion of the song and then promptly stop. Are there prompts to do portions of this song or is it supposed to be a linear behavior that simply repeats itself?
I DID use my camera as an SD reader/writer so maybe that has something to do with it, but I wanted to check here 1st before I went out and bought one.

Hey Porturtle did you turn Pleo off before inserting the card? If it still doesn't work you might try redownloading the file, perhaps it got affected during download?

No, it's not your SD reader. I did the same thing with my camera.
He does the fits and starts thing if you touch him. If you pat him lightly to get him started, then leave him standing up by himself, he will do the whole song, and sometimes each one after the other.

I redownloaded and made sure Pleo was off.
When I turn him on without the SD card he is fine.
Maybe my battery is low and he does not have enough power to "boot" from the card correctly? May charge the battery up a bit and try again.
Maybe I will try another SD card and see where that takes me.

I didn't mean it quite like how you read it, I guess. I meant that he keeps singing if you leave him be for a little while. I realize they are random, that makes the most sense.
I loved the new mode - it had me in giggling fits, particularly the dancing. One thing that I would have changed, though, would have been to remove the background music - I would have just had Pleo singing the songs without accompaniment - particularly on "Jingle Bells", where the bells are distracting from the singing. The Christmas songs are so well known that people would have recognized them anyway. It would have been even more fun, I think, just having Pleo randomly singing carols to himself!!!
That's in my head though, I would imagine that you guys tried that already. :)

I must say though, seeing all these videos of Pleos with animals and how the animals react. We should remember, dogs especially rely more on sense of smell than sight. I'm not sure, but I think the filename schould not be changed... I'm pretty sure he is looking for a particular name on the SD Card. (or maybe he just doesn't like spaces in the file name)????
And for the triggering. If you tap him once (doesn't matter which sensor) he will start doing what he is doing (I don't want to say what it is... :) ) if you tap him again he will stop. That's why it is not a good idea to pet him too much in this mode, he will constantly start and stop :D

Correct.
Do not change the filename. It must be called "PLEO.URF" and be at the root (top-most folder) of the SD card.
Otherwise it will be ignored, and the default builtin personality will run as usual.
